Dh and I are cruising on the Sept 11 night. We used points to book. Dh's mom is 88 and we're wondering should we get insurance in case we need to cancel. Disney will cover us both for $115. Do you suggest them or someone else? How do they reimburse when we've booked with points? Is it X amount of dollars for each point used?

Thanks

I would definitely buy the travel insurance since you will be traveling during hurricane season. I would buy full travel insurance, though, not just for your points. Reimbursement for points lost has been at a rate of $5 per point unless that has changed.

Can you recommend where I should purchase the insurance from? Disney covers cancellation, interruption, baggage loss or delay. They may cover more but that's what I found out when I called and asked.

The company Disney deals with is very reputable. They will probably be the only ones that will cover the points part of your trip, so I would go ahead and buy the whole package from them since the add ons are cheaper that way. BTW, I have had a claims experience with the company on a cash cruise trip (combined with points stay at hotel). They were very fair and I made the case for compensation for two nights at BCV that we stayed on points and they gave me the requested amount for those two nights (I requested $100 compensation for each night based on the cost of alternative hotels we could have stayed at while delayed and ultimately cancelled due to a hurricane--I think they thought that was very fair and I did, too, under the specific circumstances).
