I've only had them a couple of times including the set I had put on 2 weeks ago. I really like how they look but mine are so thick. Do they always have to be thick or are there a different kind to get that are more like your natural nail?

No, they do not have to be thick. Obviously, they have to have some thickness in order to have strength, but they should look like they could actually be yours.

Next time, tell the manicurist you want them to be shaped more thin.

(Thick acrylic is a pet peeve of mine(as a manicurist), it's laziness applying too much and not filing the excess down when shaping)

No, not at all. My nail person makes mine look very natural. They are not too thick, not too rounded or square. I love them.

I'm not really happy with this set. I've had them on for almost 2 weeks and they look like they are starting to come loose towards the top of my nail. On top of that, they are really thick. I already filed them some because they were too square. Guess I need to try a new nail place.

Usually after 2 weeks it is time for a fill-in. There is no reason that they need to be think. She can make them thinner, or try a new place. Mine are thin, they look so natural.

My 16 year old just got a full set of acrylics put on. She had the tips done in glitter green (holiday). She said they used acrylic tips for the green part. I always thought they painted the tips. So...when she wants to change the color of the tips, does she have to have a full set put on again? I can't see how they can remove the tips only and replace them.

I am not up on the acrylic nail process.

Thanks,
Lynn

Not sure exactly what they used from your description. Acrylic is the stuff they apply with a brush that hardens (cures) into a hard surface. The tips are plastic and are glued to the nail (usually you apply acrylic over the tips after they are shaped the length you want them to be)

Either they used colored tips and then applied the clear acrylic over them or they used plain tips and used colored acrylic over just the tip part. (you should be able to tell by looking at the underneath of her nail tips)

If they did the former, they may be able to add some white acrylic cover the colored tip, but I am not sure how that would look underneath.

If they did the latter, all they would have to do is file down the colored acrylic with a special drill bit and then apply either a natural acrylic color or white for a french look.

Either way, she should not have to have the entire process repeated.

Hope that helps.

She would have to get a new set. I have had a magenta colored tips put on and loved them. My nail tech as the color started getting smaller we would just paint them and then I got a new set. It works the same way when you get white tips put on.

The underside of her nails are the same green glitter as the tops. I see now that her thumb is really thick! I would say at least an 1/8". My daughter wanted to go alone and have this done but I think I'll go with her next time. The corners (they are square) are sharp looking too.

THanks for you help!
Lynn
