  • When should I try to book for that time frame? Now or wait?
  • Where is the best place to find codes?
  • Book directly with the company or through Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz?
Thanks!

You could book now and continue to watch prices. Most places I've dealt with have no charge for cancelling a reservation.

Book directly with the company if you want to use their codes and coupons. Lots of coupons/offers expire Dec 30 so might want to wait until early Jan to book.
However, most do not ask for your credit card number or payment (unless you are booking a special noted as "prepaid offer") so no reason not to book something now, then re-check in Jan. What size car are you looking for? :confused3

I just booked a minivan with Dollar yesterday for mid January (1/13 thru 1/20). I checked National, Budget, and Dollar.......National and Budget were both over $600 and Dollar was $396 (which I still consider VERY high) but, since it was the lowest for right now I took it with every intention of checking rates right up until we leave. In the past we've got a minivan for about $250 in January so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll be able to get that price again. I have an intermediate for mid October from National Emerald Aisle for $153 total.....I'm also continuing to check on that one, but, if it doesn't go down I can live with that price. I also agree with above poster about codes and coupons not being out for January yet.......probably in November sometime you'll see some codes.

I have January rentals booked, although I am booking two one ways to get to and from the port for our Disney Cruise. I booked through Budget. Have you checked www.mousesavers.com for discount codes?

I would go ahead and book something if you find a price you can live with, then continue to check back frequently to see if the price comes down. There is usually no penalty for cancelling and rebooking and most companies will not take cc info on the inital booking.

I just booked a full-size for 8 days for the end of January with Dollar for $235, taxes and surcharges included. No code available yet. All that was required was name and email address.

I checked Avis, Alamo, National, Hertz and Budget - the rates were all over the map - as high as $550 with Hertz.

Use mousesavers.com, book early, and keep checking back.

I have an Alamo minivan inJanuary for $172 for the week - no coupon, but I reserved last January. Take the best price you can find today, then keep watching for a lower rate.

We're leaving on Jan. 20th, and I haven't even checked any car rental rates . I usually have the best luck with my Entertainment book and Alamo. I've also been able to combine codes that I got on Mousesavers with the Ent. code. I'll probably wait until after my Sept. OBX vacation to get into my Disney planning.
