A Whole Lot Of Crazy! Guys Swam to Discovery Island and Posted Pics on Blog

Thank you for sharing! I have very fond memories of Discovery Island. My parents, who are both gone now, always brought me there when I was little. I miss exploring the island with them.

You're welcome! There are some cool, strange, eerie pictures on that blog. I do wish Disney would consider reopening Discovery Island. It would take a lot of work and money. But I bet it was awesome.

I thought they still held corporate parties there.

Pictures are pretty cool...reminds me of the old Dharma facilities on Lost. haha.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. That was really awesome to look at!!

I do wish he'd gotten more pictures, though!

The pictures are cool. I'm surprised someone would have the nerve to go there like that!

How about snakes.

They had the Disney Tri-athalon last Labor Day in Bay Lake. Someone said it will not be held this year, because of water moccasins.

:scared1:I remember swimming at River Country and I remember touring Discovery Island as a kid. It freaks me out now to know what a hard time they had keeping alligators out of River Country when it was open. Between the bacteria, alligators, and snakes, there's no way I'd want to swim in Bay Lake now!

Also, I think it's so weird they left paperwork, pictures, etc. behind. Were they in a hurry before shutting Discovery Island down??:confused3

I suppose if he had got bitten or the he gets a bacteria infection in the future he will hold Disney responsible and ask for a few million to ease his sufferings?

That's really neat.. I want more pictures now! I love old abandoned things.

Pretty cool pictures. Those people are braver than I am. I would not get in that water!

Wow ! Talk about young and dumb !That bacteria is the reason there are all of those "Do Not Swin" sign on the lake, and dosen't every body of water in Fl have alligators in it.
Great pictures though, it makes me miss Discovery Island which was one of my favorite things back in the 70s when i was a kid. I'd love to go over there now and poke around but in the daylight and without the swimming part !:lmao: One thing that I'm wondering about is the picture inside a building that has lights on, but if they're keeping the dock lights on there's obviously still electricity running to the island.

In his blog he wrote that he had lived in Florida before, ok, dude, you didn't think there would be alligators? Seriously? We have seen alligators sunning themselves on the way from Pt Canaveral to the airport. But if someone got attacked, it would be a lawsuit.

And didn't they close River Country for a reason of the bacteria?

Scary that someone would do something like that.

Many moons ago, Dh and I went to Discovery Island a couple of times - and River Country, too. It is a shame that they are closed.

The pop pics are pretty interesting. Does anyone know of a link to see pictures of "treasure Island" , or "river Country"?
