We're thinking of heading here for our DHS day lunch next week:dance3:. I've seen mixed reviews, but we're adventurous foodies, and the Cuban Sandwich and Chicken Curry sound good to me. Also, Tourguide Mike's review mentioned a veggie hummus/tabouleh wrap, but I didn't see that on the DIS menus for the place.

If you've eaten these things there, please tell me how they are. :)

If it's bad, we'll just go for a nice big Turkey leg!:thumbsup2

I haven't eaten at ABC Commissary for a while but have eaten the Cuban sandwich there and if you've eaten a real Cuban sandwich before you will be disappointed.

We went there a few years ago. I didn't think it was as bad as some here say it is, but perhaps we were lucky.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the chicken curry or veggie sandwiches. I think we all went with burgers/nuggets etc.

In my most recent visit in mid-October, the Chicken Curry was the single best CS item I ate on the entire trip*. By a wide margin. I am so over the pulled pork sandwiches and burgers at WDW. Dreadful.

*I did not make it to AK on my last trip. When I go there, I usually eat luch at FTBBQ. That (IMHO) is the best CS in all of WDW.

I had the chicken curry oin July and was pleasantly surprised, it was a failry big portion, I shared with one of the kids.

I get the chicken curry every time we go. We most recently went in August 2010 and we had it again. However, they didn't have the Cuban sandwich this time.... so I'd check that out. However, we asked because that is what my wife wanted and they didn't have it - it was definitely NOT on the menu that I looked at. It was REALLY good though. Now, for a real Cuban, head over to Bongo's at DTD. Those are really good.

Good luck.

ditto on the asian salad--it is one of our favs. The veggie sandwich is really good, the Cuban is good but not authentic.

I had the Cuban sandwich at the window counter at Bongo's but not the restaurant itself,I thought it was as bad or worse than the one at ABC Commissary which could possibly have been been removed since it's been a while since I've eaten there. It's possible the ones served inside the restaurant are better but I doubt it.There are probably smaller unknown restaurants in Orlando that serve a better Cuban.I would recommend the Cuban sandwich at the Columbia restaurant in Celebration over the Bongo's location, even though Columbia adds salami to the sandwich which is a Tampa style Cuban.

Is the curry the spicy (hot) curry or just the regular curry? Would make a huge difference for us - Ive always loved curry but lately the spicy kind does not love me back.

Thanks :)

Fairly mild. Maye a "4" on a scale of 1 to 10.

I thought the sandwich at Bongo's was pretty good. Now, let's be real, the Cuban sandwiches at Disney are not authentic. I was born and raised in Connecticut but I have a bunch of relatives who live in all 5 boroughs of New York City and there was on small Cuban restaurant on Southern Blvd in the South Bronx that made the best Cuban sandwiches. When the place is filled with Cubans and the line for a sandwich is out the door, you know it's good. The sandwiches there were made on a different bread and they had the ham, roast pork, cheese, pickles, and a garlic spread. That was it! To die for!!!

Last year when we went to WDW, we went to some Cuban bakery in some part of Orlando that someone had told us to try. The sandwiches were gross. They even added ketchup to them :confused3.

So having had what I consider a great sandwich and a horrible one, the ones at the counter at Bongo's are not that bad. We can agree to disagree. That's what makes this fun!

I understand, I'm down in Miami and within a 10 minute drive I have 5-6 different places that serve Cuban Sandwiches,Medianoches etc..and I understand that a Cuban sandwich on Disney will not be anywhere near as good as any of these by my house, however I figured Bongo's being owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan would be a bit better,at least close to what you find in a typical Sergio's or Casavana restaurant you might find in Miami.

Doom1001- I used to live in Miami and totally miss the cuban food down there.
I have been craving pastelitos so badly and while I was down at WDW I had to settle for the ones they have at the Bongos windows. Definitely nowhere near the ones from real cuban bakeries.
I really miss Lila's, Latin American, and La Carreta the most.

The curry was very mild when I had it last year - I found it too bland in fact and didn't enjoy it at all, but I *like* a thick, slightly spicy curry with lots of veggies!

I had the chicken curry during our visit in August - I did think it was quite good and was pleasantly suprised.

It was a large portion but in my opinion very mild (previous poster gave it a 4 out of 10, I'd probably give it a 2 for spice levels) Also I thought the rice was a little stodgy - think it was long grain rather than basmati. Iwould eat it again if I was at HS

I do however love curry and thought our mael at Sanaa (can't remember if it's spelt like that) was the best meal that we had our whole 15 day stay (were on dining plan so tried lots of places)

We had the curry in September and really enjoyed it. It is very mild though, so don't expect something like you'd get at your local restaurant.

Medianoches etc.

I Love medianoches sandwiches!!! I am Puerto Rican but born and raised in the states. When I stepped foot on Piuerto Rico when I was 11, the first thing I had was a medianoche. Loved them ever since.

My little place in the Bronx has since closed so for me, I am looking for an authentic Cuban eatery. Nothing at all around here - not one Cuban spot for food.

Lucky you...
