I can't seem to find definitive info about cash only reservations. I have seen many people post about adding a day here or there with a cash reservation, when they didn't have the points, or the room wasn't available on points, and I understand that mostly.

And, I understand that CRO sometimes will offer discounts that are bigger than our DVC discounts.

But, what's the booking window for those MS cash only reservations? What's the cancellation policies? Why would someone choose that route over the traditional use of DVC?

I may have to add a cash day or two on an upcoming trip, so any information anyone could add would be helpful.

Thanks,
W

As far as booking through MS, the only reasons that I can think of is that some people feel a allegiance to the DVC, they want to take the easy route and don't want to take the time to shop rates, or they want to have linked reservations and they don't want to change rooms.

We booked an extra night through the DRC instead of MS because the annual pass discount was better than the cash night with MS.

Cancellation is 5 days out. There is no booking window persay, you can book anytime you wish.

Here' the cancellation policy for cash reservations made through Member Services:

If you cancel 5 or more days before your check in date, there is no penalty, If you cancel 4 or fewer days before check in, you will be charged one night's room and tax as a penalty.

OP if you do this, I'd recommend calling MS with your DRC ressie #, and also telling DRC your MS ressie number...if both have reference to the other you may not have to physically move to another room (but you'll have to "checkin/checkout" )

We added a cash payment day to the beginning of our trip as we were able to get much cheaper flights by arriving late friday - around 9pm. We ended up booking the extra day through regular Disney reservations though because didn't feel it was worth either the extra points (37) to add the night at AK or pay the over $500 for the one night. So we booked 2 adjoining rooms for cash ($237.30 with tax) at All-Stars and will them have our luggage transferred over while we play for a whole extra day. Plus, we have never stayed at a value resort and I think the themes look really cute. My 3 yr old will probably LOVE the Toys characters in particular.

I don't really remember exactly what they said the cxl policy is (as I have 0 plans to cxl), but I thought 48 hrs without penalty - which in our case would be the 1st (and only) night.
