Well I finalized my trip plans. I'll be in Fort Wayne, IN, this October for my sorority's convention from the 16th-19th. I'd just like to hear about Fort Wayne, since I've never been. We'll be at the Mariott. What is it near? Are there any points of interest I might enjoy? I'm just curious.

If there are any local DISers, I'd love to try for a DIS meet...:D

Thanks...:D

I know Scarlett873 / Brandie used to live up there, you might give her a PM about it. :)

hmmmm...ft wayne, huh? i lived there for about 11 years!! the marriott is in a pretty good location. it's right off of I-69 and very close to shopping. they claim that glenbrook mall is the largest in the state (i don't believe it is, but i guess it could be) and that's just a couple miles down the road from your hotel. they do have a newer mall that opened up a few years ago. it was on the opposite side of town from where i lived so i never made it out there. but it's called jefferson pointe. i think it's an open air mall or something like that. that's on the southwest side of town...

geez...i guess i never realy got out and did much when i lived there! i can't think of anything!! the zoo there is pretty cool. i believe there's science central (i think) towards downtown. it's like a children's museum. beyond that, that's about all i can remember! how awful is that? lol

i'm still fairly familiar with the area, so feel free to ask me anything!

Olena, I live in Muncie, IN which is about an hour and 15 minutes south of Ft. Wayne, on I-69. I haven't been to Ft. Wayne that often, so can't really help you. It is the second largest city in Indiana(pop. about 200,000).

I can speak about the weather and it should be great during your visit. The leaves should be changing colors and the trees will be beautiful. Hope someone can help you.

I am going to school about 3 hours from Fort Wayne but am coming back home for a week of fall break starting october 18th :(

Glenbrook is the mall closest to the Marriott but I doubt its the states largest anymore. The "new" mall is Jefferson Pointe and is on the SW side of town and is open air so if the weather is bad it makes shopping there miserable. If you do check out Jefferson Pointe I'd recommend you dine at Biaggi's

The zoo is great but will close before you arrive. Science Central IF you have kids is fun but without kids I wouldnt bother. The "Fort" is no longer open but you can see it if you travel north on Spy Run from Downtown.

Just south of the Marriot is a nice restaurant The Factory . Any of the Hall's restaurants are good. As are any of the Casa restaurants with Casa Mare being closest to the Marriot (its located across the street from the Memorial Coliseum

For a little Halloween entertainment I recommend the Haunted Castle Its a great time and is sponsored by a Boy Scout Troop.

WOW! I never expected such great responses! Thank you all very much...:D

These are some really great ideas. I know the restaurant suggestions will come in handy. I'll know many locals, since many of my sorority sisters live there. I would also love a little get-together with some DISers, if possible.

My days will be busy with meetings and luncheons, but I will have free time on Thursday or Friday nights..:D
