AAA discounts

Could someone explain the logistics of the AAA discount to me? Wife and I and 2 kids are going in May. We're also taking grandma to help babysit part of the time. Grandma's husband is a AAA member, but he's not going.

Several questions:
(1) can we use grandma's husband's AAA discount even though he's not going but grandma is?

(2) if using the AAA discount, is it okay to go through a "disney specialist" travel agent or are there advantages to going through AAA directly?

(3) if we need to go through AAA directly, what are the logistics on that?

Thanks.

I think you'd need a AAA card at check-in. Is Grandma an associate member on the AAA membership? If so, she could present her card. I'm not sure if they would accept Grandma's husband's card if he's not there.

You can get a AAA discount on some rooms, if available by calling Disney directly or using a travel agent. But Disney is not allowing the discount on the Magic Your Way packages. (Example: you can book the room and get the AAA discount, and add tickets - but you cannot add dining plan and still keep the discounted AAA rate). It's usually 15-20% off depending on the season and resort category you choose.

HOWEVER, I believe you can call AAA and book a package through them and get the discount. I just called my local AAA agency, and the agent said she thought I could get the room discount with the Magic Your Way package plus dining plan. Keeping my fingers crossed as I await her call back!

AAA does offer additional benefits by booking through them:

AAA Vacations Diamond Card savings and values
AAA VIP Lounge visit including a soft drink (voucher required)
AAA Diamond Parking at all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks (subject to availability, voucher required, block-out dates apply)

AND for packages booked at a AAA travel agency between Jan. 1 - 31, 2005, for travel most nights between May 5 - Dec. 19, 2005 - you get 25 Disney Dollars!

Hope this helps... You can find your local AAA office at www.aaa.com!

WDWBetsy,

That is my understanding as well. I am heading out the door right now to go see a AAA agent and see what she can come up with. I will make sure to make a new post on what I find out. I should be back by 11:00 am or so.

You are awesome! My AAA agent said that Disney's computers had been down so that's why she couldn't call me with info yet.

GOOD LUCK!
