About the Expedia "deal" on Family Suites for $97

I posted this in a different thread, but it's such a huge thread at this point that I'm sure a lot of people will miss it. So I'm going to start a new thread about it.

Some of you have been discussing a "deal" on Expedia in January-February where you can book All Star Family Suites for $97 per night. That's almost half of the regular price. I just want you to be forewarned that this "deal" may or may not work out for you.

Someone wrote me about this "deal" on Expedia about 3 weeks ago. I haven't posted it on MouseSavers.com because it is clearly an error in Expedia's programming, and Expedia has been iffy about honoring such errors in the past.

Preferred rooms should be $97 that time of year and Family Suites should be $184. When I checked it several weeks ago, I realized the prices were reversed on Expedia for February 1-12 (Preferred rooms are $184, suites are $97). For January 15 and 19-31 both room types were showing $97.

When Expedia offers discounts on Disney World hotels, they are always the same as a "general public" code for the same dates and rates. Disney hasn't released any general public discounts for 2009 yet. So I am confident this is a programming error.

I'm surprised Expedia still hasn't figured out this error. If you book it, hopefully they will honor the error rate for you, but don't count on it!

Hi Mary...When I first saw them discussing it, I thought the same thing. I went and was able to get my dates in August 2009 for the same price. I then decided to check Orbitz and Hotels.com because I don't like Expedias cancel policy. I booked the ASFSu from August 10-25 for $97 per night on Hotels.com. I can't believe it. I also thought it was a glitch of some sort but Hotels.com had it too.

Thanks for all your great information. Your site is amazing.

Expedia and Hotels.com are the same company. Book at your own risk!

I will also warn everyone that booking through Hotels.com does not guarantee you a room. I booked a great deal through them to Anaheim and of course prepaid. Got to the hotel room and the Desk clerk said they were booked solid and my name was NOT on their ressie list. Called customer service at hotels.com who spoke to the hotel and got nowhere and then spoke to Hotels.com who offered only to refund my money, not get me a different hotel room. I was in Anaheim without a hotel room on a VERY BUSY weekend.

We had a terrible experience with Expedia a couple years ago. We went to check in at POR and they had us checking in a day later. I had the papers from Expedia stating our check-in date but they had not given Disney the correct information. There was no way I could have know this since my papers I printed from Expedia showed the correct date. And, you can't call Disney to confirm because they don't get Expedia's info until a few days before check-in at the most.

Disney was wonderful in helping us the best they could. They said that they could not change our ressie since it was through Expedia but encouraged us to call them. After a not-so-nice conversation with an Expedia rep Disney was finally able to help us. I know it was an Expedia error because even on the phone they originally told me the incorrect date then were able to confirm we were indeed to check-in that day.

More than one CM told us that they cringe when someone approaches the counter with papers from Expedia. They said they have had problem after problem. I would just hate for anyone to start off their vacation in this way. I would say to listen to Mary and be very aware that things might not work out in the best way.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I had no idea there were problems with the sites. I guess you are just getting another party involved and it leaves more room for mistakes. I will decide tonight what to do. Hopefully something wonderful will come out, code wise, and I will be able to stay someplace other than a value.:goodvibes

I posted this on the other thread but thought I would put it here too

The All Star Music isn't coming up on Expedia any longer as being available at all. Maybe it is the dates I am looking at but I tried early February and different dates in August. Maybe they caught the problem and are fixing it
