True - sometimes they just use if for exterior shots.I'm surprised they would even consider a real house. The Big Brother house is just a set in a studio. Trying to get proper lighting for TV in a house with 8 foot ceilings would be a challenge.
For example if you have every seen Father Ted - its mostly shot in a studio in England, but the exteriors are shot in Clare Ireland and they do an amazing job editing it all together.
People who visit the house are always disappointed its not the same inside, the folks (I think they were from the US) that bought it had no idea about the show until people were taking photos out front.
I think that is very common.
