I’m very new to Access, and currently plugging away at a report I want to create. I’ve been very excited about what I’ve been able to accomplish, but I’m struggling with one thing.

The report runs off of a query, and the query prompts for some information (start date, end date, category). I know how to create a prompt in the criteria by using the brackets, but how do I get one of those prompts (specifically the category) to be a drop down list…. I want the user to be able to choose from a list rather than have to key the category in…. eliminates time and keying errors.

Can any of you Access experts help?

Thank you!!!!!!!!

You'd need to create a form with the selection criteria drop down list and then have the report run off of that form's criteria. Unfortunately, it's not something easily explained verbally -- it's easier to show someone how to do.

I believe there is a "class" you can run through on Microsoft.com. I will post the link if I have time, but I sent someone to take the pivot table within Access 2003 training and they did that one also.

By the way, they are free.

Ahhhh.... it's my technical friend Bob!!

You're not making a trip to Minnesota anytime soon, are you?? :confused3 :p

Okay - I'm back to this. My report runs off of a query..... the query uses an expression to request the "Budget Category". Currently I have to key that category into the request box....... can I add a drop down list to choose from rather than key it in everytime??

Create a small form. On the form, add two things:

1. a Combo Box with it's Control Source as the table that contains the Budget Categories that you want them to choose from and

2. a button, labeled something like "Run Report" which, when pressed, passes the selection in the combo box to the report as a parameter.
