So we finally talked my MIL into going to Disney with us and we have her booked at Saratoga Springs in a 1 bedroom.

She will likely spend most of her time at the resort as she had one knee replaced and has some mobility issues. I think she will enjoy taking the boat to DTD and relaxing by the pool but is there anything else I can tell her to do?

Also, she will be watching our boys for one night in her room. Do they have a nightly movie and campfire? Where are they located? How late is the community hall open for crafts?

Thank you! I'm amazed how excited I am for her to go. Everyone doesn't understand when we tell them Disney is more than just the parks and I would really like to show her that.

We love Saratoga. One of our favorite activities is going to the community center and painting a christmas ornament. After you have finished painting they will fire it. Last year it took us about 3 hrs to complete. great afternoon activity

Thanks for the response. Do you know if most crafts at the community center cost money? Is there a place online where I can see the activities and movies for the month?

The marshmallow roasting and campfire is behind the community hall near the Ping pong table. I believe the community hall is open until 10 pm. You can borrow DVDs and board games from the community hall as well, to play back in the room.

The last time I was there they had a fun Bingo game by the pool. You could even bring the cards in the water. You can also get DVDs and board games in the community hall.

When you check in, they'll give you a flyer that shows all the special activities for the week. (You can get a preview of it on Kenny the Pirate's web site. http://www.kennythepirate.com/resor...des/saratoga-springs-resort-recreation-guide/)

There are daily pool parties at both the High Rock Spring Pool and the Paddock Pool. These range from games in the water, to arts & crafts, to trivia & bingo, to make your own ice cream. (Note, the ice cream involves shaking a bag for a really long time. LOL, don't get yourself into it unless you're ready for a workout!)

Every Wednesday, the Disney Florist conducts a floral arrangement class from 2:30 - 3:30. You get to keep the arrangement you made, which includes a souvenir base. Cost is $50 per person (10% off for DVC members). (I don't see this listed on the May activities guide on Kenny the Pirate's site. I hope they haven't discontinued this!)

As previously mentioned, nightly movies at the High Rock Springs Pool, and marshmallows in the courtyard between the pool and the DVC Sales Center.

Free boat rides to/from Downtown Disney. Plus, if you're interested in a guided tour of the lake, there's the new amphicars that leave from the Boathouse. $120 for up to three guests.

If your mother is adventurous, the Characters in Flight balloon is really fun! Adults: $18, Children $12. (DVC discount, $10 before 10am, or 20% off at other times.)

Spa treatments are available at the Senses Day Spa. Ask about DVC pricing.

There's also the stage at Downtown Disney, where visiting groups (mostly school band, chorus, and orchestra groups) perform from time to time. There's also a nightly DJ Dance Party on this stage every night at 7:00 and 10:00. At 2:00 every afternoon, there's a little "parade" of all the princesses who had a make-over in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Both of these can be enjoyed while having a little something from Ghiradelli's... mmmm!

The AMC theater is a great way to spend some time. We've made this a tradition when we're staying at SSR and have a late-afternoon flight home. The Fork & Screen theater (restaurant where you order from your seat in the movie theater) is wonderful!

Using Downtown Disney as a transfer location, you can also catch a boat to either Old Key West or Port Orleans. The trip to Port Orleans' French Quarter could be rewarded with some of their famous beignets! At Riverside, there's a nice horse-draw carriage tour of the resort. The carriage will hold 4 adults, or 2 adults + 3 children. $45 for 25 minutes. At Old Key West, there are fishing excursions (catch & release) that depart several times each morning. (Ok, that one may not be for your mother. ;) )
