ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Thank goodness you finally came out with this!!
whew.gif
It was hard knowing this all to myself. ;) I'm so glad you now have the support of all of our good Dis brothers and sisters. :goodvibes It helps to have an army of people looking out for you and praying for you. :lovestruc

There's not much I can say to this that I haven't already said to you. You and your family are so near and dear to my heart, and as I told Bekka, I would be thrilled to have her as my DIL!! She's a beautiful, smart, well educated woman who would make any young man a wonderful wife, everything else his mother is thinking/feeling is more about her and her down falls, not her son's or your family. I pray one day she will be shown how she's acting (by the H.S.) and she will come to grips with how she's treated everyone. In the mean time...be blessed and enjoy this beautiful time with your girl and your family. :goodvibes

Sounds like the kind of guy who has a plan for his life and a good head on his shoulders. They don't make them on trees. And as far as the MIL goes, I don't see where they've done anything that requires a binding contract for eternity yet. She can chill...have a Dole Whip!

But don't be too harsh. If she's raised a son who sounds this well-adjusted, she must have done something right.

:thumbsup2 You should send her one.

Believe it or not, by 10:00 I was back at MK and MADE ROPE DROP- and that included taking a bus from POR there! Amazing!

DSCN0166.jpg

That last one reminded me that I had not had my daily allotment of alcoholic beverages, and that I was really looking forward to tonight’s. But, you’ll have to wait to see what we imbibed on for about 4 months at the rate I’m getting this report done.

I would have needed a drink too if I had been felt up by the Mayor!!

DSCN0194.jpg

:rotfl: You look so cute on your tippy toes.

POR looks so pretty and it sure looks like y'all (sorry, can't help myself) had a great morning.

 It rubs off after a while. Just ask Liesa.

I wonder if all mayors could get away with that. I know at least one president who did. :rolleyes1:eek:

Oooooh, you went there, didn't you?

Nice one! Y'all works for everything, don't it? ;)

I happen to think so! It gets better when you include....All y'all! Then you know you've really gone to the south side. :rotfl:

::yes:: Yes, Please! Love POR. Feels like our home away from home. And I don't think it's so bad with a family of 5...compared to the other options, the price makes it worth the squeeze!

Be warned, all ye resort pool-hoppers and last year's re-usable mug re-users. pirate:

:rotfl:

I felt that way about CSR. Totally worth the squeeze!!

Liesa what wonderful news for your daughter and future sil!!His mother is the loser in this as she will most likely miss out on a wonderful relationship that her son and your daughter have !!It is her loss !!

That's right! You tell'em Rosie! :thumbsup2

Just a little update on life...

This week is mid-terms for us, and I've spent all weekend not only cramming, but also trying to be a gracious hostess to my parents who have been in Oregon since last Wednesday. I wish I could have been more devoted to their care, but hey, life is rather full right now. They leave tomorrow, and I'll be driving them up to the airport in Portland in the morning. Their visits are never quite long enough.

I just found out that for World History I can have an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of handwritten notes to use for a multiple choice/ T/F exam on Wednesday. Seriously how could I NOT get an A in this class?? I am hoping that after this week, I can get some writing done and updates posted! :confused3 We shall see....

It's great to have you all stop by once in a while. :goodvibes

Liesa, I'm glad you had a good visit with your parents! Prayers and PD for your tests!

I would have needed a drink too if I had been felt up by the Mayor!!

:rotfl2: I was thinking along the same lines, "That Mayor is awfully cozy to Liesa!"

Liesa, so glad to hear of the wonderful news for Bek!!! And what a man, a REAL man she's got there. So excited for you, her and him. I hope the future MIL comes around and realizes this is not something in her control, but it's God doing his thing! His GOOD thing! I'll be praying.

And great update---POR looks so beautiful, and how fun to catch a bride! I love seeing the horse trolley with the fall leaves on top. :lovestruc

Well, I can see I'm a page behind in responses again....

But one midterm is down today, and there's one left! Hooray!! Hopefully, I can spend tomorrow giving some much needed TLC to this report and others!

Sorry I fell behind again Liesa (between updating my own TR, trying to catch up on all of the threads, work kicking my butt...yours is one of the last ones I've gotten to).

Congrats to your daughter and your future sil. I'm sorry his parents are being such jerks (yes, that is what they are being), but hopefully they wake up soon and realize what a special son they have and what a beautiful daughter-in-law they will have.

Love your last update. POR is really pretty (if CSR were not available, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there; but then after our last two resorts, I may be spoiled and not go back to CSR either).

Looks like you gals had a blast at the MK that morning.

I understand, Kathy; no worries at all :)

I hope so too! The good thing is that they have plenty of time to come around, as this is going to be a rather long wait for them.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at POR again for sure! It was really nice there; the pool was great, the entertainment perfect, the room well done, all of it! :thumbsup2

But yeah, I can see myself trying other ones before going back too. Especially AKL!

::yes:: Yes, Please! Love POR. Feels like our home away from home. And I don't think it's so bad with a family of 5...compared to the other options, the price makes it worth the squeeze!

Agreed! It has a reasonable price tag, and if you're not going to make a resort-centric vacay, this is the one!

Disney CM's = wonderful vacation enablers. :thumbsup2

yes, yes they do!

Impressive. :darth:

Hahaha, why thank you!

You've got some great shots here! :goodvibes

I was certainly having a lot of fun with the POC! :thumbsup2

Be warned, all ye resort pool-hoppers and last year's re-usable mug re-users. pirate:

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Why yes, yes it does! One of my best friends from college was from Nashville and she said it all the time and I adopted it (as young friends are wont to do) and I had people thinking I was from the South. :lmao:

Y'all are too funny! :rotfl2:

Oh Liesa! What spectacular news! I too am blown away by the wonderful intentions and integrity of this young man. Wow. In this day and age, most young men's intentions aren't quite so pure. I'm very happy for your daughter and you! What a shame that the future MIL is putting a damper on it. Does she only have boys? My own MIL took awhile to soften up towards me because she was not ready to give up her son. We're great friends now but it started off a bit rocky on her end. I distinctly remember showing her my wedding dress in my college dorm room and she sat on my bed and cried (not tears of joy, if you get my meaning!). I'm sure this stick in the mud will come around! It's terribly unfair of her to have judged you so harshly in the beginning though and now to transfer that over to your DD and her man. Hang in there, keep praying.:goodvibes

Thanks for your excitement for us! We're pretty thrilled with him too. :cloud9:

I think things have calmed down to a status quo in his household, and whereas they are so onboard with his decision, they are not forbidding it either. They still have a LOT of kinks to work out in how its going to "look" in our group of friends, but I think it's all going to be fine in the end.

Right now, Bek has told me that even if they did invite her to dinner or something, she would not accept until they come to us and begin a reconciliation process with an apology. It's that important to her and to them for a relationship on SOME level to be there for all of us. That's pretty mature in my book.

Congratulations to everyone on this joyus news!!! I know from personal experience that sometimes kids need to be seperated from their parent's opinions so we can learn to move forward as our own person and to grow into adulthood. I went 3 years without talking to my own mom due to the fact that she didn't approve of my decisions after high school. Hopefully things will work out in the end and everyone can celebrate this special time and be there to support them while they get things in order.

I"m sure they are going to be fine after the initial shock to his parents. They are very stuck on a certain "formula" for how "proper" relationships should go, and it's either "my way or the highway" for them. They're both pretty mature, so I have no doubt they can work through it all together :)

Ok, I'm caught up again!
I love seeing the differences between WDW and DLR. It makes want to schedule a trip to DLR.
Congrats to Becca and her young man. I hope the MIL situation works out. The first time I met my future MIL she wouldn't even look at me. When she left she told DH she loved him gave him a kiss and left :confused3. Afterwards DH said he was thinking, "How was that and where is my mom?" We get along great now, turns out she was just worried about DH and getting to know me incase it didn't work between DH and myself.

WOW, that must've been pretty shocking when it happened; you must have thought to yourself, "Do I really want this woman in my life?" Glad things have gotten better and she's fine.

You're so right, Rosie! And that means I get more holidays!:santa:

Thanks for all your counsel can words of encouragement! She AND he have great heads on their shoulders, so I don't really have much to worry about. In the end, it will work out.

That's one resort I definitely want to try out sometime! :thumbsup2

Liesa, I'm glad you had a good visit with your parents! Prayers and PD for your tests!

Thanks, Tammie!! I think I did very well, but will have to wait till Monday for the results. Mom and Dad came and left, and I sure wish I could have spent a whole lot more time with them! Ah well.... hoping we get out to Kentucky next summer!

:rotfl2: I was thinking along the same lines, "That Mayor is awfully cozy to Liesa!"

He was attracted to the red hair, I"m sure. And I can attest that there were no Liesa Greetings involved! :lmao:

Thanks for your prayers, Brook! He is quite a special guy and we sure like hi a lot. God's handprint is definitely all over it, and we couldn't be happier for them!

The fall decorations were really cool! They made for some very nice pix! :thumbsup2

Good luck on the midterms!

Thanks, Jill!! I think I did just fine! :woohoo:

Caught up here....for now!

I'm glad to here things are at least settling down for Bek and her man. Hopefully over time the two of them can teach his mother how mature, responsible adults (such as themselves) behave. :rolleyes1

We last left off with a frustrating half hour of re-connecting. Starting a morning off with a hefty dose of panic is never fun, but with a full day of Disney fun ahead, it was sure to get better… much better. We finished up watching the band round out their delicious set of ragtime (along with those delicious pastries and bottomless coffees!), and it was time to head off to live out some Fantasies of our own. But we all know that before Fantasyland comes Main Street, and Carol told us she’d been wanting to hit up Great Moments with Abraham Lincoln for a while, so that’s where we journeyed first.

I wasn’t sure how many “great moments” this would provide us with, as I remember being pretty bored with that particular attraction as a kid. But we all have to grow up sometime; with maturity comes the ability to appreciate that which doesn’t necessarily provide sensory overload and laser guns, but rather experiences that make one think and reflect. GMwAL is certainly one of those attractions which can stir up a variety of deep emotions- all of which I felt; patriotism, sadness, joy, and appreciation of just how well this show is done. No wonder it’s had a long run of almost 50 years!

After the show, we spent some time in the current exhibit being displayed in the Art of Disney area: a HUGE exhibition of Mary Blair’s works! There were walls and wall of her concept art. I had no idea she was such a prolific artist who supplied Disney with such great talent. I just love her bright, happy colors and angular style of smiling children.

Disney2011378-1.jpg

Now on to Fantasyland?? Nope, not yet… one more detour. The group of 60-somethings wanted to next check out “the submarine ride”. Ok. It was definitely one my personal favorites growing up, but did it have a way for my aunt to do it? I had visions of us waiting in the 30 minute queue only to find that we could not hoist her chair down the hatch. So we sauntered up to the exit, as per usual, to inquire about our possibilities. And because Disney bends over backwards to help make the parks an amazing experience for EVERYONE, they offered an “alternative” attraction, which we immediately decided to enjoy. Instead of actually going in one of the subs, the entire party is escorted to a room where a video of an actual voyage was filmed and played for you. The audio track is piped in, there are no stairs, no claustrophobia, no other guests to be worried about. Basically, it was a private viewing, just not underwater, and quite possibly WAY more comfortable. We really liked it a lot! Two thumbs up for the handicapped version of “the sub ride”.

DIVE, DIVE!!!

Now can we get on with gettin’ to Fantasyland?? Yes, I’m certain we can, but you’ll have to join me next time for those Fantastical Adventures- for the Great Moments of this voyage are over.

:cool1: Glad you have enough time to post an update. Hope all is going well and midterms are over.
DL just may be in the cards for me next year. My annual conference is in Las Vegas and well it is a short hop to DL.

Looks like your time with Abe, Mary and the submarines were well spent.

Caught up here....for now!

Glad you could pop in, Tanya!

Yeah, things have reached a tense status quo for them; and I do think time will be the least of what is needed to make things better. And that they have lots of, so I"m not as terribly worried as I was way 3 weeks ago.

As I've come to find out, this is a destructive pattern in her character, and all we can do is wait for her to come around. :sigh:

Great update! My last trip to DL was in March before the 50th anniversary started in 2005. Great Moments was closed and the submarine ride (my favorite as a child!) wasn't there yet. I feel the need to plan another trip back to DL!

Haha, Jill! Then it's served its purpose of making you want to go back!! If you missed those 2 attractions alone, then another trip is definitely needed!

HEY!!! I just put up an update!! And I just posted on YOUR thread! :lmao:

Wecome back!

Great update, Liesa. How cool that they had that submarine watching for you guys. I've heard wonderful things about Great Moments with Abraham Lincoln.

Thanks, Kathy! Both attractions were GREAT, and I'm so glad I got to see them, since it'd been like 15 years since my last trip to DLR- and likely the last for quite a while. :goodvibes
