Just today a trophy arrived for DS9 stating that he is the Pokemon (card game) champion for the state of RI. Yes, we live in MA (but very close to the RI border) and he came in 4th in our state.

DS and DH play in a Pokemon league every other saturday night. Our son is not into sports and we are thrilled he found his own little niche and has something he can do with his Dad. The other weekend they had the state championships - saturday was MA and sun. was RI. We are missing the CT & NH ones since we will be in WDW.

For anyone who remembers any of my other threads about my DS, we have been having "issues" (don't want to say problems) with him for years. We finally have help for him in school and just last week he started counseling. He has low self-esteem issues and other learning issues even tho he tests very high. His psychologist is looking into aspergers, and is refering him to a pediatric psychiatrist - it's been a tough few years. ANYHOW...since Pokemon has come along he has found something to focus on. At first it was difficult for him for the social end, (he would come close to crying if he lost) but he has come a LONG way and for him to win the championship is quite an accomplishment. Really, when I opened the box and saw the trophy I cried! I can't wait for him to see it when he gets home from school! :)

Thanks DISers for the support you have given me in the past when I have posted about him. We do have a nice bunch of folks here!

Congratulations to your son! I know my sons have loved playing with their pokemon cards. It's interesting to hear that there are leagues out there.

WOW!! Tell your DS I said congratulations!!:bounce: :D

Now that is one very talented and dedicated Pokiemon player!!::yes::

Congratulations to your DS! My 10 yr old DS would be so jealous!;)

My kids would think your son is a hero. All they think about is Pokemon and Yugioh. Your son must love to play the game, and I think it's great that you and your husband support him.

Tell your son "way to go!!!" Both my boys love Pokemon and YuGiOh. My oldest DS9 played in a Pokemon league for awhile a couple of years ago. He still loves looking at his "badges" that he collected. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Sending a high five to your DS from Florida. Tell him way to go kiddo!!!!!!!!!!:bounce:

Forgot to add that the bird on his shoulder is one of our cockatiels - XATU - named after a legendary bird Pokemon, of course! :o

He was oh so happy when he got the trophy! DH had me wait until he got home so he could give it to him. :)

What a great start to your vacation...I see you have 3 days to go! :)

Awesome! Congratulations to you and your son, Jill! What a neat thing for him to have achieved!

Congratulations to your son! I saw your thread yesterday and I went home and told my 9 year old DD and 11 year old DS and they were so impressed! They were thrilled by the fact that Pokemon is played by people who live so far away (we live in Canada, near Toronto) !

Anyway, congrats once again! And what a great picture! That smile says it all!

Both my sons are drooling over the trophy. My 9 yr old has "challenged" him to a duel!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Thanks folks! :) I didn't know that Pokemon was still so popular with so many kids - most of the kids in DS' school have switched over to Yugi oh.

A funny thing happened during our last Disney trip in November....we were waiting to get in to the Magic Kingdom one morning and DS was playing a Pokemon game on his game boy - next to him was another boy playing the same game but in Japanese! He and his family were over from Japan and could barely speak english, but he and my son had fun comparing their games. Yes, it's a small world after all. :)

And piglet too...bring your DS over and the boys can duel! :)
