A word of advice to fellow DVCers...bring extra clothes

We are "home" now and it is COLD and I mean COLD here. Dumb ol me told my DW I wont need jeans Ill be in shorts the whole week. I told her next trip dont ask me what to pack cause Im stupid. Plain and simple.
Just a word of advice, pack for cold weather with hopes that it will warm up. A hooded sweatshirt will do well. Dont forget ponchos either. Hope u dont need but bring cause it looks trendy right now. Not trying to discourage but hoping you dont end up with the souvenir cold I am taking home with me.

Unfortunately this isthe time of year that one needs to bring a variety of clothes on a WDW vacation. It can be warm enough today for shorts & swimming & tomorrow you will need sweaters, hats & gloves. You can never tell ahead of time. Have fun though & maybe you can buy some new jeans or other items of clothing .

A few times DS and I had to buy more pants and sweat shirts while we were in WDW Nov 30-Dec 7. I had packed us to be in the Caribbean. With less than 22hrs before we were to cruise our plans were changed. We went with what was packed. And boy was it cold & wet.

Jimmac - at 7:00 last night, it was 34º in Plant City - about 40 minutes west of WDW.

I can hear the pumps running outside on the berry farms that are just down the street from us - and I think they normally turn those on at 38º or 40º.

It's only supposed to get to 60º, or so, today - but it "should" be warming up more as the week goes on - I'm watching the forecast now - up to 77º on Thursday, then a slight chance of rain on Friday - but NOTHING like the unseasonal rain we had last week!!

We got back two weeks ago today & we were FROZEN... we were there for two weeks & I think I wore shorts TWICE... even my kids were cold... the days it was 70, it truly didn't feel like it, the wind was cold! It's the first time in five years I've ever been cold this time of year!!! I even had to buy mittens for the night time!

Aaaah, you don't listen to me. I know it's hard to believe just how cold it can get at WDW....and your not even close yet. I was like you my first December trip figuring I "might" need a sweater at night. Little did I know I could use a jacket during the day and my parka at night!

Anyone heading down....listen to jimmytammy. Don't forget the layers, don't forget the gloves, and maybe toss in a hat. If your lucky, it'll stay in the closet. If it's cold, they'll be worth their weight in gold.

I know its cold there, but it has to be great to have that winter air and all the Christmas decorations at the greatest place on Earth. I hope to go next year to see all the lights.

Hi, jimmytammy! We're heading down very soon, and I'm finding it tricky to pack the variety of clothes we'll probably need while still trying to conserve space.

Just curious if you've had any days warm enough for swimming. I know the pools are heated, but it can be a LOOOOONNNNGGG walk to and from the pool if the air is chilly.

So sorry to hear that you've caught a cold down there. Hope you've had a great time in spite of the cold weather.

We usually go to WDW in December or January and have our winter coats with because we need them at home (Minnesota). I usually bring a variety of warm and cool weather clothes for trips that time of year.

This is where it's such a godsend to have a laundry room in the unit. When you have to pack for all possibilities, it's great to be able to cut down on what you're bringing knowing you can wash/dry and wear it again.

We always bring layers. We find it's better than a big bulky coat.

Travelbug, there's always going to be someone in the pool, no matter how frigid it is. Sure, the water is heated, but you've got to get out of the pool at some point, not to mention having your head frozen like a popsicle.

LOL--you bring back memories! On one of our first vists to WDW in December, we were at the airport and DH was deciding whether to bring his coat along on the trip with us--his famous quotation, "What do I need a coat for in Florida in the winter?" Having little experience on the subject myself (but thinking I would at least need a coat when we returned), I brought along a coat for myself and our DS (a pre-schooler way back then )......

Yes, on that trip, it did get down to freezing and poor DH did get awful cold.... As a result for December trips, we pack for all weather. DH is extremely glad that we have DVC now and we can wash clothes--making it easier to pack a little of this and a little of that.

(Last year, we were there the first part of Dec for a weekend and the temps were in the 80's... you just never know what it is going to do.)

Thanks for all the posts. Jimmac to answer your question, last night I was walking by the quiet pool on the villas side heading to Roaring Forks to get DW and myself some coffee after a very cool evening at MVMCP, I heard voices coming from the hottub area but there was so much fog coming off the top of the pool that I
could not see them. Thats how cold it was!! BRRRRRR!!!

By the way we got to see the parade and fireworks at MVMCP after being rained out Thurs nite and they were wonderful.

Someone posted about having wash/dry in 1 and 2 bedroom suites and we will definitely be getting one of those next trip after having to dry all our wet clothes from Thurs nite in the laundry area on other end of lodge.

I would still rather be in Florida now than Ohio!!

I didn't get too much sympathy when I returned to work today and complained it was cold and rainy in FL last week! Everyone said it was better than a week in PA!

Be sure to bring your gloves, they make a big difference in the evening when it's cold.

We just got back yesterday and we also brought back souvenier colds. Being from Michigan and the lovely temps in the 20's we have been having, the 60 & 70's last week were very welcome - unfortunately with the rain and I mean RAIN it seemed alot colder. We were very comfortable in shorts with a jacket most of the time - it wasn't until Friday that we really needed long pants. My sister and her family (who live in Florida) met us down there and they were dressed in long pants and jackets all day long. They actually turned the heat on in their room one evening. This was our very first trip "home" and even though it rained the majority of the time we had a Great time. We just kept telling ourselves a cold rainy day in WDW is always better than being back in Michigan!

We just returned home last night after a 9 night stay in DW at the BCV. By the way, were we ever happy with our decision to buy into DVC. Anyway, Saturday night we were walking around MGM looking at the beautiful Osborne Lights and we had layers on and yes, gloves too! We've been to DW many times this same time of year; we've had rain, but not like the downpours we had this trip. There were a couple of brave sould swimming, but those of us walking by wearing our layers thought they had to be nuts! It was still a fun trip, but we did miss the nice weather, especially when we called home (Chicago) Sunday night to hear it was 50 here and in the 40's in Orlando!

Yep, us too. We went for a weekend trip, Thursday - Monday, Dec 16. It was COLD!! We wore shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets every day, all day. It was great weather back in Dallas, but I didn't mind putting up with a little chill for the weekend!! Had a great time!

I have to take exception to the statement that someone is always in the pool, because last year on Christmas Day it was a rainy 59 degrees at the BWV, and no one swam all day, not even the kids!! I sure did enjoy having two hot tubs to visit, though! That was our first time at Christmas, and it was so lovely, that we are going back again this year! Although not swimming was a bummer, there were so many holiday things to do instead, that it almost made up for the lack of heat There is nothing lovlier than the Osbourne Lights on Christmas Eve, and they even included snow on the last day of 75 degree weather! I swear, though, that the snow didn't even melt on Christmas Day, but DH says that I am exaggerating how cold it really was. For those of you who just got back, did you notice how much colder 60 degrees seems in Florida than it seems in the Midwest? At 60 degrees we don't even wear jackets at home, but I wore a down filled parka in Florida, and I was still cold! Go figure!
