ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Great update Liessa !!!Those Micket Beignets looked great!!!

Didn't they??!!

Awwwww... it's just so sweet reading about your Mom and Aunt's trips down memory lane at Disneyland. It's sounded like they've had some really great times there together. This love they have for Disney is very special I can tell and so sweet, love it! (:

It is something rare to know people who've been going since just a few months after it opened. One of them may have even been at opening day (I'll have to go back and ask them). They truly love that place, and it really shows when they visit!

Ooooo... Dinosaurs on the railroad! That's wicked cool. I totally want to come to DLR now since I'm pretty sure WDW doesn't have something like that on the Disney World Railroad.

it is cool! It also goes past a pretty detailed Indian camp too, but I didn't take any pictures of that. You'd love the train ride at DLR!

Ooooo... beignets! They look SOOO GOOD! I really need to try them one of these days :D

They were sooooo yummy!!! They fry them right there in front of you, so they were fresh and hot! Mmmmm.... guuuuuuuud!

Yeah, Aurora's castle is definitely smaller, but it looks more vibrant and you also can walk through it at any time. And there is A TOUR! Yeah, I've done my research hahaha Cindy's Castle though is still just so grand and awe-inspiring to me, though I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty Castle in person yet :/

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Definitely some differences in style there. And you're right, there is a walking (self-guided) tour through it. It's really cool, although we didn't do it this time. I loved it as a kid, as did my own kids.

Wonderful update. It AMAZES me how much I actually recognize from DL since I haven't been since I was about 5. I guess we really did spend a lot of time there.

How heart warming your mom and Cherrie giggling like school girls. That in its self must have made your trip.

That IS amazing that you remember so much!! I don't remember squat from being 5 other than the names of a few kids in my Kindergarten class.

You're right! The trip for me was all made worth it by seeing THEM enjoying themselves. I did go on a few attractions by myself, 3 or so, I think, but we stuck to what they wanted to do (and could do) and it truly brought me a deep-seated joy!

Just wanted to share !!I got a very nice letter from Jordan today !!He is living and working in Kentucky and doing well !!

THANKS! for sharing Rosie! I see him on FB once in a while, and he sounds like he's doing really well and enjoying life. I'm glad he's found a place to call home and is on the right track!!!

California Grill sounds like a perfect meal. The cheese plate looks so good. I've never seen Wishes from California Grill, but I can see how it might be a less magical experience than on Main Street. I can't help you out with pushing a nine year old in front of you, but if you're ever at California Grill again, and we're there, I can definitely arrange for a toddler to pull your hair and kick you repeatedly during Wishes. Just let me know.

Disneyland looks so awesome! Except for the castle. Aurora should definitely complain about that one. Those Mickey head beignets look like fun. I wonder why POFQ doesn't have Mickey beignets.

Ok, I'll let you know on that one, Kate! :lmao: It was such a delightful meal. We really lost ourselves in that 2 hours we were there!

I think she needs to hire a new real estate agent who can hook her up with the castle market.

and you know what?? I wondered the same thing! How could they not offer MH-shaped beignets?? Hmmm??? :confused3

Hey Liesa! Seems like you are busy like the rest of us this summer. ::yes:: No worries... I was only 25(ish) pages behind this time. :sad2:

Love all your pics from DL. Having never been there it is interesting to see the differences between there and WDW.

Looks like you got a lot accomplished in Epcot. Sorry you got soaked. :scared1: 5 drinks in 5 days... I wonder if this trend will keep up.... :rolleyes1

Your CG meal looks scrumptious! What is better than a great meal with great friends and grrrrrreat laughs? (no Tony the Tiger)

Caught up once again... I'm going to try not to be 25+ pages behind again.

yeah, it's been an intense summer full of GREAT stuff: camping, dancing, Fair stuff, canning, parties, you name it! I've sort of checked out here for a spell, but am almost ready to pick it back up (AND all of your threads!!!) when the fall routine gets going.

There are quite a few differences that are worth sharing about. More comign up!!

YUM! Now I'm hungry for Frosted Flakes!

It's been moving way slower.... I wouldn't worry about getting hopelessly behind. ;)

I am just marking my spot and yes I know what that sounds like:rotfl2:Have an easy night tonite !!Taking 3 of them to the Chinese Buffet YUMMY!!!

HAHAHAHA! Yeah, that did sound funny!

Tough life, Rosie! Eating at a Chinese buffet for work.... ;) Enjoy your night out!

I am ignorant on multiple quotes but thank you all. I'm sure the thoughts and prayers will mean the world to them. Alper's syndrome is a genetic, mitochondrial disease. The doctors were able to identify the defective gene and my cousin and her husband will be able to have healthy children in the future. Austin's heart was able to be donated to another child in need so there is some good coming out of his passing.

Jill in CO

I read on Caring Bridge - what as precious little man, and such a touch journey for him and his parents. I'm sure they are comforted that he can help another child live.

Liesa, this was such a fun update! I love that train - I love to hear the "conductor" do the announcing. I've never seen those clothes on the line. How precious for you to be a part of such fun reminiscing with your Aunt and mom! I can just picture them back in the day, sportin those glasses and checking out the boys!:rotfl2: I am not big on donuts lately, but those beignets are making be hungry!!! I was looking up how to spell that fancy schmancy word, and I found you can buy the Cafe Du Mond Mix!

Oh, my favorite scene in PP is the rooftops of London, too! It just sticks in my mind because I was so amazed at the detail the first time I saw it - I don't even remember the mermaids!

Wow - what a week I missed! Drama and two updates!

First, I am sorry I wasn't there to send prayers and pixie dust for the difficult family and friend situations. Hope belated hugs are okay!

What great updates!

I've always wanted to try CG but just couldn't justify the price/2 credits. Going for just apps and dessert sounds like a great idea though! It looks like you guys had a great time! It is good to know that Wishes is not all it is cracked up to be from there. I find the Contemporary really hard to navigate but that could be because I am directionally challenged.

I just loved this DL trip update. I could really see and feel the joy they had reminiscing on that train ride. What a treasure of a memory to have for the future! Mickey head beignets!

Love hearing how much fun your mom and aunt were having. It's sooo neat to hear our elders talk about things they did as teenagers/young adults and how cool they thought they were. :) All I have to say about the train is it's my DH and DS(4) favorite ride!!! They both love trains and it's such an addiction we even have a membership to the train museum in Sacramento!! :lmao: I also need to share that I'm going back to Disneyland August 30 - Sept 4 and I'm pretty excited because my mom is joining us!!! My DS talked to her on the phone last night and was just sooo happy telling her everything he was going to take her on. Can't wait to make some more magical memories with my family!!

I really enjoyed your last update. Beautiful pictures of the scenery and the three of you! What a lovely time!

Tough life, Rosie! Eating at a Chinese buffet for work.... ;) Enjoy your night out!

Oh yes a tough night !!! Had to help them make healthy choices;) while piling my plate :lmao:It was fun, they all enjoyed it and the ride after . We drove down River Road and just enjoyed the peaceful river and all the boats !!It was a LONG day I workred from 6 a.m til 11:30 pm !!!:scared1:But those extra hours will make up for some while I am gone and I will get a decent paycheck waiting when I come back !!:banana:This last month my part time job has turned into more like full time !! Dan is sooooo appreciative of the extra hours I am putting in !!:banana:

All caught up finally...

What a great day in DL. Reliving memories just makes you giddy at what was "cool" and the things that you did that you now find soooo silly. :goodvibes

Maybe a Cheese Nip!:goodvibes
Oh, I LOVE those!!! :goodvibes

Great update Liesa! Love all the trips down memory lane. When I was at my parents house the last time I was looking through some old pictures and found a few of my Mom wearing her cat-eye glasses. :)

A mint julep! Without the bourbon! Really??? :sad2:

So many comments about the picture with you and the cherry, but I'm definitely passing on that one........ :rolleyes1

And talk about disappointed. I saw the title to this update and I just knew there would be a picture of you in that clamshell bra, adding some spice to your Liesa greeting!!! :lmao: Did love the advice for daughters though, including the additional one Mark added for us. Thankfully I didn't have to worry about that side of it......well, except the drugs part.

I actually thought you were kidding about the mint julep being non-alcoholic and that is what the picture looked like after drinking it WITH the bourbon!!! :rotfl2:

I'm a long time lurker here. I''ve been here through all 250 pages of the first part of this TR, and all of this one. Although I don't post much I just had to let you know how much I love it! Your writing style is wonderful, I love your sense of humor and your obvious love of your family and friends just shine through in your writing. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I've enjoyed every bit of it and can't wait for it to continue!

Terri

Liesa, I just now read the last couple updates and Camille's post about the trouble you've been having - I am so sorry! I had no idea you were going through all that. I hope by now things are looking brighter, but I'm praying for you nonetheless. Remember, you have my number if you ever want to talk!

On a lighter note - the last two updates were just great! What a fun evening you gals had at California Grill! But I do agree, there is no place to watch Wishes like Main Street. For me, anyway!

I'm so glad you were able to figure out the wheelchair transfer process at DLR so Aunt Cherrie could experience all the old favorites! I love the stories about her and your mom in the old days. I can just picture them living it up in their ponytails and cat eye glasses! :goodvibes

I am loving the mickey beignets!!

But a boozeless julep is just...wrong.

FUN update! I was cheered just reading it.

Now Liessa I just might try a non alcoholic julep!!!I have just 2 more days of work before we leave !Can't believe it is finally here !!!

I spent last night writing the next chapter for my blog for those who are interested. Today after spending most of it out doing back to school shopping, I hope to get on here and catch up on replies :)

See you all soon!

Liesa

Just read all 6 chapters...amazing story Liesa. I don't think I could have done it. You have no doubt stored up treasures where moth and rust do not destroy.
