So, what do you all think--should I keep it? I imagine that a better camera would make more out of this lens, but holy cow--this baby is sharp and the focus is sooooo fast! What a pleasure it is to use! No kidding--at least a half dozen people asked if I was a pro. Had the hood on, and people just got out of the way. I was laughing at this all morning.

The shoppers were out in force.

This little land shark is up for adoption from the local shelter. Oh, those days of razor sharp puppy teeth!

There was a little combo playing 60s and 70s music. Nice stuff.

I think I'd like this as a portrait lens as well.

Looks like you had a great time with your new toy!

That 100% crop of the bread is pretty outstanding. I thought 100% crops were supposed to look cruddy and soft.

So---what's the verdict? You didn't want to love it because it cost more than your first car, but I'm sure after today not loving it is not even a remote possibility.

Like I said before, if you really want it get a lot of use, feel free to leave it with check-in at BWV. I'd be more than happy to give it a workout in December only a few short weeks after you and DH leave. :thumbsup2

love the potter's hands shot. i've been wanting to go to cleveland's west side market ( since the east side closed) and this makes me put it up higher on the list..

Ya know what.... I don't think it looks right. Send me a PM and I'll give you my address and you can get it to me for some additional testing.

;)

It does need testing on a D300. I'd hate to put you through the trouble, though. So, I'll just PM you with my addy and we can swap camera bodies for about a year...
Seriously--do you think that the shots are that much better with this lens? TO my eye, they look pretty good, but I'm pretty new at this.

Well done, Laura. I'm so sorry I missed out on going with you today. We could have had a 24-70mm shoot out. :)

LOL.... we'll I've used the lens so I know what to look for in testing... yeah thats it. Thats the ticket.

I rented this lens last October to photograph my Aunts wedding and I loved it. Great focus, very sharp, but big. Its got great IQ, though I don't think I got the most out of it as I had only been using my D300 for a few weeks at the time I rented it. I wish I could afford it.

I think you all should send the camera and lens to an impartial bystander, say someone like oh, I don't know...me. I will be sure to give an unbiased opinion.

Seriously, before I saw the 100% crop of the bread I thought I could smell it. Looks like a keeper to me!

Fantastic shots Laura :worship: I have this and the 70-200 on my short NAS list. I just have to convince DW that furniture would only last a few years but these would last a lifetime. :rotfl2:

I would have no problem with that arguement! I picked the 70-200 over a new couch and don't regret it. :)

..you can always sit on the floor! LOL
Good looking on your convincing!

Or you could just get some of that cheap cardboard furniture they use for home staging .... who needs furniture when you are out shooting with a new lens anyway?

Great shots Laura !!! I cant wait to see what you get today. I wish I had that lens for today. My brother and I are going to the Street Rod Nationals that are in town and I dont think my 50mm is going to be wide enough for the shots I want to get. I hate to stick with the 18-55 kit but its my only other option for today.

Thanks for your nice comments, everyone. I'll probably be keeping it. NAS still isn't in full remission until I get that 70-200 next...

Probably.....

Who are you kidding?? ;) :)

It's just me and my DH (and the Labrabrats). We aren't extravagant in any way. (except for spoiling my dogs rotten) We work very hard for a living, and we can't take it with us. Life is short and photography adds greatly to its quality for me. So, what the heck....:goodvibes

Well put---I'm going to show this to DH. :rotfl2:
