Active AP's if bought at TTC?

I have been planning and planning and planning our December trip but I neve have found out this. If I buy our AP's at TTC are they activated then or do you still have to "activate" it at one of the parks?? Also how long is the whole process of buying an AP, activating etc.

We bought our APs in May at EPCOT. The pass is active when you buy it. When you use them the only thing you have to do is put your fingers in the machine at the park entrance.

It took about five to ten minutes to get the passes. There was nobody at the ticket booths at EPCOT, so the wait was not long. It just takes a little while to give them your information, (i.e., address, names, etc).
