I clicked on an ad for NexTag that was advertising SanDisk SDHC 4g cards for $2.48. It brought up a link to Amazon but when I went there the card was $3.35 + $6.99 S & H. The discription said it was bulk (no reader) and the list price was $99.99. What is the deal with that? I know $6.99 shipping is a lot for 1 little card but $10.34 is still a good deal, right? But I'm confused about the list price and the bulk discription. I know they're not ususally $100. I already have a reader, don't need another. Any clue as to why the amazon price is $0.87 more?

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you have a newer/higher-end camera, you'd do better in general getting one of the name brand / fast cards. For instance, many of the latest cameras support UDMA cards, which is supported by SanDisk and Lexar's high-end offerings but not the lower-priced ones. On the other hand, if your camera doesn't support UDMA then that extra cost won't get you anything.

If you ever get "stalled" waiting for your camera to write its buffer out to the card, or if the "high speed continuous shutter" of your camera isn't so high-speed any more, it's probably a result of the speed of the card.

Google for Rob Galbraith for camera write speed tests with various cards.

OTOH, if you shoot single picks with delays between, and have plenty of time when downloading to your computer, then go for the cheaper cards. I'd prefer multiple low-capacity cheap cards over one huge-capacity cheap cards because when a card goes bad (and the cheap ones tend to go bad) it really can ruin a vacation.

Bulk packaged memory cards are often not covered by the SanDisk warranty (it usually applies to retail packaging only).

Watch the fine print...
