a word of warning if you ever need medical treatment

In August DS was assaulted by tinkerbell and suffered a nasty puncture wound to his thigh. He sat (with the vigor of a teenager) on the tinkerbell key ring that was attached to DW's hand bag. It wasn't until we got back to the hotel that we discovered just how much damage tinkerbell's wing had inflicted through his shorts.

We ended up spending a few hours being seen at the Centra Care near the Cross Roads. They gave us the option of phoning our insurers and getting faxed confirmation that they would cover the treatment or just paying by credit card. In total the bill was about $240 for the consultation and then $50 for dispensing the consequential antibiotics. I was quite impressed with the service we received.

I've made the claim on the insurance but have yet to see any money back.

If you are traveling without a credit card then make sure you keep your insurance details handy and check what the policy says about emergency treatment. If all else fails I wonder if the health provider would entertain a third party paying - taking a credit card payment over the phone, from someone at home.
