I found the Video Now Jr. at Target awhile back for $30 something and picked it up for my 3 year old. It just plays Video Now Jr. dvd's though right? I has also picked up the Portable DVD players at Target when they were cheap as well for both of my girls and am considering taking the Video Now Jr. back as I guess it is a duplicate gift. Any advice?

Hi!
My DS is 4.5 now but got the Video now jr from my FIL at 3 - I was not in favor of the purchase (they tend to go a bit overboard!). But 18 months later it is still one of his favorite toys. They do only play VN jr or VN disks - which are about 1/2 inch smaller than conventional DVDs. But the titles they have are great and shows last about 30 minutes. You can also purchase any headphones and they will fit you don't need to get the VN brand. Since my DS is hard on headphones (why is it they all want to use them as wishbones?) I stock up on the cheapest pair at Walmart or Target. We also have a travel DVD player and I wouldn't trade one for the other. My DD is 8 and there are times on long car rides when they want to watch different things. VN jr is also great on planes - with the earphones in. I will warn you that it is a battery sucker! Maybe 5-6 hrs on one set. We finally bought the rechargable kind, but that doesn't help much on long trips. We also got him a leapster for his 4th b-day. There are only a few titles for their age but they are great - and he calls it his "gameboy" and plays it when his sister plays her real one.

Hope that helped! Good luck!
Now if anyone know what to get an 8 y/o girl who thinks she's 20 - let me know! :rotfl2:

I went with the DVD player. I knew we'd end up buying a lot of movies twice and didn't want to go that route.

If your son would be happy without an extensive library of video now movies, it may be a good choice, since it's more durable.

For a 3 year old I would stick with the Video Now Jr. They are very durable! Our was dropped countless times. The buttons are chunky for little fingers too.

for a toddler I'd definately go with the Video Now Jr. Ours has been dropped from here to eternity, had milked poured over it more times than I can count -- and is so bumped and bruised it is just a shadow of it's former self on the outside, it still plays videos just fine though. That thing has been a lifesaver during car trips and at older brother baseball game etc. Other kids are constantly trying to take it from him.

We have a Dora Video, a Blue's Clue Video, a Sesame STreet Video and a Clifford the Big Red Dog. He practically has them memorized, but still loves to watch them.

BTW, it plays just fine with the recharable type batteries.

I purchased two of them for my kids for Christmas my DD 2 and my DS 4 1/2 I am excited to give them to them. The only thing that stinks is how expensive the video now discs are, I haven't had much luck finding them on sale and Ebay is a rip off. Maybe after my kids have been bored with theirs they are getting for Christmas I will start a disers video now disc exchange where we could mail eachother the disks and trade off, any thoughts?

Just wanted to say that TRU online has Video Now software on sale right now. Some of the 3 pack discs were $12.74 which I didn't think was too bad. My 3 yo got one for his birthday at the end of October and loves it. He has used it in the car several time already.

You can get them on sale. But I'm amazed at how many times my DS will watch the same video. Thank goodness for headphones!

I looked at ebay too and I can't understand why people bid so high - the end up paying more than you would at a store when you figure in the shipping!

I think a disk exchange is a great idea! I'm in if we can get it started!

Walmart B&M sells them for $9.88 ( I think) everyday for the 3 packs.

Yeah I never got why people pay so much for them except they are pretty hard to find ( as in Target or Shopko no longer carry the Jr videos)

I've never seen them at Walmart for 9.88, I just bought a 3 pack for 16.77 there this week.
