ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

 Liesa! I'm so sorry I've not been around lately, but I read every email update. ;) Had to come say hello today because I especially loved this update and photos. You've posted some of my faves from Disneyland. PP has been my favorite attraction since my first visit in 1958, but it was very different then - a boat ride! Guests went through Wendy's window, out to Neverland and back home through the window. Loved it then, love it now.

Oh, but that train ride - is it not THE best! How I loved the memories of your Mom and Aunt and can just see them in my minds eye as young girls - we may have even been there during some of the same years.

No place on earth is as wonderful as Disneyland, the one and only Walt's creation. I'd give anything to go back again...I'd skip the "other side" and simple enjoy every nook and cranny (even though there are lots changes)...ahh..the sweet memories.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful trip with us.

... and those beignets...sooo yummy! I want some right NOW!!!

Liesa,

sorry for an OT post but was hoping you wonderful people could offer prayers to my cousin's family as they prepare to bury their beautiful 9 month old son on Friday. Austin lost his fight with Alper's syndrome this weekend. This is their only child together.

Thanks.

Oh, Jill, I am so very sorry....as a bereaved mother, I understand very well what this dear family is going through...my heart grieves for them and with them and will hold you all very, very near in heart and prayer.

Theirs is the beginning of a life long journey. I am so sorry.:littleangel:

Another great update!

Sleeping Beauty Castle may be small but it sure is pretty! Besides, Aurora also has that fancy shmancy castle at Disneyland Paris so she had nothing to complain about. ;)

So with the greatest of train driving skill, the engineer babied that massive hulk of steel with the care of a mother for its newborn, and right on target, it stopped exactly where it needed to be for the ramp to come down for us to load.

Wow! That's amazing!

It was hilarious watching them take a trip down memory lane, and I couldn’t help but get the warm fuzzies seeing how much they were enjoying themselves.

(sniffle) Some dust in the air here, or something...

Speeding, of course, is a relative term, but don’t say that the next time you get pulled over.

:lmao: Or ask him what the issue is, since he was driving just as fast.

Commando has its place, but some trips deserve the attention to detail only slowing down can afford; and some trips deserve attention to relationship building, which only taking a bit of extra time can render.

Very well said. :thumbsup2

And you can’t have one of these without just a few of these:

Aurora clearly got the short end of the stick concerning real estate. Maybe she needs to take that up with the fairies sometime- just sayin’. But hey, location, location, location!!

I think it just proves that Cinderella is more high-maintenance.

Dads, please talk to your girls after this ride and help them understand this is not ok anywhere off this ride!

"Don't wear anything I wanted your mother to wear when we were your age!" :rotfl2:

You had to do it didn't you ... you just couldn't resist tossing in those tinly morsels of fried, sugar-powdered goodness ... I was doing well today (no HONEST I was) ... until, of course, BEIGNETS were in the picture ... :confused3

Sincerely Liesa ... it is a beautiful road of memories you allow us to walk with you ... thank you for letting us peer over your rainbows!!

Jill, your cousins' family is in our prayers.

I am ignorant on multiple quotes but thank you all. I'm sure the thoughts and prayers will mean the world to them. Alper's syndrome is a genetic, mitochondrial disease. The doctors were able to identify the defective gene and my cousin and her husband will be able to have healthy children in the future. Austin's heart was able to be donated to another child in need so there is some good coming out of his passing.

Liesa, what a wonderful update! The beignets and juleps are definitely on my list of things to do when I visit DL the next time!

And sorry that you could not go on the Storybookland boat - this is one of my favourite attractions at DL. DLP has a version as well. It is just so charming! :goodvibes

Great update Liesa!

I definitely want to do DLR at some point and just enjoy the history of it.

Oh, and you and Bek are sweeter'n a Mickey head beignet.

Awwwww... it's just so sweet reading about your Mom and Aunt's trips down memory lane at Disneyland. It's sounded like they've had some really great times there together. This love they have for Disney is very special I can tell and so sweet, love it! (:

Ooooo... Dinosaurs on the railroad! That's wicked cool. I totally want to come to DLR now since I'm pretty sure WDW doesn't have something like that on the Disney World Railroad.

Ooooo... beignets! They look SOOO GOOD! I really need to try them one of these days :D

Yeah, Aurora's castle is definitely smaller, but it looks more vibrant and you also can walk through it at any time. And there is A TOUR! Yeah, I've done my research hahaha Cindy's Castle though is still just so grand and awe-inspiring to me, though I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty Castle in person yet :/

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Wonderful update. It AMAZES me how much I actually recognize from DL since I haven't been since I was about 5. I guess we really did spend a lot of time there.

How heart warming your mom and Cherrie giggling like school girls. That in its self must have made your trip.

Just wanted to share !!I got a very nice letter from Jordan today !!He is living and working in Kentucky and doing well !!

California Grill sounds like a perfect meal. The cheese plate looks so good. I've never seen Wishes from California Grill, but I can see how it might be a less magical experience than on Main Street. I can't help you out with pushing a nine year old in front of you, but if you're ever at California Grill again, and we're there, I can definitely arrange for a toddler to pull your hair and kick you repeatedly during Wishes. Just let me know.

Disneyland looks so awesome! Except for the castle. Aurora should definitely complain about that one. Those Mickey head beignets look like fun. I wonder why POFQ doesn't have Mickey beignets.

Hey Liesa! Seems like you are busy like the rest of us this summer. ::yes:: No worries... I was only 25(ish) pages behind this time. :sad2:

Love all your pics from DL. Having never been there it is interesting to see the differences between there and WDW.

Looks like you got a lot accomplished in Epcot. Sorry you got soaked. :scared1: 5 drinks in 5 days... I wonder if this trend will keep up.... :rolleyes1

Your CG meal looks scrumptious! What is better than a great meal with great friends and grrrrrreat laughs? (no Tony the Tiger)

Caught up once again... I'm going to try not to be 25+ pages behind again.

Another fantastic update! I love the memories of the "girls" in their younger years!

Jill in CO

It's been fun to recount how much fun we had! Glad you're enjoying it too!

great update, we enjoy taking the slow down trips as well, our next one will be like that with a new little one, which is nice to do.

and the memory lanestories were great. thanks.
:thumbsup2

It IS nice to do- you actually see more. Probably not more thrill rides, but more of the amazing stuff that is all around you at the Disney parks!

It was great seeing Mom and Cherrie having so much fun together :)

What a great afternoon! I loved the description of you imagining your mom and Cherrie in their younger days in bermuda shorts, cat eye glasses, teeny bopper sweaters, and pony tails. Just think, without this trip those memories would not have been conjured up.

It was such a hoot! They actually were laughing at themselves the whole time, going on and on about their funny clothes they wore (although, I have to giggle myself, as my girls just themselves a couple pairs of Bermudas at the Goodwill the other day). They were cracking up describing themselves as "hot stuff", as was I!

Liesa, another great update. The detail is terrific and I'm so glad you were able to enjoy the memories on the train ride.

I love the picture of the three of you -- it's a keeper!

There's so much more coming up! I wish I could bring myself to go faster, but I'd have to leave so very much out.... I think most of you would rather get the whole story, than a blaze through job.

I love that photo!!! Def. a keeper :)

 Liesa! I'm so sorry I've not been around lately, but I read every email update. ;) Had to come say hello today because I especially loved this update and photos. I have missed you, Christine! I know I haven't been around anywhere near as much as I'd like to be; it's been an insane summer, full of wonderful things. Glad you posted to say howdy and recall a few of your favorite memories!

That is incredible!! A BOAT RIDE! Who knew??! That really sounds like a neat concept.

Oh, but that train ride - is it not THE best! How I loved the memories of your Mom and Aunt and can just see them in my minds eye as young girls - we may have even been there during some of the same years.

I am certain you would have been! They went several times a year together just to hang out, and always loved the train. They kept saying how they'd strut around the park like they owned it, and knew it like the backs of their hands. Fun stuff!

No place on earth is as wonderful as Disneyland, the one and only Walt's creation. I'd give anything to go back again...I'd skip the "other side" and simple enjoy every nook and cranny (even though there are lots changes)...ahh..the sweet memories.

:goodvibes

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful trip with us.

... and those beignets...sooo yummy! I want some right NOW!!!

You are so welcome, Christine! I am enjoying it every bit as much as you all!

Beignets are NOT hard to make at home! Give it a try!

Another great update!

Sleeping Beauty Castle may be small but it sure is pretty! Besides, Aurora also has that fancy shmancy castle at Disneyland Paris so she had nothing to complain about. ;)

So true, she got the double or nothing win. Someday, I'll get over to DLP!

Wow! That's amazing!

I was duly impressed!

(sniffle) Some dust in the air here, or something...

Those darn allergies...

:lmao: Or ask him what the issue is, since he was driving just as fast.

:lmao: I wonder how fast you'd see the inside of the holding tank?

Very well said. :thumbsup2

Why am I not surprised Homer came to the Beignet party??

I think it just proves that Cinderella is more high-maintenance.

I think that's safe to say.

"Don't wear anything I wanted your mother to wear when we were your age!" :rotfl2:

Sincerely Liesa ... it is a beautiful road of memories you allow us to walk with you ... thank you for letting us peer over your rainbows!!

Far be it for me to make a grown man cry with a picture of golden brown, tender on the the inside, powdery sweet on the outside fried balls of dough. Did that help??

You should have seen the inside of that bag after we'd taken those puppies out... I no lie, swear there was at least a 1/2 a cup of extra powdered sugar in there that if anyone wanted to could drown themselves or their sorrows in.

You are entirely welcome to come peek over my rainbows and memory lanes to travel- I have WAY more Disney rainbows to bring you. :goodvibes

That's why we're here, Jill- anytime you need us, let us know. I imagine today will be very difficult for you; know we are all praying for peace and assurance for you today.

Donation is a wonderful gift to share; even a little good from this is comforting.

Liesa, what a wonderful update! The beignets and juleps are definitely on my list of things to do when I visit DL the next time!

And sorry that you could not go on the Storybookland boat - this is one of my favourite attractions at DL. DLP has a version as well. It is just so charming! :goodvibes

If you like mint, you'll like the juleps... I know some people would say it's like drinking toothpaste, which would be awful, but for some reason I really like them. :confused3

I think I may have a surprise for you when I get to our 2nd day..... :rolleyes1

Great update Liesa!

I definitely want to do DLR at some point and just enjoy the history of it.

Oh, and you and Bek are sweeter'n a Mickey head beignet.

My Golden Friend:

We took in some pretty fantastic history on our trip.... but more later on the 2nd day after my cousin showed up.

Awwww... thanks! We really do think about our Readers; they are so much more, and we call them true friends. It's amazing how many times every day we find ourselves saying, "Hey, that reminds me of XXX...."
