I met a pin trader and she was afraid.
This story is in most parts accurate I changed it slightly to hide the identity of the pin traders involved, its a nice story in the end.
We went to Disney to trade and to meet people, Michelle and I end up in a water fight but that was beside the point.
We met a nice lady she did not have a pin bag she had her pins in a shoebox, to the average pin trader this was a beginner, most of the traders would have blown the person off You got nothing away with you and yon shoebox.
This person had very good things in her box (shoebox sickies). We did our usual where are you from, you know start the communication thing going, she told us where she was from, looked at our pins we looked at her box, we all had a good time the kiss my white bu%^ statement was used, and a good time was had by all.
Nothing strange to report except this person who looked like an amateur was looking for her holy grail hmmm an amateur knows of holy grails, why she speaks the pin language thats good yes? And her grail The Haunted Mansion Dangler Hold the phone buddy your no amateur youre a pro. More than that she later informed us that she lied about where she was from, and that she was one of those CM people. Mind you I dont think, in fact I know this person was not a shark, she was in fact very nice and we even pointed her towards another person who could help her get the holy grail they so much seeked.
This was in my opinion yet another example of the Im scared of you people syndrome. I have many CM friends that collect pins. I know many that no longer collect pins because of mishaps along the way.
These are just a few of the reasons why some of my CM friends dont trade anymore all are true.
#1 they find out Im a CM and all of a sudden they want me to trade CM pins for their pins.
#2 they find out Im a CM and they want me to get them pins from Company D.
#3 I had them find out where I worked in the parks and they showed up and asked for pins.
#4 because I would not trade with a person while off duty, they reported me to my manager the next day as being rude.
#5 I was stalked by a pin trader. (true story I had a friend of mine literally stalked, they had to get their phone number changed thats how bad it got)
See some CMs think its neat that they have Cast pins and proudly tell you they are a CM. Some CMs are scared to death to tell you they are a CM because of what might happen. I trade with people regardless of what they have, and just because they have cast pins it does not mean that they are CMs I have lots of cast pins Im not a CM, but I play one on TV.
Im not hurt that this person lied about where they were from, or who they were, and what park they worked at. I was happier about the fact that after they got to know us they told us the truth, that at least lets me know that I made an impression on them enough for them to trust me.
Simple truth is
People are afraid of pin traders, you know those nuts with 20 bags of pins that will eat your children and spit out their lanyards baron of pins, they will trade their mother for an auction pin, and will sell their soul for WET PAINT, or MICKEY FOR PRESIDENT. They speak in code holy grail, happy pin dance, CM exclusive, LE of what. They have special meetings in dark unlit places, carry magnifying glasses, special lighting, and travel in wolf packs like U-boats.
There are those that just in it for the trade of a better than they have pin, they always want to trade up, they come up to you and say just a few phrases. May I see your pins, here look through mine and see if theres something in there you need, whats the LE on this, is this rack or LE. They trade and they are gone.
After each trade ask yourself these simple questions.
Do you know this persons name?
Do you know where they are from?
If youre in it for the sake of the pins fine, thats your thing, but above it all kids have fun. I like pin trading because I get to meet people and have a good time. I collect oddball stuff so more than likely most will not have what I want. Im not afraid to say no Im sorry thats not really a fair trade, but I will let anybody look at my book regardless of age. Creed. Religion, or whether they have pins or not. Who knows they might have a Haunted Mansion in their pocket. Remember Howard Hughes used to walk around towns dressed like a bum to see who would help, or avoid him Those that helped him got some surprisingly large checks.
