Add-On at Home Resort or Buy Elsewhere?

Not sure my question is phrased properly, but I'd like a little input.

We need more points. We currently have 200 pts. at our home resort, VWL, use year is Oct. After our trip last summer, we realized we can no longer travel with our kids and stay in a studio because -- well -- DH and I snore. Kept DD and her friend awake all week :p . So instead of a studio, we're 'stuck' with using a one-bedroom ;) .

In talking with our new guide yesterday, she indicated that the likelihood of an October resale becoming available prior to the price increase is slim to none. Her suggestion? 60 points (it's all we can afford, unfortunately, with our three boys in college) at BCV. Initially, I didn't think it would be worth leaving VWL to spend only two nites at BCV, but Susie pointed out that with banking/borrowing we could actually have four to six nites available at BCV (Well, duhhhh, why didn't I think of that?).

I'm just wondering if anyone else here has a similar combination of contracts, and if so, how it works for you. In theory, it sounds like it could work pretty well for us, but I'm hoping for a little confirmation of this........

The problem I see with buying into a different resort, is the 11 month window. If you need a 1br, you will need all the points to book it at 11 months out. If your points are split, you will have to wait for the 7 month window.

There are ways around this, as you could spend most of the nights at VWL, and a couple at BCV. You can also bank and borrow your way to make complete stays at each (although BCV would be tough with 60 points).

It really depends if you want to stay all nights at VWL, as well as if you are willing to book at the 7 month mark.

Good luck...

Why not add on at VWL? If you can't get your current use year, try for something close. We just added on 100 points there with our same use year with no problem. Good luck.

We have 250 at OKW & 50 at VB. When we visit WDW, we will stay for 3-4 days in an oceanview room at VB to relax afterwords. All ressies then can be made within a 11 month window. If we decide to go to another DVC resort (like HH), we have 300 points at the 7 month window. Of course your discussion on banking or borrowing is valid. I checked the resale store and there are a couple 50 pointers available at around $62-65 a point. Good Luck (note: we started at 200 points at OKW).

We recently added on at the BCV. We initially bought 250 pts (FEB use yr.) at the VWL but when I heard about the offer to NY'ers to get into the BCV at $70 a point, we had to do it! (We had to add on at least 100 pts to get this deal) We did get the same use year for both contracts, but I can't use the points until this FEB. So I have booked the VWL for a July trip so I'll at least have a place to stay, but hope to switch the ressie over to the BCV. I'm new to the DVC banking/borrowing so I'll have to see if it works out. Good Luck to you!

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think ADD-ONS must be of the same use year as the original contract.

Yes, unless you buy a resale or a new master contract of at least 150 points. I believe either way you will have a second member number, but not positive.
