AAA package vs AP's?

It's been a while since we've been to DL, though there have been several WDW trips, which raised several questions:

1. Are the dates listed in the AAA brochure (haven't checked DL travel co yet) for Value, Regular and Peak seasons based on your check-in date or your the last day of your stay? Our last couple of trips to WDW we've been able to check in on the last day of value season, but stay up to 10 days (ie, over Christmas) at the Value rate. We were staying at an AP rate, which might make a difference, and also leads to my next question. . .

2. Are there significant (or even decent) room discounts for AP holders for DL hotels? The last couple of trips to DL (back in '03), we saved more buying a package with tickets than we did with our AP's, which just seemed crazy. If it makes a difference we're thinking of going in December, before and possibly into the holidays.

Thanks for your help! You all know SO much more than any TA I ever ask.

I believe they base the rate on the actual dates of your stay. So, say you have 3 days at value (say $200 a night) and 2 nights at regular (say $300 a night) you would pay a total of $1200. They do sometimes offer great rates for ap holders. However, they base it on how full the hotels are. Right now they are selling out months in advance for the 50th celebration. They offered some good rates in January, but thats been it so far this year. Hard to say when they will offer something good again. You do get 10% off the rack rate, but thats really not all that great.

I tested my therory on the Disney site. Four nights, for one person, with a 4 day park hopper during value season was $1196 or $299 a night. Four days in holiday season was $1576 or $394 a night. Two days in each catagory was $1386 or $348 a night. So, they do charge by the day and season you are in.

I tested seasons on the AAA site. It was an extra hundred bucks a night for the GCH for July vs. June. Needless to say, we are prepared too suffer the chaos of the POTC reopening week to save six hundred bucks!
