ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

I think we were both having the time of our lives. One more day of solo time, then we come together as a group, and there's guarantees that we have some FABULOUS adventures in store for you. Mary and I were talking the other day about how we're both looking forward to telling you about all the funny and fun stuff we did together.

I can't imagine touring WDW at by myself and at my own leisure! :lovestruc I love to be in groups, but I also love my own company sometimes.

That's why this was the best of both worlds! We got to do the things we wanted to at our leisure- I tried to do the things I knew maroo wouldn't want to- then came together to do all the things that are more fun in a group, like Hoop, 'Ohana, etc..

Wasn't there a point update not too long ago? How many letters have we had since then?

Doesn't matter now.... Mike came home with a new power cord, and I'm ready to roll! Tallying scores now...

Ummmm.... there's ONE person, who WOULD have a perfect score IF they get their guess in by tonight!!! I won't mention names, but pools and poo come to mind....

Today, I wanted to just let you enjoy some last photos of my AK SOLO Journey. I spent a beautiful last hour or so just wandering around at will, spending most of my time on the ToL Trail, lazily enjoying the last bit of time there. No agenda, no rush, no pressure.

The first thing I came across was the famous Sausage Tree- yes, that’s really its name. Creative, eh? Did you know the staff has to hand pollinate them? Ummm... ok, that's a different kind of job.

And then on to the more scenic shots- which there is no lack of opportunity to procure in AK!

LiesasWDWPix2010186.jpg

If you’ve never done the ToL Trail, really you will not be sorry for having spent the time. It provides some shady relief, more carved animals than one could possibly count, and even some nice relaxing background music to soothe the journey. I personally like the slug- he's so whimsical!

And here, I must admit I got a bit turned around on my way towards the exit. I wanted to spend a bit of time in the Oasis area for some more shots, but ended up somehow circling around. I ended up in yet another couple of the Discovery Island shops- you know those themed ones. Can you guess which one this is, and what its animal theme is??

LiesasWDWPix2010193.jpg

LiesasWDWPix2010194.jpg

NO? Ok, try this one from just nearby; a different shop, a different theme.

LiesasWDWPix2010197.jpg

Well, it really was time to go. I knew the camera was operating on borrowed time already, and I was risking the afternoon headache getting worse. So, taking a few random shots of the smaller creatures on the way out:

And eventually reaching the place where all the adventures began in the morning,

LiesasWDWPix2010201.jpg

I traded my safari jeep for a Disney bus, and headed back to POP to re-charge- both camera and self. Would the scenery be just as lovely and inviting here?

Guess not.

Lovely pictures Liesa :thumbsup2.

The sausage tree?? Obviously a tremendous amount of creative thought went into the naming of that!

I am determined to explore the Tree of Life area next trip. Would you believe that after our first trip to AK, I didn't even know you could get that close let alone that there were trails to explore? Actually, I didn't even know there was an AK till our first trip in 2008!

I'm such a geek but I love Disney gift shops because of their incredible theming. I love them! Thank goodness I have a DH with tons of patience since I drag him into pretty much every single one!

I hope the afternoon headache didn't make an appearance.

Ewww! Ok, what is that jumbled mess of clothes at the resort?? Is it a used diaper too?? I swear, some people empty out their brains the moment they cross into Disney and things they'd never do elsewhere, they do there.

Aw shucks, thanks!! I love that one of the mountain in the backgroud. IN fact, I like it so much, I"m now going to replace my wallpapaper on the laptop! Done.

I don't know the scientific Latin name... Ficus sausagus?

:lmao: REally??! I didn't know anything about DHS (MGM) on our last family trip. We went, and thought it was so-so; obviously that has changed. ;)

I hardly ever go into one except to check out the specific theming I'd read about. Shopping is so not my thing, but I do love the props and stuff in them.

I hope the afternoon headache didn't make an appearance.

It did, but it was MUCH less severe than the other days. :confused3 Still don't know why it wasn't as bad.

Ewww! Ok, what is that jumbled mess of clothes at the resort?? Is it a used diaper too?? I swear, some people empty out their brains the moment they cross into Disney and things they'd never do elsewhere, they do there.

I think they brought a wet kid up from the pool, and just stripped him/her right there. Ummm... that shower/bathroom would be just the place one might need to do that... :rolleyes1 Yes, it was a used diaper. And it sat there for a very long time. Just how long... I"ll save for later.

Great pictures.....I like the one with everest in the background...but my favorite is the next one with the one bird just hanging out by himself relaxing by the water. My least favorite?.....well that would be the used diaper in the walkway :sad2:

Love the time you spent and photos you took exploring AK! We tried to do that on our most recent trip as well!

I hope to go back and read everything I missed but decided to jump in feet first and start posting!

Ok that last picture (which I will NOT re-post) was disgusting! It makes you think was whom ever was wearing that in the pool recently? Eww....... yuck! And now I don't want to swim! :scared:

Liesa your pictures are gorgeous! You have convinced me to take my time at AK. I feel like there's so many things I miss by just rushing through to rides and shows. Where is that dragon head located??

Looks like someone fell apart outside their room at POP

I really like that one too! Really, that picture takes me away to another world altogether! :cloud9:

Yeah, I have a bit of waxing to do on the whole POP experience. I am going to dedicate a whole post to my thoughts on each resort as I check out- which chronologically would be the next morning of this trip.

Somebody has taken "the Liesa greeting" to the next level!

Overall, it looked like a nice afternoon, just taking in the sights.

I could have asked just who did the interviewing for that job, but refrained myself in the post. :rolleyes1

HA, pants and all. :lmao:

AS I LIVE AND BREATHE!!!! Jen!!!! I am elated you're back and hope you can stick around this time! When I become overwhelmed at being behind, I always just jump in where the thread is. NO apologies, it's just the way it gets sometimes.

Aw shucks, thanks!! I love that one of the mountain in the backgroud. IN fact, I like it so much, I"m now going to replace my wallpapaper on the laptop! Done.

That one is my fav too, it's gorgeous!:thumbsup2 Without any surroundings visible or people for that matter, you could really imagine it somewhere in Nepal, right?

I don't know the scientific Latin name... Ficus sausagus?

I clearly have way too much time on my hands right now so I googled it. The sausage tree is known as the "kigelia africana".

:lmao: REally??! I didn't know anything about DHS (MGM) on our last family trip. We went, and thought it was so-so; obviously that has changed. ;)

Well now I feel much better about my lack of AK knowledge!

It did, but it was MUCH less severe than the other days. :confused3 Still don't know why it wasn't as bad.

Do you tend to get headaches in high humidity? If so, it might be more sinus related.

That's what it looks like to me too. Which is really icky. It's like those parents I've seen change their poopy child's diaper on the bench. You know the bench that people sit on and eat on and ewwww!

Pleaaaaaase tell me that diaper didn't hang around for more than a day!:scared1:

It was disgusting! WHAT is wrong with people that they can't throw their own trash away IN A TRASH CAN that sits probably less than 5 feet away right inside the door???!! I swear trash was one of the things that really brought me down in Crapistan, and that' s what I came back to.

It's a very good park to just slow down in. The shows are WONDERFUL on every level, but the atmosphere of it is just a great.

That dragon is on the entrance sign for the park just at the ticket window area. The park was originally to have a whole "Land" dedicated to the mythical animals (dragons, unicorns, Rocking Horse Flies, etc....) but never came to pass for lack of money. Many are still hoping that someday it will be a cool addition to the park.

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: I have some friends that live in Kathmandu, and they say they have views very much like this.

I clearly have way too much time on my hands right now so I googled it. The sausage tree is known as the "kigelia africana".

WOW!! That's a cool name... not as cool as Ficus suasagus, but cool nonetheless. :lmao:

Well now I feel much better about my lack of AK knowledge!

The more I know, the more I realize I know hardly anything.

Do you tend to get headaches in high humidity? If so, it might be more sinus related.

Maybe. But it was just as humid this day, as the last 2 when the headaches were worse. I think it was due to a whole bunch of things, and some kinda random. ONe being that I hadn't had a drink on this day... :rolleyes1

That's what it looks like to me too. Which is really icky. It's like those parents I've seen change their poopy child's diaper on the bench. You know the bench that people sit on and eat on and ewwww!

:scared1: Blech!

Pleaaaaaase tell me that diaper didn't hang around for more than a day!:scared1:

I can neither confirm nor deny that. ;)

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Ya...the dirty diaper out there is just plain NASTY! Perhaps they had an "emergency" of sorts, but for pete's sake-get out there and pick it up! :sad2:

Aside from that, a very lovely afternoon at AK! I'm looking forward to exploring the TOL trails again myself.

hmmm sounds like a job at disney that i want.
:sad2: i bet they give it to the college program kids.
