Abdominal surgery before the trip - anyone else?

I MAY have to get abdominal surgery 4-6 wks before our tentative departure date. I've had 2 c-sections & I know that I really didn't feel "perfect" for about 2 mos. 2 wks I was great but tenderness, etc .... 2mos.

So I've been trying to figure out surgery dates & DL trip schedules that can work together. Mostly I'm worried about the actual rides. The harnesses, the bumps, etc.

Anyone else do DL after a surgery? Did they wish they hadn't?

I had MAJOR abdominal surgery a couple of months before the trip and really wish I'd waited. Honestly I think it depends on what you're having done.

I'd be kinda hesitant to do it too soon. I to had a c-section. For weeks afterwards, anything pressing on my stomach was ouch. So I'm worried about the ride bars hitting your stomach and any jerky movements would also probably be uncomfortable. I'd say give yourself like 3 months between to be safe. I'd hate for you to go and it be a waste, or worst yet, have something bad happen to you and your tummy as it wasn't completely healed.

Just my thoughts, but you do what you and your dr. feel is best

My friend had that. She got an ECV and went anyway. She did fine. I mean it was ALLLL paid for and it was Christmas and she just could not NOT go. Not a first choice but she did ok in the end. Stayed off really really bumpy things.

When I had my c-section I remember walking was painful for a while. I don't think I'd be able to do all that walking.

depends on what your having done. we really can not say unless you can tell us more. But to me I would wait if its a big surgery, why take a risk? maybe do it after you come back?

Sounds like it depends what you are having done and what you plan on doing. I hope it all works out great for you and when you do go you have a great trip. I personally would wait if I could so I could enjoy it 100%. If it was already paid for I'd go and make the best of what I could.

I think everyone said what I was already thinking.... I have so much going on & trying to get everything crammed in w/ school schedules etc is tougher every year! The older they get....

I will say that each c-section got easier so I guess I was hoping I'd bounce back even quicker, LOL! One can hope!

I will say that each c-section got easier so I guess I was hoping I'd bounce back even quicker, LOL! One can hope!

I have had a c-section , a hurnia sergery and many Laperoscopies that are "outpatient" procedures. I can say that every surgery is very different and even if the doctor says you will be on your feet in a week, you may not really feel yourself for several weeks or even a few months. Some of my surgery was supposed to be the same, but had very different outcomes. I was ready to run right away on some, but others it took a good 3 months or so to recover.

My advice is to take care of you. DLR can be very fun but very physically draining. Some of the rides are very jolting, and could undo weeks of heeling. Also, just being in the parks and walking from morning thru night can be tough. It would be a shame to put $ on a trip that you will not feel well. JMO Really just a personal choice. Depends your pace and rides and how you feel.

It's ok. I am too.

The DL date AND the surgery date are still up in the air. It sort of depends on DH's job if that makes sense, I can't drive the kids to school after & he'll need to. If work is too busy...I'll have to wait a bit.

I did DL in January...I wanted to shoot for Nov so we could go on different rides. If surgery happened in Oct, maybe February would be a good compromise.

See? I'm confused too!!!

Totally with you on this. Just the difference in the 2 c-sections proved how different things could go. I just wondered if anyone had been there but common sense tells me exactly what you wrote!! Hey...you could get a job as a Conscience! Move over Jiminy!

I also thank you for your information! I was suppose to have my gallbladder removed. Three weeks ago while we were in Disneyland I had my first gallbladder attack. Everything has calmed down and I am eating basically no fat and have been fine, but I must have it out. They are trying to schedule it for May 20th, and our trip is the first of June.

We are suppose to go back to Disneyland in a three weeks and I was wondering if I should have the surgery before or after our trip? However,you have answered my question, thank you! I will wait tilll after our vacation! Thanks!

I went to WDW 5 days after my gallbladder surgery. I did just fine. I was a little slow the first 2 days, but by the end of the week I was outwalking my husband. Just avoid rides like Space Mountain.

My dh just had extensive back surgery in mid april and we are going mid July. We will rent an ecv but he won't be able to go on many rides due to the bumps and such, but he will still have a good time. As of now he is walking around in his brace not using a cane or anything. So he should be okay.

I think it all depends how much it hurts. But, just being in disney will be therapy.
