I expected 2 large expenses that unexpectedly insurance covered. Now, other than by 5 or 6 pairs of glasses, what can I do????

I do have MS (but no immediate needs) and a child with special needs -- if that helps brainstorm what I can buy! Sigh......I am so scared to lose this money:headache::scared1:

Do you have any dental needs right now you could use it for?

if you have a child who is due for orthodontics any time in the next 18 months, they will work with you to spend that money. my friend's ortho put one band on her son and took the money, put it toward future work.

are there any over the counter meds that are still covered?

Drugstore.com has a section with FSA approved items that you can buy without a prescription (sunscreen, bandages, insoles, etc). You could stock up on a few of those items in addition to the suggestions already given.

I would buy prescription sunglasses with fancy designer frames (that's 500 bucks right there!) and some sunscreen! That is a start. Some of the really nice sunscreen can be anywhere from 10 bucks to 25 bucks.
You have until March or April to spend. If you need contact solution that is another expense that is usually 10-12 bucks a pop!

Get any checkups you need after the first of the year, etc. Refill all your prescription meds including your MS meds. You will be fine! We aren't even that sick at our house and I can blow through 1500 easy.

Aren't massages covered? I could go for $1,500 worth of massages.:)

Sure can.
We bought a treadmill one year with some money on our FSA. Just got our doc to fill out the form because my husband needed to exercise. Gym memberships can also be deducted but you can only deduct them after the month has passed - for instance, January's membership after that month has passed. But the doc can fill out the form and it can be good for 1 year at a time. It has to be for a condition - for hypertension, high cholesterol, something that makes it valid.

First of all, see how long you have to use it. Our plan gives us until the end of March and until mid-May to actually file it.

How about an adjustable bed or a lift recliner? Would theose qualify?

In the last couple of years I have used mine for vericose vein treatment, spider vein treatment, laser facial treatment for rosacea.

THANK YOU ALL!!!

I don't believe we have a grace period...been getting nasty emails this week about spending it before Dec. 31.

You gave me some great ideas....I love drugstore.com ideas! :cool1: I thought no OTCs were allowed.

If only I could get a sleep number bed, LOL!

You never know, your MS may open up a lot of doors for what you can get.

can you pre-pay any of your child care expenses ?

If I could pre-pay any of my kids care ( afterschool care, summer care) that's where my money would go :)

Breast pumps are covered. One year I had money left over, and bought one for a baby shower gift.

Or, you could return it and ask for store credit instead of putting it back on the card...

My husband also has MS. How about an MRI to check on disease progress? He has one of those every couple of years, and that always eats up a chunk of our FSA.
