With as much as it rains at Disney we try and come prepared, but have never found a good raincoat that works well for someone using a wheelchair. Does anyone have a favorite, or one that worked out really well.

PS. For an adult if it matters.

Yes we found one that has worked for my daughter who uses a wheelchair and she is 23. But she is small. 4 feet 10.It is a cape and covers her really well. We got it a few years ago on Walmart.com under wheelchair raincoat. I will see if I can find it.

I got one like that on Amazon, it works pretty well, my sons is black not pink. Sometimes it pops off his feet, I wish it was a tiny bit longer (he is 5'8") but it does solve the wheel tangle issue. (He is in a large Convaid chair not a WC, but same issues)

I got a regular poncho from IKEA, cut the bottom to the size I wanted, then hemmed it. I also made openings in the back for the push handles to come thru and added a piece over the opening so rain can’t come in. We can push her wheelchair or she has enough room to propel herself.
She’s got regular raincoats - One is from L. L. Bean. It’s totally waterproof and can pack into its own pocket. It get pretty hot.
I don’t remember where the other was from, but I think it is Adidas. It‘s more of a windbreaker - water repellent, but not totally waterproof. She does wear that for warmth under the poncho.
The raincoats are good, but the back of her wheelchair seat still gets wet and she still gets wet legs.

I‘ve seen an adaptive raincoat, but it’s pretty expensive. It is long in the front and short in the back. There is a removable flap in the back to keep rain from pooling on the wheelchair.

Someone with fairly good sewing skills could adapt a longer length raincoat by cutting off the bottom of the back and finishing all the seams.

That's what I did with a trenchcoat I picked up on-sale at Uniqlo. I don't generally get seat pooling because of how both the chair and I are shaped, so I didn't worry about it. I cut the sides a bit behind the sideseams, going from the bottom hem to about where beltloops would be, then cut the back a few inches below that. It works pretty well.

For my raincoat, I already had a hooded raincoat that I love for not making me too warm or feeling clammy, so I made an attachable rain skirt/lap blanket out of a second raincoat. I used most of the jacket to cover my lap, then sewed the sleeves together (flat) to cover the bottoms of my legs/tops of my feet. I used sew-in magnets on both parts of the coat so I can easily attach and detach the lower protective gear.

That is nice but not $395 nice!

The raincoat would be easy to duplicate with a panel of waterproof material and some Velcro. You could even make panels that velcro on to cover legs and feet.

I have a Frog Tog poncho that I haven't tried yet, but I'm hoping it will work.
