More about us in the aptly named
‘About Us’ post below.

We were recently at Walt Disney World from February 12th – 26th 2020!

Our plans were a bit more complex this year, so I’ll make a separate post about that too.
Also aptly named,
‘The Plan’. I am very creative.
But basically, this feels like two completely separate trips in one to me, so I’ll be splitting it into part 1 and part 2.
All will become clear, I promise.

I can’t wait to relive all of the laughs we had this year :goodvibes

So let’s go to Disney!!!

About Us!

I haven’t done an ‘about us’ post in a while, so let’s do this!

Katie

My name is Katie, and I’m a Disney World addict.
“Hiiii Katieee”

50564822871_1ccaa7fed1_c.jpg

I’m 28 years old and I work in medical research and clinical trials.
I love my job! I’ve made some of my best friends there, and I’m currently missing my office while I work from home due to COVID-19!
Outside of lockdown, I also play netball and I play the piano.
I love cooking, baking, country walks and country music, musicals, and nights in with friends, cheese, wine and movies!

these-are-a-few-of-my-favorite-things-gif-3.gif

I first travelled to Walt Disney World in the mid-90s when I was 4 years old.
I had so many great trips with my mum, aunt, uncle and cousins, staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside (Dixie Landings as it's still known within my family!)
Every trip was filled with laughter and silliness (and beer pitchers in River Roost whilst watching Yehaa Bob!)
I have the best memories of those childhood vacations and I truly believe that they shaped me as a person.

tenor.gif

I also went to Disneyland Paris a bunch of times growing up, both with family and friends!
We live in the U.K. so Disneyland Paris is our ‘local’ park, and it’s great for a short getaway!

Then cut to 2010.
I’m 18 years old, and I meet this guy…

Jamie

50554715608_39752a48f4_b.jpg

Jamie and I actually went to the same school ever since we were just little nippers (since I was 4 and he was 6).
He was good friends with my cousin so I knew of him, although he probably had no idea who I was in school.
I just knew him because he was an “older boy” :rotfl:
I’m sure if you’re of the female species, your high-school-self can relate

ImaginativeFavorableGreatdane-size_restricted.gif

Anyway, one day when I was 18 we ran into each other in our home town and started chatting, and I told him that I was moving away for university in a few weeks.
And AS IF BY FATE, he told me he was moving from his current uni, to the exact same city as me!
What are the chances!

tenor.gif

We agreed to hang out once we’d both moved up there, as it would be nice to see a familiar face.
And 9 years later, here we are!

8LBh.gif

Jamie had never been to a Disney Park before I came along :faint:
We first went in September 2012, and stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, of course!
My old stomping grounds.
We had such an awesome time, we kept going back again and again, and on our 2019 trip, after being together for 8 years, Jamie asked me to marry him!

giphy.gif

He popped the question on a swing bench by the lake outside the Beach Club :cloud9:
It was just fantastic.
We celebrated that night with our best friends by drinking A LOT in World Showcase and Jellyrolls :drinking1

We’re supposed to be getting married in September 2020, although things are a bit uncertain at the moment since our whole country is currently on lockdown!
Ugh, it’s just a little global pandemic, it should be fine right?

tumblr_oq2to5wzCn1uy3noqo1_400.gifv

(EDIT: We’re cancelled :sad2:
But with a sense of perspective, it’s fine and it’s the safest thing to do for all of our guests, including at-risk and elderly guests.
So now our wedding is re-scheduled for August 2021!)

Anyway, this current trip in February 2020 marks our seventh trip together!

Here are some of our Disney favourites!

It turns out we have a lot of the same favourites, how convenient!

The Plan

We did things a little differently this year!

Part 1

For part 1 of our trip, Jamie and I were lucky enough to be able to live as locals!

If you read my last trip report you’ll know that we travelled with two of our best friends, Rob and Fran last year.
Well, when Rob’s sister had her first baby recently, their parents Lin and Ian had the greatest reaction to becoming new grandparents EVER.
They decided to buy a new house, right next door to Walt Disney World!!
:rotfl:

giphy.gif

But for real.
The coolest mom (/grandparents) ever.

Lin and Ian actually planned this trip, and they were so sweet to invite Jamie and I along with them and Rob and Fran!!
We get along so great with Lin and Ian, we have so much fun bowling and playing board games with them back home :goodvibes

50555588177_a125087617_b.jpg

Their house is a six-bedroom house in the Encore neighbourhood at Reunion.
We loved it there, it was like we lived at Disney!

The house is actually a rental property while they’re back in the UK, so anyone can stay there!

50555587742_3238dafe36_b.jpg

50555587537_59d5304924_b.jpg

Rob and Fran would be flying to Florida a few days earlier than us, so they were spending a full two weeks at the house.
We were originally going to be joining them for the last nine days, then flying home with them.
But we wanted to make our trip a full two weeks too…!

Part 2

You probably figured this out from the title of this trip report…
But part 2 of this trip involved Jamie and I spending five nights at the Sugar Loaf Club Level of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa!

:scared1:

50554733373_4696ed2343_c.jpg

The Disney resorts fangirl in me is screaming! :cool1:

I honestly don’t remember how we spiralled so hard into staying at the Grand Floridian’s Sugar Loaf Club.
I think it was because we saved so much money on accommodation for the first part of the trip, we thought we might as well blow all of those savings by staying at the Grand Floridian for a few days

tumblr_phwwkxKY3B1u9qgcf_540.gif

It was so dreamy.
I absolutely adored this hotel stay!
If you’ve read my previous reports you might know how much I love Disney hotels. :cloud9:

We stayed at the Grand Floridian in 2014 and I loved it, so I was thrilled to get to experience one of their club levels for the first time!

Although, I don’t know if we really fit in at the Grand, Jamie is far too badly behaved…

:lmao:

SO.
Here’s an overview of the plan with dates!

Part 1

Saturday 8th February: Rob, Fran, Lin and Ian fly to Orlando

Wednesday 12th February: Jamie and I fly to Orlando

Monday 17th February: Lin and Ian fly to Dallas (where they used to live)

Wednesday 19th February: Lin and Ian fly back to Orlando!

Part 2

Friday 21st February: Lin and Ian prepare the house for their daughter and granddaughter to arrive, Rob and Fran fly home, and Jamie and I move to Disney’s Grand Floridian!

Wednesday 26th February: Jamie and I fly home.

Don’t worry, it took me a while to get my head around it too
It all worked out perfectly though, with all of us getting to hang out together in different groups.

OK, got it?
No?
Oh well!
We must press on!

Hello there! Random TR reader who just likes reading TR's, and I have to say that yours are some of my favorites!

Also, am I first for the first time ever??!?!?!?!?

Pre-Trip Travel!

This post is just to provide some context for future me, as I like to remember what was going on in life around the time of each of our Disney trips.
Plus, I REALLY need to reminisce about what life was like pre-COVID.

In the 6 months before COVID struck, we probably travelled enough to make up for the whole of lockdown 2020!
Somehow in the space of 6 months we managed to visit:

Berlin, Germany (August 2019)
Tuscany, Italy (September 2019)
Tromsø, Norway (January 2020)
and
Orlando, Florida (February 2020)!

So, six months after my Feb 2019 Disney trip report ended, me, Jamie, Rob, Fran and a bunch of other friends went to
Berlin, Germany in August!
Look at us all mask-less!

50555468561_100771cc92_b.jpg

50554737168_4079cc6efe_c.jpg

Then in September 2019, the four of us and a different bunch of friends went to
Tuscany, Italy!
This was for Jamie and Rob’s friends’ wedding, and the two of them were groomsmen!
The groom lives in Australia, and a fourth friend lives in San Francisco (edit: now Colorado!), so it was really special for them all to get together :goodvibes

50554743613_b8e7bb8cd9_c.jpg

50555605542_38149bb76f_c.jpg

But by far my favourite trip of them all was
Tromsø, Norway at the end of January 2020!
Tromsø is so far north, it’s technically the Arctic!

50555604857_2d13e72a79_c.jpg

This trip was a birthday gift from me to Jamie for turning the big 3-0!!
We went for a long weekend from Thursday 23rd – Monday 27th January 2020.

This was right before we went to Florida.
Like 2-3 weeks before we go!

Here I am at our usual airport hotel, but in a different kind of travel outfit!

50555469396_ebafd301ef_c.jpg

When we checked into the airport hotel on the night before our flight, we figured out that in exactly 3 weeks’ time we would be checking OUT of the same hotel to catch our flight to Florida!

Anyway, here are a few of my favourite pictures from our pre-Florida Norway trip.
There are a bunch more on my Instagram
@katiebearjamboree if you’re interested!

50555604967_a89107e1b7_c.jpg

If you visit Tromso in late January like we did, you’ll get about 3 or 4 hours of daylight each day!
It’s just dusky most of the time, until it gets completely dark.
As night owls, we loved this :thumbsup2

50555469931_6a75d00f08_b.jpg

We went to a reindeer camp!

50555606522_b296009ac5_b.jpg

50554738513_d2db22e020_b.jpg

And we went dog sledding!

50554738328_44d75b58e0_b.jpg

50554737773_3fd54700c3_c.jpg

We also went on a Northern Lights boat tour!
The lights are actually very hard to photograph so it’s hard to get those professional looking shots, but we got to see them which was all that mattered!

50561495567_ffbfa10bcd_o.jpg

On this Northern Lights boat tour we got to lie out on this netting under blankets with the water rushing by right underneath us!
So cool!

50555469536_d0e9d7fdb4_b.jpg

Look Epcot fans!
Real authentic school bread!
Or should I say, Skolebrød.

50554738173_0cd1bf111f_b.jpg

We also took the Tromsø Fjellheisen cable car up an INSANELY steep mountain, and did a snowy hike :lovestruc

50561495662_47fd3f1de9_c.jpg

Oh my goodness, I loved it here so much.
Dare I say I loved it almost as much as I love Walt Disney World…
Almost, not quite.
Norway just seems to be doing everything right, it’s such a cool place.
I hear that Disney Cruise Line do a Norwegian sailing which is now my absolute dream.
Watch this space, I want to make it happen!

OK, I think I’m actually ready to start this trip report now.

Day 0
Tuesday 11th February 2020
Part 1 - I’ve Nailed Up My Door I’ll See You Around!

OK.
PHEW.
I’ll actually start this trip report now
I just love a bit of background context when I look back on my reports, you know?!

So.
We made it back from Norway on Monday 27th January.
At that point, two weeks from tomorrow, I would be working my last day at work, packing up the last of our things, and dashing to the airport late on the night of Tuesday 11th February!

Rob, Fran, Lin and Ian flew to Orlando on Saturday 8th Feb!
We were messaging back and forth loads while they were there, I couldn’t wait to join them!

If you’re new around here, Rob, Fran, Jamie and I are in a group chat called Come In Star Command, where we’re each nicknamed the following:

Me: Woody
Fran: Buzz
Rob: Forky

Jamie: Little Bo Peep

They got to ride the brand new Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure!
Rob gave it a glowing review…

50555485596_6a5f9352ef_c.jpg

Rob claimed to love the Swiss Family Treehouse last year :lmao:

50555485576_8e3da93849_c.jpg

Eek I was so excited.
Although just like last year, there was snow forecast for most of the week, which was concerning.
Especially as we had to drive through some scary country roads at night-time to get to the airport.
The UK completely devolves into chaos when it snows.
Which is annoying after our plane to Norway was able to land in a literal blizzard in the Arctic a couple of weeks ago :rolleyes2

Britain in the snow:

giphy.gif

Versus Norway in the snow:

tenor.gif

I packed my suitcase mostly on Monday night, then I worked 8am-4pm on Tuesday.
Sadly, Tuesday would be my last day working with my friend Louisa :sad2:
(As seen in my earlier Berlin photos – with the short blonde hair.)
Lou and I met through Fran a few years ago and we’ve all been great friends since.
The two of us studied and worked in similar fields, so I was so thrilled when she got a job in my department!
The best part was, there were a number of different offices Lou could’ve been seated in, but as fate would have it, not only did she end up in my office, she was seated right next to me at the same desk
We had such a laugh as desk buddies, she honestly made me look forward to going into work every day.
But sadly while I was in Florida, Lou would be moving on to greater things, starting her PhD

giphy.gif

So we had a mopey day.
…even though she was only moving one floor downstairs in the same building :rotfl:

She wrote me a goodbye poem

50554754918_6fd4c1bde7_c.jpg

Boooo.
Sorry that was way off tangent.
But that was a significant day in my life so it needed documenting.

ANYWAY.

I got my eyelashes done on my lunch break on Tuesday.
I loved how they came out!

50554755113_cd07586d21_z.jpg

50555486766_5467bec040_z.jpg

And after work I got my nails done.
BLACK LIKE MY SOUL.

50554754828_45b6b4c338_c.jpg

I got home and finished packing.
Including these babies.

50555622417_d0a2f15d53_c.jpg

Then at 8pm Jamie and I drove to the airport!

giphy.gif

We listened to music and talked about Disney food.
Jamie was so excited for Sanaa and Whispering Canyon
I pulled up the menus on my phone and we planned out exactly what we were going to have for those meals
Jamie even said that Sanaa is his favourite meal that he’s ever had!

We sent regular updates in our group chat with Rob and Fran, including a video of us driving through the darkness, jamming to Walk This Way by Aerosmith :drive:

We arrived at the airport just after 9pm!
We dropped our car at Terminal 2, then went to check in at the Radisson Blu hotel, which is attached to the airport!
I love waking up on travel day and walking 5 minutes to the check in desk, rather than battling two hours of early morning rush hour :goodvibes

Here’s the Skylink walkway, which connects the hotel to the different airport terminals.

50555622072_b4a550cb96_b.jpg

Happy boy!

50555621507_74df260eff_b.jpg

We had a plane view… :thumbsup2

50554754588_bfef13fc01_b.jpg

Also here is the duffle bag that Fran got me for my birthday!

50554753978_a256c7332d_b.jpg

tumblr_n4smld3oNZ1s2wio8o1_500.gif

I love it!

We put our bags in the room and walked over to Terminal 1.
We wanted to eat at Joe’s Kitchen, and the website said it was open until 11pm.
But when we got there is was completely empty and the kitchen was closed :confused3
Oh well.

We headed back to the hotel and ate at the usual Little M Bar.

While we waited for our food Jamie kept trying to make me eat a single chili flake but I was too scared
Spicy things make me cough.

50555486081_e1f94f895e_c.jpg

We each got a pizza and diet coke and we shared some onion rings.
My pizza was OK, but it didn’t have any tomato on it?!?!
I always just assume a pizza will have tomato on it…
How odd!

50555621667_40f306c7aa_c.jpg

While we ate we went through the list of the films that would be on our flight, and we messaged with Rob and Fran.

Here’s some context into our lives that’s relevant here, and will also be relevant for something fantastic that happened tomorrow :thumbsup2

I’ll just quote myself from my last trip report:

“Short backstory – you might have seen from our group chat that we sometimes call Jamie ‘The Gull’.
This originated from a time when the four of us were at our local cinema.
I was holding a mini brownie up near my face ready to eat, but I was distracted for a few seconds talking to Fran, and when I wasn’t looking Jamie SWOOPED IN and just wrapped his whole mouth around my brownie (and fingers) and snatched it from me

Fran was completely outraged by this behaviour, and crowned him “THE GULL”
And now that’s all she calls him.
I haven’t heard her call him Jamie in months, he’s just “Gull” or “The Gull”.
Sometimes Gulliver.”

tenor.gif

50555485506_da02e12d91_c.jpg

:rotfl:

Fran sent us a picture and I noticed that coincidentally we’d both had our nails done in black :cool2:

50555621552_d7e92d0d28_c.jpg

200.gif

This time tomorrow…

50555621932_459577880b_c.jpg

Eeeek!

We finished up our late dinner and headed back to the room.
I logged into my work emails as I’d forgotten to send an email earlier.
Then I set my ‘Out Of Office’!
Isn’t that the best feeling ever?!
“Yes, I am ignoring you, please bother someone else”.

In the room we had tea and biscuits and watched Love Island, how very British of us.

LegalQueasyAbyssiniancat-small.gif

We went to sleep at around midnight, with our alarms set for 6am!

Goodnight!

Popping over from your last TR. I can't remember if I congratulated you on your engagement - so just in case - CONGRATULTIONS! I took a Dis break for a month or so and just now catching up . Looking forward to reading more about your adventures.

I am very creative.
Such creativity in this TR. Prepared.
My name is Katie, and I’m a Disney World addict.
“Hiiii Katieee”
I read that like Bad-Anon in Wreck-it-Ralph. :lmao:
We had such an awesome time, we kept going back again and again, and on our 2019 trip, after being together for 8 years, Jamie asked me to marry him!
I am very late on this, but congrats!
Don’t worry, it took me a while to get my head around it too
So did mine. But then the ToC came out and it made sense. Therefore we charge on.
Look at us all mask-less!
SCANDAL!

Of course, this was BC (Before Covid), so not really.

But still!
The lights are actually very hard to photograph so it’s hard to get those professional looking shots, but we got to see them which was all that mattered!
Well it still looks really good!
I hear that Disney Cruise Line do a Norwegian sailing which is now my absolute dream.
DO IT. DCL is the best thing that Disney has offered, and the customer service is not just the best in the Cruise industry. Not just the travel industry. BUT THE WHOLE UNITED STATES. Do it if you have the money.
Versus Norway in the snow:

That drift tho.
BLACK LIKE MY SOUL.
Very contrasting to what I've seen otherwise.
Then at 8pm Jamie and I drove to the airport!

Muppets! We have a cat named Beaker because when he adopted, his hair was very much like Beaker's hair
My pizza was OK, but it didn’t have any tomato on it?!?!
I always just assume a pizza will have tomato on it…
How odd!
Time for a CT lesson. White pizza is actually quite common here on the East Coast, especially in the Northeast. A specialty in my area is White Clam Pizza, which has very little cheese, a lot of garlic, and little clams. I've heard its good, but I haven't tried it, so... :confused3
He looks very enthused.
Glad to have you here!
Thanks! Glad to be here as well. Can't wait for more!

How amazing to have that in your backyard!!!

Plus, I REALLY need to reminisce about what life was like pre-COVID.
I barely remember what life was like pre-COVID....

Real authentic school bread!
Or should I say, Skolebrød.
So, how did it stand up to the EPCOT version? I have never had it as I am not a fan of coconut.

I’ll actually start this trip report now
I just love a bit of background context when I look back on my reports, you know?!
I loved all of it! I feel like we really get to know everyone on these trip reports! And I loved all of the photos for your other trips!

My pizza was OK, but it didn’t have any tomato on it?!?!
I always just assume a pizza will have tomato on it…
How odd!

This is why I usually don't order white pizzas. I love tomatoes and tomatoe sauce too much to not have it. But they alwasy looks so good.

Fran sent us a picture and I noticed that coincidentally we’d both had our nails done in black :cool2:

You are so lucky to have a friend so like minded and to love Disney as much as you! Can't wait to hear about the trip!

Loving your pre trip travel! So glad you got to do some fun travel before lockdown. We were luck that we went to both Paris (with a lil trip to DLP of course) and Milan in 2019 so we had had two holidays to make up for our 2020 trips to Florence and Florida being cancelled :guilty:
Okay, now back to reading the rest!

Yay for another TR! I just finished reading your 2019 report and jumped on over. I was actually in WDW February 27-March 1, so I totally get that weird feeling of being there right before everything exploded.

Your TRs are always so much fun, and I can't wait to read all about your adventure! :D

:lmao:
I remember those.
Also aptly named, ‘The Plan’. I am very creative.
That's brilliant!!! My God... what if everyone used all their brains like that? World hunger? pfft. Thing of the past! War? Just a bad memory.
My name is Katie, and I’m a Disney World addict.
“Hiiii Katieee”
I also play netball
Which is... what?
We’re supposed to be getting married in September 2020
Oh!
(EDIT: We’re cancelled :sad2:
But with a sense of perspective, it’s fine and it’s the safest thing to do for all of our guests, including at-risk and elderly guests.
So now our wedding is re-scheduled for August 2021!)
Summer wedding. :)
Disney wedding??
magical cookie bar from the Wilderness Lodge
noooooooo...
If lost at Disney World.. Look for me at: Resorts and restaurants!
Ah yes. That greatly narrows it down.
If lost at Disney World.. Look for me at: Designing cars at Test Track, cuddling giant plush toys, eating turkey sandwiches at Be Our Guest.
See? This is a much more sensible plan for finding someone.
They decided to buy a new house, right next door to Walt Disney World!!
:faint:
The Disney resorts fangirl in me is screaming! :cool1:
I honestly don’t remember how we spiralled so hard into staying at the Grand Floridian’s Sugar Loaf Club.
I think it was because we saved so much money on accommodation for the first part of the trip, we thought we might as well blow all of those savings by staying at the Grand Floridian for a few days
Disney math. ::yes:: :teacher:
Plus, I REALLY need to reminisce about what life was like pre-COVID.
Was there such a thing? It's been so long...
Somehow in the space of 6 months we managed to visit:

Berlin, Germany (August 2019)
Tuscany, Italy (September 2019)
Tromsø, Norway (January 2020)
and
Orlando, Florida (February 2020)!
Wow! Impressive!
This is so sad. This is what it looks like now:
550530
But by far my favourite trip of them all was Tromsø, Norway at the end of January 2020!
Tromsø is so far north, it’s technically the Arctic!
Cool!
We went to a reindeer camp!
Done that. :)
And we went dog sledding!
Did that too. I mostly looked at the dogs and not the scenery!
We also went on a Northern Lights boat tour!
The lights are actually very hard to photograph so it’s hard to get those professional looking shots, but we got to see them which was all that mattered!
Nice. In all the years (about 8) that I lived up north, I never tried to photograph them.
You want to know why?
I have no idea!!
On this Northern Lights boat tour we got to lie out on this netting under blankets with the water rushing by right underneath us!
So cool!
Cool!

The UK completely devolves into chaos when it snows.
Which is annoying after our plane to Norway was able to land in a literal blizzard in the Arctic a couple of weeks ago :rolleyes2
I can relate to that.
But sadly while I was in Florida, Lou would be moving on to greater things, starting her PhD
How rude! She should stay at her desk with you.
I got my eyelashes done on my lunch break on Tuesday.
I loved how they came out!
Very pretty!
And after work I got my nails done.
BLACK LIKE MY SOUL.
:scared:
I pulled up the menus on my phone and we planned out exactly what we were going to have for those meals
I do that as well and... then I get to the restaurant and the server tells me the special and I eat that instead.
We had a plane view… :thumbsup2
Just a plane ol' view. Nothing special...
Also here is the duffle bag that Fran got me for my birthday!
Love it.
We wanted to eat at Joe’s Kitchen, and the website said it was open until 11pm.
But when we got there is was completely empty and the kitchen was closed :confused3
Ah, but what day is it open until 11pm, hmmmm????
My pizza was OK, but it didn’t have any tomato on it?!?!
I always just assume a pizza will have tomato on it…
How odd!
Now I find that odd. I would never expect tomatoes on a pizza unless I specifically asked for it.
Tomato sauce? Yes. Tomatoes? No.
Fran sent us a picture and I noticed that coincidentally we’d both had our nails done in black :cool2:
Of course. You're friends. Ergo you both have black souls. Totally logical.
Then I set my ‘Out Of Office’!
Isn’t that the best feeling ever?!
“Yes, I am ignoring you, please bother someone else”.
I wouldn't know. I get up, walk out of the building and don't look back.
I get the best feeling after every shift.
You joining my trip report...
