A YOU Worth Fighting For | January 2016 Weight Loss & Better Living Challenge

HI, gang, I had a pretty good week and lost 4 lbs!! And that is despite a brownie/ice cream splurge Thurs night for dh's birthday out at Outback...
I find that a salad at lunch makes a huge difference. Doing kale/berry/coconut milk/chia seed smoothies at breakfast too. Also got to the gym for Pilates on Mon, and plan on going today for elliptical after kid basketball games and errands.

All good things, all good things!

PS--#disconfession--I've. Never seen Mulan!

For anyone who is keeping up with their water intake, the Country Bear jug that can be purchased at Pecos Bills holds 4-5 cups of water! I only fill up the bottom portion of mine, which hold 4 cups of water, because my jug seems to leak if I pop the top off of the top a fill it. My sister fills hers from the top, which will hold 5 cups if you fill it completely to the top. For some reason I can drink so much more water if I am drinking out of that cute little jug than just a regular bottle of water!

Oh, and I am down one pound this week!

In case anyone cares, haha, this is our weather today in Memphis. UGH. It also doesn't help that it's grey and rainy and miserable outside.

Ok I'm at 20% - but really am having trouble getting off my butt :sad2: I need your help from those who are further along - I know its obvious just get up/out and do it but I really struggle - what are your tips to get moving?

Same here! I have trouble getting myself to get moving too! I'm just starting committing to getting myself moving so no tips here. Just letting you know, I understand completely. I'm interested to know if anyone has any tips for sure!

Did you ever see the Mulan parade at either of these locations? What is/are your favorite daytime or nighttime Disney parade(s)?

Oh man! That looks incredible! I haven't seen many since I've only been a hardcore park goer for the past 3 years, so I am going to have to say Festival of Fantasy. I love that dragon!

-------------------------------

I'll post my official percent tomorrow (since I need to get in on more workout to reach this weeks goal!), but I was SOOO pleased to weigh this morning to see that I had gone down 0.2 lbs even though I have been eating not so well with mom around! Getting moving is working-- I just have to keep it up. Our first Blue Apron came yesterday and so I get to try that tonight! Between that and more moving, I'm feeling optimistic--- even if there is a cake in my near future!

Oh my gosh I am so far behind! I need time to catch up but I will do a quick check in, I maden90% of my goal. I said I would do 5/7 days per week meeting calorie and step goals. I only missed 1 day of making my but I missed 3 days of staying within my calorie goal :sad2: Stupid christmas candy! Same goals for next week... let's see if I can do it this time around! I am upping my step goal to 7000/day.

So it is raining and grey outside today. My husband said go to the gym and use the treadmill. I got there and had forgot my membership card and lock at home. I think it was my subconscious working. I hate going to the gym! So I drove back home and went for a damp walk for 3.8k. :)

18.3k/60k = 30.5%

Happy Saturday! Anyone have any fun weekend plans? Don't forget to post your percentages today or tomorrow if you haven't already!!

From 1998-2001, Disney/MGM Studios and Disneyland both ran daily parades honoring Mulan.

From AllEars.net - "The parade begins with that pipsqueak of a dragon Mushu, who leads the way in a rickshaw that circles and cavorts down the street. He is followed by a larger-than-life matchmakerand a corps of future brides. Two tall pagodas and the moongate where Mulan and her father sit to exchange thoughts about the future finish out this opening sequence that pays tribute to Mulan's hometown.

Triumphant warriors returning from battle follow, hoisting the captured and shackled Shan Yu on their shoulders. Mushu has transformed into giant dragon with a battalion of soldiers re-enacting the battle against the Mongolian horde on the 150-foot long Great Wall.

A victory celebration follows, with joyous street performers, including stiltwalkers, kung-fu performers and a fleet-footed Chinese lion weave back and forth across the route. The grand procession concludes with the heroes of the story: the handsome Shang, beautiful Mulan herself and her proud father ride atop an elaborately decorated, horse-drawn carriage as they receive their heroes' welcome. The Emperor overlooks the end of the parade, watching the brave souls who have brought honor to their people."

I definitely miss the parades of the 90's. Did you ever see the Mulan parade at either of these locations? What is/are your favorite daytime or nighttime Disney parade(s)?

I don't really watch the parades. My son has an aversion to big crowds that clustered together, so during parade times we usually hit more rides.

Down 2.2 pounds this week! At 50% of my goal.

Surprised I lost 2 lbs this week, as I just continued WW PointsPlus , same plan I've been following since mid-August. I usually lose 1 pound a week. I'm finally under 150 - haven't been under in several years.

QOTD -- I LOVE parades! Unfortunately, no one in my family shares my enthusiasm. We did see the parade at MVMCP in December. But we missed my favorite- the MSEP.

Love Mulan! Fond memories of taking my daughter to see this as part of a special Mother/Daughter time when she was 6 years old. She just turned 25 this week.

Hi friends! Spent the morning at the 2016 FIRST Robotics World Kickoff! Hanging with celebs like Dean Kamen, Woodie Flowers, and a NH senator, governor, and the city mayor....:teeth: always a good way to start a weekend, right??

Then DD and I had some lunch out (shared a plain baked potato and a small chili at Wendy's.... our options were limited due to our location) and then ran errands for some back-to-school supplies and groceries. Then home to feed the family (didn't have anything planned..... wasn't sure whether the men would be home or not) leftovers and sandwiches. Now to enjoy a light beer (woohooo.... my favorite light beer went down to 3 SP !!) and a bit of angelfood cake with strawberry sauce (another weekend treat). Just going to check out the QOTD and then change into my comfy sweatpants and enjoy the beer!...........P

Afraid not...... other than our Honeymoon in 1992, the 1990's were a "dark time" for us regarding Disney. We were too busy getting married, buying a house, and having babies! It honestly wouldn't have even occurred to me to spend the money on a trip during that time! In fact, if it weren't for a few things that came together at the same time (a plethera of frequent flier points from AirTran and the post 9-11 travel slowdown that resulted in LOW, LOW prices for airfare and hotels), we probably wouldn't have gotten to Disney for our first family trip in 2002! I do LOOOVVEE the parades though! I've been known to sit on the sidewalk in the hot sun for 90 minutes or more trying to "hold" my parade viewing spot!! I can wax nostalgic for SpectroMagic.... we saw it when the kids were younger and it makes me all warm and squishy inside to even hear the music! And while I did NOT love Tapestry of Dreams/Nations when I first saw it, I also get that warm mushy feeling inside remembering watching it with my kiddos! Main Street Electrical is special because we saw it on our first (and only.... so far) trip to DL in 2005 and DD and I saw it in WDW during her graduation trip in 2013. I LOVE A GOOD PARADE!!

For some reason I stopped receiving notifications on this thread. And, this is my first month participating so I think between being new and lack of notifications I have missed some stuff. I see that I was supposed to weigh in. I did do a weigh in for myself on Jan 1. I’ll do another tomorrow and use that to see if there has been any change since Jan 1 and which direction. I’m happy to report that I managed to make some positive changes for the first week. I did mall walking 3x this week, each time I completed 2 miles. I had a meal plan for the week for homemade meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and stuck with it. My family helped out more with emptying the dishwasher, setting the table, clearing plate, a battle I had been fighting for a long time but just seemed to happen once the family saw me working so hard. My kids usually come home with their lunches barely touched. This week they ate most of their lunches every day. Almost daily I do McD’s drive through for an unsweetened ice tea to satisfy my caffeine dependence. Sometimes I weaken and order something to eat as well but with my meal plan and homemade breakfast at home, there was nothing purchased other than the iced tea. I can feel myself being happier and calmer with myself. I hope there has been a change in the scale but even if there isn’t I feel like it was a good week and hope I can maintain what I have been doing. For next week I am going to aim for maintaining the meal planning and the mall walking. I’ll try to add something new the following week after I have two solid weeks of success.

SO glad to meet you.... and so glad to hear about your victories over the junk food this week! Sorry you aren't getting notifications..... what a pain in the butt!

Okay friends.... sweatpants and beer are calling me! Hmmmm..... is it a Downton Abbey night as well?..............P

It was pretty yucky here today to, and so foggy right now, but I'll take it over it snowing. I really do not belong in the north east at all.

My first time in Disney was 2002 so I missed all the 90's parades. I don't even really remember that trip beyond spending way too much time in Tomorrow Land (so much that I avoid it now), Norway because of a doorway that I took a picture in, and we ate at prime time cafe. That was a trip with school.

Honestly I don't really care about the parades. I know for some people that makes me crazy, and I'm okay with that. I grew up in a house on a parade route and it made me get up early every single holiday which just made me mad haha. I'd rather navigate around the parade to a ride, or like I did at the Christmas party I found my place for wishes while everyone else was watching the parade.

Work was bad today. I got called in early, found out I didn't have enough hours and had to stay late. Then I didn't take a break till 8 hours into my day. I worked off of half a cup of coffee and a banana. So much for health. I had to whip together something quick for dinner just to get calories in. I used juice for extra calories too. Normally I'd just graze and eat everything and go so far over on calories so at least I kept it under control.

I have been a bit behind on reading all the post as I have been struggling with a migraine. It is probably from eating so poorly during the holidays!

T'S HERE!!! It's our VERY FIRST WOOHOO WEDNESDAY OF 2016!!!!!!!

For Woohoo Wednesday, I bought the perfect pair of heels that make me feel like I own the place when I wear them.

QOTD for Thursday, January 7, 2016

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it's true! It gets your metabolism going, and sets you up for success for the rest of the day. But it's also the most often skipped meal, mainly due to time constraints.

Do you say breakfast every day, or are you more likely to skip it? What are your favorite/go-to breakfast foods? If you usually skip, are you going to make more of an effort to work breakfast into your routine?

Breakfast is a hard one for me. If I eat first thing in the morning I feel really nauseous, so I often found myself skipping breakfast. Recently I have started to make myself an green smoothy to drink on my long commute into work.

It's fun to incorporate a little "Disney" into your exercise! A couple of months before leaving for Disney, I start walking with my kids. Over the years, I started making charts to give the kids rewards for walking. The last couple of years, I planned it out and got more creative than ever with it. First, the kids and I figured out how many miles it was from our house to Disney. For every mile we walked, I said it would count as 10 miles. With those as the rules, we “walked to Disney” in the 2 months and a week before our trip. I blogged all about how we did this here https://aleasalbums.wordpress.com/2015/01/07/walking-to-disney/

Love this idea! Maybe I can convince my DH no walk with me.

Good morning, losers!! It's our first RESULTS WEEKEND of 2016!

Post your results here in the thread, and, as always, make sure you give the percentage of your progress so I can track it. That's the only number I need so if you don't want to give your weight or anything, that is totally fine!

As of yesterday I am 24% closer to my end goal

Has anyone tried one of those 3-5 days cold pressed juice cleanses?

I have. I don't think anything restrictive is actually good for you, or a lasting solution at all. So it ended up being a lot of money for juices that I ended up using as extra nutrients. I'd use them like that every so often rather than the whole system. I'm pretty sure you can get them on their own at health shops. Some are super yummy, some not so much.

Okay so I'm at 0%. Literally did not lose even .1 of a pound. Which made me have a hard look at my intake last week, but I think some also has to do with retaining water and bigger muscle gains because my body shape is changing. So I think because this isn't just about fat loss, that it's about running I need to revise my goal for 5 pounds which is still hefty but doable in three weeks. I think I need to brain storm other ways to keep track of myself that's not purely on the scale.

I'm glad I didn't gain, but I'm really not sure at all how I managed to be the exact same down to the .6 haha.

Oh well work then a nice 3 mile run (gotta love the lower weeks after the high mile weeks). I'm glad it's supposed to be unseasonably warm. I'm going to push it and get some work frustration out. Very few hills today main focus is speed. Lets hope it stops raining soon!

So sorry that your work day got out of hand. But good for you for keeping the calories under control. When I first started working my evening job (just once a week), I wasn't prepared for how STARVING I would be when I got home.... and I didn't always have something waiting to eat. I found that many weeks I would just start eating.... and not really stop when I should! I learned pretty quickly to have something QUICK AND EASY AND OP ready to eat! And then to STOP eating, even though I still felt hungry (or even hangry!). I needed to allow the food time to "settle in" and all. I often leave myself a serving of overnight oats ready to grab.... or make sure that my men leave me one serving of whatever was in the crockpot that day (although I often use my work night as a night to give them something I don't care for). Or I make a plate of "planned-overs" for myself over the weekend, ready to grab and heat and eat. But it is HARD when you don't know that the late work night is coming! GOOD JOB!

I have been a bit behind on reading all the post as I have been struggling with a migraine. It is probably from eating so poorly during the holidays!

Sorry about this. Would you would still have a headache from holiday eating this late into January??! That is crazy! Maybe it is an allergy?

For Woohoo Wednesday, I bought the perfect pair of heels that make me feel like I own the place when I wear them.

Oohhhh..... what style/brand? I think EVERYONE should have a pair of shoes like this!

Breakfast is a hard one for me. If I eat first thing in the morning I feel really nauseous, so I often found myself skipping breakfast. Recently I have started to make myself an green smoothy to drink on my long commute into work.

Good to bring along something you can just sip on!

Excellent!!

Has anyone tried one of those 3-5 days cold pressed juice cleanses?

I haven't tried that specifically, but I do own a juicer and have done my own style of cleanse in the past. Usually after a holiday or vacation of eating lots of junk.... it helps me feel like I am resetting my system and getting the toxic junk out. But I don't usually lose much weight. And to be real, I do get hungry..... sometimes VERY hungry. The longest I have ever done is 3 full days (B/L/D/Snacks). And I try to do about 75% veggies/25% fruits so as not to get too much sugar. I know the idea of a juice cleanse is to not have any solids, but my juicer doesn't do a great job on greens, so sometimes I take the fresh homemade juice and throw it in a blender with greens. It just feels healthier!

How is the juice bottled? From what I have read about juicing, it is BEST when the juice is SUPER FRESH. Oxygen is the enemy of the nutrients in juice. That is what was the biggest PITA about juicing was feeling like I had to make it fresh (and clean up the mess) 3-4 times a day! I finally ended up making the juices once a day and figured "good enough"!

I have. I don't think anything restrictive is actually good for you, or a lasting solution at all. So it ended up being a lot of money for juices that I ended up using as extra nutrients. Fingers crossed that today's warmer temps aren't accompanied by too much rain! Sorry you weren't a "loser" this week.... how frustrating.

*****************************

I'm up and moving and have a pot roast in the crockpot for Sunday dinner (aka lunch). The men will be at the robotics lab 4-8 today and probably EVERY night next week. DD moves back to school in a week, so this may be our last chance for a true FAMILY dinner before she goes..... so I got up early to put the pot roast into the crockpot. Hopefully 5.5 hours on high will be enough!!

Have a great Sunday!............P

I have never even seen Mulan!! Oh the shame!

PS--#disconfession--I've. Never seen Mulan!

"Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!" (Now you gotta watch to hear Eddie Murphy saying that). Mulan is my youngest DD one of her favs, at 19 still pulls it out to watch! Lol last fathers days she signed her dads card "love you, you bring honor to us all" :)

Okay so I'm at 0%. ....

I'm glad I didn't gain!

If can be frustrating, I'm with you a lot! I lose very slowly.....keep on the course your body will catch up!

I like night parades, not much a fan of the daytime ones. My favorite is the Halloween, but i also love electrical light

Spent the day scrapbooking with my friends, didn't food journal and had a couple drinks. Hope I didn't ruin my future loss for this coming week. I did complete my workout schedule for week one of my 8 week program and i have been sore in muscles I forgot I had!

SO jealous of your scrapping day! Maybe I ought to plan my own for this afternoon when the men are gone! .................P

So 1.5 lb, so 30% for monthly goal. All I have planned for the day is walking my dog and laundry. I am still fighting a chest cold of sorts, so a bit low on energy.

I am going to see if I can talk DH or DS to go for a grocery run today. I am trying to plan out the week for meals that are at least a little lighter than what we have had for the last few weeks over the holidays. I can eat salads but the boys and DH don't go for it at all.
