A World of Lights: Light Fixtures at Disney

One for today:

This one is my favorite. It's Luxo the icon from Pixar. I believe he's now retired, but he used to come out from behind the shutters and enterain the guests. Very cute.

A less interactive, but more permanent fixutre from Animal Kingdom Lodge.

This lighting, with waves and stars (starfish?), was the original Michael Graves (architect) theme of the Dolphin and Swan resorts when they opened in 1990. I did on-site business for a convention in 1991, and every chandelier, sconce, lamp, everywhere had this imprint on it. Even the stationery and resort logo emphasized the waves. You still see the waves in the current logo, but more simplified.

The next time I stayed there was in 2009, and the lighting and interiors had been elevated from "playful & beachy" to "luxury-chic." The lighting was replaced with simpler, more refined designs. At that time, just looking around, I found some left-behind original lights, in the bus depot area of the Swan Resort. I'm not sure if they're still there, 3 years since I last saw them.
