? about reserv. rooms and getting a AP

We are planning our May 2005 trip and I am getting ready to make reservations to our resort. I paln to buy 1 Annual Pass in order to get discounts BUT Not sure how to go about doing it.,......
If I get the AP now will it expire a year from the day I buy it or from the 1st time it is used??
If I call and get rooms will I need it already and do I need a code for it??
If I go ahead and make reservations now with out it can I apply the AP later when I buy it??
As you can tell I am new at this and have read a little bit about AP but not sure how it all works..

If you purchase your AP online at disney.com or at your local DisneyStore, you will get a voucher and not the actual AP. The voucher has no expiration date and is valid until you activate it.

You do not need to have an active AP, or even an AP voucher, to make a reservation using an AP code. You will need to show an AP when you check in.

AP codes are release a couple of months in advance. The currently available AP codes are good for stays beginning as late as 8/28/04. Codes for May, 2005 will probably not be released until March, 2005. You can always reserve your room now at rack rate and have any applicable discount code applied to it when they are announced.

There are no guarantees that there will be AP rates when you want to go, or that there will be the type of room that you want or the resort that you want. Because of that, it's a good idea to wait on buying that AP until you know for sure that you'll have a discount on the room...unless you're really buying the AP because you want one full year of unlimited admissions to the 4 major WDW parks.

to piggyback the original questions:

do i need to have an active AP at check in, or just the voucher? it seems a hassle to get to your resort, go to a park or DTD to activate the AP, then head back to the resort to check in.

You do not need the actual AP to check in. As long as you have the voucher, you are fine. Only one person actually needs the pass in order to book the room. That person must also be staying in the room.
You can purchase the vouchers at any Disney Store. I actually was able to purchase mine over the phone while making PS. You take the vouchers to any ticket window at any park and exchange them for the actual APs. They are activated when you trade them in and expire one year from that date, not the date you purchased them.

I am planning on getting two rooms during my next visit - does anyone know if I can get an AP discount on both rooms, or only on one? I am going to get the AP anyway, because we are going in both October, 2005 and October, 2006 (I just figured out last night that if I adjust my weeks, we can use the AP twice - I wanted to go for my anniversary both times - but if I adjust I will save some $$$!).
