Accessible Transportation in Orlando

I was told by the Disney rep that their buses from the airports to the resorts are not accessible because they don't have lifts. I cannot climb the stairs into the buses without lifts, so I'm looking for transport to Grand Floridian. Anyone know of a company I can call to reserve a van with a lift?

Also, anyone know about the accessible rooms at the GF? I was surprised that they only have one accessible room in the main building, so we're set up at one of the out buildings, which, in bad weather, isn't great for my scooter. But I prefer to stay at a resort on the monorail system because I find the Disney buses to be a hassle and quite unreliable, time-wise.

Thanks for any assistance. This is a great site.

I see a lot of abbreviations used on this site. I'm very confused by what some of them mean. Perhaps a sticky that explains the meaning of the abbreviations would help newbies like me. Like, what the heck is a GAC? Do I need one for my upcoming trip???? How do I get one?

OK, never mind my thread. I just saw Sue's wonderful sticky of FAQ's and got the information I needed about transportation.

But I haven't been able to find anything about the accessible rooms at GF. Still would like some help with that one.

Glad you found your way here Kitty9!. a GAC is a Guest assistance card, you can get it at any park guest relations, it allows for accomodations for guests with disabilities without having to explain your issues to every CM (cast member) at each ride. there is a sticky here explaining what sort of assistance you can be offered, but many find WDW is so accessible they really don't need it. I hope you get your transportation question answered.:goodvibes

Please talk to a different Disney rep because the Magic Express does have some buses with lifts and the need for a lift can be noted on your Magic Express reservations.

The thing about the main building at GF is that it is only three stories and it is all Concierge Level rooms and suites and so there are really very few total rooms in the main building.

About 2/3 of the buses that do transportation for WDW have lifts. And all of the lynx buses have lifts. You just ran into a misinformed CM.
