A story of renewed hope & the power of Dis

:welcome: you are NOT stalking this is how we all begin,,lurking and then finally come down off the Dis balcony :thumbsup2

I have been patiently waiting for you to show up :surfweb: :rolleyes1 I've "seen"
you here and there That's okay I understand you wanted to save the BEST for last ! What you will not get here: sewing tips, pictures of amazing designed projects, recipes, or ever an invite for a DisMeet in another state I am NOT talented in any domestic Goddess way, wish I were but my calling is all about the animals as I'm sure you have already figured out :goodvibes

What you will get here" trials & tribulations: aw just real life stuff encompassing almost 6 decades of life, lots of prayers asking for and giving,
my personal experiences as a guest to WDW over 30 years, lots of drama and reassurances, and ALWAYS a DisMeet invite in the most magical place in the world, you will laugh & you will cry, and sometimes you will laugh so hard you will cry ...so if you're in post about yourself or just say "hi" buckle your seatbelt and you just may want to stock up on Depends ;)

Ruthie

I'm looking forward to it, pee and all :rotfl2:

As the two of you are communicating by PM, I gather that the mini DisMeet isn't going to happen this weekend because of the weather.

I am counting on seeing a picture of your DisMeet at some stage.

Hi princess:PIO :goodvibes we have elevated our friendship to email..God I must be a glutton for punishment :scared::lmao: seriously Have to meet Ed and Oct is just too far away ! When we do though believe me you will be the first to know :thumbsup2

Okay, I need an opinion and you seem like a GREAT person to go to. :worship:

:goodvibes first I feel I need to give a little back-story. We are planning our first trip EVER to WDW. But, we are a single income family with young kids....BROKE!!!! Sooooo, we are saving up for about two years to make this thing happen. My mom is going and she and I are quite obsessed with disney all of the sudden (well, mine is recent.....she has always been a little ) haha, anyways....

We are having a very hard time waiting until next Oct to go, especially since we have already planned so much. (getting to the point.....eventually) :rotfl:

I was thinking of trying to work out a small weekend trip for her and I and possibly my 7 y/o before our BIG trip next year. I do NOT want to spoil the excitement of everyone going together for their first time though. Plus it would have to be a CHEAP vaca.......can't take too much from the saving for Oct. So I was thinking maybe we could just resort hop and check out DTD. Get a lay of the land so to speak without going into the parks. Is this crazy? :scratchin

Please give me advice, any is welcome!

hmm let me see I was 28 years old a single MOM of DD #1 (8 yrs old) and DD # 2 (6 yrs old)

FT worker as an EMT and FT college student graduated that May with HIGH hopes of becoming a cop was on the next list to enter NYPD academy that fall ( Oh that is so a long story for another time ) didn't even know Fred

WDW was in the back of my mind BUT not really even on the radar screen
and just for laughs see pic...forgive the quality it was the 1980s the polaroid spit the picture out right there Oh modern technology ..remember polaroids Ed ??

First time we actually went early 80's we stayed at Ft Wilderness cabins..still so dear to me now I am searching for some pictures I don't think we took many we were so excited to be there we didn't care about that I DO remember didn't tell the girls just put them in the back of a Hyundai Excel (small small car) and started driving down from NY pretended we were taking Fred to work in NJ They caught on real quick I can still see their little eyeballs in the rearview mirror on the way home they were so stuffed in the back with all the stuff we had bought ! and the adventure we had on that road trip too funny !

How about 40 years ago. Man that sounds old. :rotfl2: The first time I went to anything Disney was at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964/65. Then it was no long after the MK opened in 71 when we went back. We were living in Pompano Beach at that time. Just over 3 hours to the parks from there. There was nothing from I-4 to 192 back then. It was just pitch black. You could see the top of the castle from I-4 back then.

We were there too NY Worlds fair we lived so close to it and I always remember as the sphere is still there! I remember my Dad pushing a little car stroller with the younger kids in it we had always loved Mickey of course and we loved the COP ! Still a MUST do for me at MK WDW opened when I was in 11th grade and with a family of 5 it might has well have opened in China we could never afford to go there

First of all congrats on getting a BOG ressie for Christmas Day!!! I would LOVE that! I will join the many here who have been stalking for BOG ressies. That's the down side to planning a trip impromptu. I did get a CRT ressie that Dan doesn't know about. That will be a first for us. As will Chef Mickey! Can't wait for that one. Although, if you don't mind, I'll keep trying for an earlier time for that one. I figure I'll have about as much chance of scoring that as scoring BOG, but still, I will try.

Also, love all of Ed's photos. Since you like seeing the park empty, here's one I took last year at MK:

Ruthie, I love the photo of you and the girls. Emily and the grandbabies just left about 1/2 hour ago. We had a wonderful 3 weeks with them, but now I have to get ready for Dan's cousins from California who will be staying with us for a week or so. I'm really tired, but in a good way.

Hope the bad weather goes away really soon. My neighbor is down there right now, so hope she and her family are having fun and are able to make the most of the weather. Have a great day and a better week. I'll be cleaning....

WOW Ruthie, you certainly had a lot going on 31 years ago huh? yikes. That is some feat! I love that photo of you with the girls.

Hyundai in the early 80's?? I didn't realize they had been around that long. hmmm

40 years ago? That is about when I started telling my mom IF she stopped smoking our family could afford to go. (thank you to my health teacher. I'm sure mom just LOVED her for that. hehehe)

I vaguely remember going to a Worlds Fair in NY. But I don't think it was 64/65, I would be way to young to remember that. did they have one in like 68/69 in NY as well?

Chef Mickeys breakfast? The early ones are tough, BUT are attainable some times. I have had better luck getting the ones earlier, than at 9-lunch.

it took me a couple minutes to figure out where this is. I don't think I have EVER seen it when it was empty. it's such a bottle neck area. Nice picture!

No you are remembering incorrectly as am I also :lmao:

NY State Worlds Fair was 1939 ( don't think you were there !) and 1964/1965

here's a cool link : and for those knowing NOTHING about the fair OR Queens NY in general if you go to the link you will see the "sphere" I referred to looks like the planet OH more trivia the opening of the TV Show "King of Queens" showed this and YES I will admit to sounding like "Carrie" from that show with a little Brooklyneese thrown in for good measure :goodvibes

Now for the part I am remembering wrong was the year we first went it was not early 80s but mid...1985 to be exact as thats the year the Hyundai Excel first came out ( bing is my friend why google like everyone else ? LOL ) and I bought it new...probably 4 0r 5 grand stripped no a/c even but it was an accomplishment for me cash money no car loan I was so proud ! Yes busy times

Fred & I met 1983 but got married 1986 I put him off thought he was a fool...yeah well ....

ah the joys of getting older they say the memory is the first thing to go

Something to share. a few months ago my DD had Maleficent done on her left calf. 2 days ago now has Figment on the right. I think they look great although I would have not had them done that big.

CRT surprise thats great and yes I am still thrilled about the BOG aren't we just the perfect secret planners around here..I did tell Fred yesterday he MUST tell the company that since they asked and he gave them last Christmas this is a MUST for home time He's being smart and telling them Dec 23 home and leave again Dec 26...to avoid any delays.Dee is setting a good example for sneaky planning Bravo Dee!

Chef Mickey yes PLEASE keep trying for earlier, I doubt it but you never know, the date is wonderful and works best for me so if you can get that grab it anytime ! Dinner though agreed? Even I can't have breakfast there more than once a year :lmao: Glad you mentioned it as I was still trying too, I won't now though just let me know so that if you get it I can cancel the other one

And Ruthie it looks like you are getting the same crappy weather I am getting. Geez. I am ready for this to stop.
