Activating Reserevation

if i activate a reservation (Alamo), can i deactivate it and make a new reservation if i find a lower price

You should be able to cancel a reservation at any time and make a new one, assuming it’s not a pay in advance (don’t know about those). I do it all the time through Costco. I suggest making the new reservation first and then canceling the old one.

I do it until I'm happy (or somewhat happy) with my price. As the OP said be sure to book your new reservations first and get a confirmation. Then go in and cancel the old one.

Yes, this. The only (small) downside with the Costco/Alamo bookings is that you have to make a phone call to cancel rather than just doing it online. However, the phone system is completely automated, so you never have to talk to anyone or wait on hold. Just respond to the voice prompts and you can complete the cancellation process. I do this routinely as prices drop between initial booking and travel. I’m hoping that still happens for a July trip we have booked, since the rental car is about 2X what we have usually paid for a week-long rental in prior years/trips.

I‘ve been able to cancel a reservation online. After you login to your account and go into My Travel Account, click on the reservation you want. Near the top is a cancel button that will cancel the reservation. I’ve even been able to cancel a reservation that I checked in and did skip the counter (got a cheaper rate).

That works with reservations made directly with Alamo using my Insider account. But Costco/Alamo reservations that have been linked to my Insider account still require a phone call as I described.
