A third person arrested for touching kids at a Disney Water Park

Go ahead and report me. If you don't think there is something wrong with a 15yo being molested for 5 years because he wasn't taught that this kind of thing can happen and how he should react and report to someone if it does I have no idea what this world is coming to.

If anyone is breaking the rules in this thread it is the people being so hateful and argumentative to me. I think you need to re-read the rules.

Rowbear I don't know who you are or if you are a parent but surely any rational thinking human being would know that no matter how much a parent teaches their child and prepares them for the what ifs, it doesn't mean that the child will always do what they were taught.

That is assuming she ever tried. Did she have role playing games with puppets or whatnot to educate the child on the kinds of tactics these predators use? Did she tell him on a regular basis if something were to ever happen it was not his fault and that it was okay to report? If he was worried that his sexuality was in question did she explain that it has nothing to do with that?

Or did she ignore it because she didn't think it would ever come up or because it was an uncomfortable discussion?

The boy is 15. He is fixing to get a driver's license. I don't know it just seems odd that he was being taught for years that something would not have come up.

Regardless this is my opinion. I may be way off base (I sort of doubt it) but you people don't have to be so nasty.

So to get back to the issue -

I wonder if these pervs go to Disney since it's generally seen by parents as a safe place and perhaps they think the parents won't keep as good a watch on the kids. That logic is of course flawed - you have to watch your kids wherever you are, including the Happiest Place on Earth.

I know other water parks in Orlando have experienced this as well this summer, but 3 instances at Typhoon Lagoon is very bothersome to me.

You make very good points. It can only be hoped that the parent taught the child how to protect himself. That very well could be the case. The child would have been 10 when it began. Predators are extremely vicious in what they tell children, and how they get the child to believe what they are saying.

Regardless of how well taught someone may be (to protect themselves) there are circumstances that can negate that training, or render it useless, or ineffective.

I hope you were never hurt as a child.

Well that was heart felt and aren't you just a little ray of Sunshine!

DWGal, I have no idea what goes on in these monsters heads :headache:

Yeah but kids wear parents out and so the parents are sitting at a table waiting while the child does the ride or slide for the billionth time and there may be places out of view. If it is happening at a particular park more they need to add more obvious surveillance.

There are obviously no guarantees. But I also wonder if she educated herself on what to look for. Surely there are books and things for this like there are for spotting drug abuse. So even if the boy ignored all the training perhaps she could have spotted some sort of warning sign.

It just seems to me that this should be easier to avoid than even child abduction but you hear about it so much it just makes you wonder if more could be done to prevent it.

More can always be done. However, do not discount that there are things beyond training, beyond control of the person being abused, and the person training someone to not be abused.

It's easy to blame, but the only culpable party here is the abuser. As the only culpable party to a murder is the person who commits the murder.

Everything else really is too close to blame the victim.

Your passion is palpable. I hope you use it to work on those social ills that matter the most to you.

Sooo, you are trying to say the mother failed?
She did not properly prepare ths child for the what ifs.
She failed in not being in the water with the child.
She failed in recognizing the true tails that he was being sought after.
She did not prepare him for real life.
Wow, she must be awful!
Do you have any kids Row?
