A technician will be there sometime between 8 and 5

Really....you couldn't narrow it down a bit for me. :sad2:

I got a 3 WEEK window for a cable repair once-we dropped cable after that one.

I understand an hour or two because somethings might take longer then expected but really 8-5 :confused3.

So now you're stuck waiting all day. I hate when they pull that. :headache:

Why do they do that? :confused3 At least give me morning or afternoon. I mean seriously!

I know, it's ridiculous. I have an install for Direct TV tomorrow. At least they gave me a 4 hour window.

I think this is pretty reasonable because they don't know where they will install your dish before they come out.

I NEVER wait around
I INSIST they call my cell 20 minutes before arriving_I can get home from town or work in that time frame

DirecTV may still have their on-time guarantee too.

A couple of years ago, I was given a 4-hour window to have my dish upgraded. The guy was supposed to arrive between 2-6pm. At 6:15pm, he still wasn't there and I hadn't heard, so I called about the time.

I got a $100 credit on my bill. The guy showed up at 6:30 and completed the work.

Hate those days :headache:

I never know if I want them at 8:05 or MUCH later...LOL
However, once it is done, it is done eh. Have lots of :surfweb:

The last time I needed the cable guy to come out to my house (tree fell on the wire and ripped it off the side of the house), they gave me a window of 7am to 7PM, four days after I called:rotfl: So on that day, I stayed home ALL day waiting. At 8PM, I called and asked "So where is he?" They told me oh, he called 3 times and was there at 4:00 but you weren't home. I went nuts on them...we were ALL home all day. It was not true what he said. Okay, so when will they reschedule? 3 more days away! :rotfl2: And they wonder why people hate the cable company???????

ooh, I've had that pulled on me before too. On that occasion, my car was in the shop, so I was stuck at home anyway and they tried to claim the technician had knocked for a while and no one answered. I cried all sorts of foul and they did manage to send someone out first thing the next morning. I hope they talked to the technician who lied to them and said he's come by and didn't.

Most of the time when that happens I call the place directly and ask if someone is available who can give me a smaller window. First answer is always no but then I ask if there is anyone there who might be familiar with where I am on the call list. Usually a dispatcher will get on the phone and tell me where I am on the list vs where the repair person is on the list. I never get a definite time but if the window is 8-6, and I'm 3rd on the list I can guess the approximate time. It's been my experience that everyone is very nice about it as long as I come at them with the attitude that I'm only looking to ballpark the time, not hold anyone firm to it.

I have to say I've been pretty lucky. Over the years I've needed service calls from both Comcast and AT&T and not only have they given me a 3-4 hour window, they show up the first 30 minutes of that window. Once they even showed up early and appoligized that it was before they said they'd be here!

Of course I work from home full time so I'm here anyway. I bet if I worked at an office full time and had to take time off, Murphy's law would have it that they'd never show up!

So he showed up shortly after noon. Turns out though that none of the jacks in the bedrooms work. The feed comes in through the kitchen jack (which works) but never makes it to the other 3.
I told the office and they are going to see what to do about it.

I have been very lucky with service people having to come out to the house. I always am given a 4 hour window, which I am fine with because you never know what could come up. Last time I was told 10-2... then the guy called at 9 to see if it would be okay if he came by early since another call had been canceled. No problem with me!

Same here. I tell them that I WON'T be home and to have the service guy call me 20 minutes prior. They say they can't guarantee it, but they've always managed to do it.

Sorry, I'm the customer - I WILL NOT be held hostage in my own home while I wait for you to provide a service of which I pay dearly for.

Yup...that's what I started doing. I told them unless they were going to pay my hourly salary they could call me when they finish up the job previous to mine and I will be there in 15 minutes but I will not wait around for hours, or in this case a day, for them.
