a woman tried to steal my daughters fan today

It really is sad that some people just "assume" it's theirs if no one is around. They must never had been taught right from wrong.

I'd like to share something with you. 2 years ago, myself, wife and son (age 9) were getting dropped off the bus around 2:00 in the afternoon, at Port Orleans French Quarters, where we were staying, to freshen up, change clothes and head back out.

Off the bus, my son and I saw (at the same moment) a video camera bag. No id on it or in it but many video tapes and camera inside.

We all thought "some families Disney memories that could never be replaced." My son said, "Dad, let's take this right to the front desk. Some family will be looking for it." He was so proud carrying it to the front desk and we explained to the CM where we found it (at the bus stop benches) and that hopefully someone will claim it. My son knew it was the right thing to do. We all did as that is how we were brought up and taught our son from an early age. The CM thanked us but it was no problem. It was the right thing to do. And the only thing.

We only hoped it got back to it's family.

Well, about an hour and a half later, we were on our way again and the bus was waiting. We got on and you'll never guess what happened next?

Across from my family, another family was sitting and they were holding a video camera bag. The exact one we turned in. The wife was crying and talking to her husband how thankful they were that someone turned it into the front office. It had all the vacation videos and they were heading home the next day.

My son wanted me to say something. That we were the one's who found it and turned it in.

I whispered to my son "No, don't say anything. Just enjoy the moment." He said "Dad, I feel really good inside."

"I said me and mom also, Christopher, me and mom also"

I don't know if the feeling inside me was one which the family got their memories back or the proudness of my son knowing how to do the right thing.

I think he's doing okay.

Think and do the good things. Live is much to short. Disney should always be a magical place for us all.

Thanks for reading. Just wanted to share this.

Thank you.

I just wanted to share this and appreciate your reading it.

We just have to teach our little ones what is right and what is wrong. And most improtantly, remember that they are always looking to us for guidance. Even if we think they aren't.

Take care!

This happened 20 or so years ago. My husband and I were having lunch at the Polynesian. We were sitting at a table and this other family was sitting in a booth across from us. After they left we saw an enormous roll of money on the floor. I walked around the lobby to see if they might still be around but didn't see them. We turned the money in right then to the employees at the restaurant. Midway through our meal they came over to tell us there really wasn't much money there. I always wondered if we handled it right, should we have taken it to lost and found.

You did what you thought was right at the time. If it was me and lost it, I would have headed back to the restaurant first.

Hopefully, they got it back.

And they thank you everytime they think about it.

I can't understand thinking it is okay to take something from someone's carriage...or even keep something of value that you found.

A few years ago, after watching the fireworks from the terrace area of the resturant that is between Main Street and Tomorrow land, I literally tripped over a camera bag. Someone had put their camera bag with a 35mm Nikon camera and all the bells and whistles (ie. extra lenses, filters, two flashes) on the ground and obviously walked off without it. It was all opened and just sitting there. There was also some money in the bottom (later found out it was the emergency stash).

Well when I saw it, I immediately picked it up and went over to the resturant. Even though it was closed, I got the attention of a CM and told her what I found. She got her manager to find out if they should take it there or if I should bring it to Lost and Found on the way out. Well the manager called the front desk (after making sure it would not be an inconvenience to me to take to to City Hall on the way out), and found out that the person who lost it was there. Seems that his baby got sick and without thinking about the camera, the parents immediately headed for baby services to clean the baby up and change the clothes. It wasn't until the crisis passed that he realized he didn't have the camera. He was so happy to get his camera back. Although the baby was just that, a baby about 7 months old, they had taken many precious picture.

When we dropped off his camera bag to him, he stated he was so happy not to lose the pictures since they couldn't be replaced. My niece who was three at the time looked at him and with the cutest face said "I would be sad if we lost our camera..it is my sisters first time here too. I'm so glad we found it for you." Gave the guy and his wife a good laugh.

Never did it cross my mind not to turn in the camera, but according to the CM's at City Hall, there are plenty who wouldn't have given the number of items that never show up.

Each trip we take, we really make an extra effort to share 'magic' with others and be sure we encourage DD and DS to do so as well. Whether it being helping a disabled person onto or off a ride (CMs are not allowed to assist), or 'sharing' the ride in the monorail cab, picking up the fallen 'binky', sharing 'wheels' at the Lego store, or just sharing a smile...sometimes the simplest act can make someone else's day just a little brighter. Most importantly you feel good yourself....spread cheer, it's contagious and comes back tenfold.
