A Split Stay Dilemma

We're currently booked with a package at WL for 6 nights in Jan/Feb. We want to stay 7 nights, but the last night of our stay wasn't available when we booked, and it still hasn't opened up. We have a standard booked, and we'd be glad to add one room-only night standard, woods, or courtyard, but nothing except the $450 a night deluxe room is available.
Anyway, we're now thinking about adding the last night at a Value resort since I'm not sure WL is going to open up, plus it would save a little money since we just decided to add dining. So how much of a pain would it be to check out of WL, send the bags to POP (how does that work exactly?), go to the park for the day, then check in at POP for one night? We'll have an 18 month old, and I know going from WL to POP might be a little, um, disappointing ;) , but is it worth the trouble? We really want to add that 7th night.

Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Check out the DVC rent/trade board. It might seem a little daunting at first but, the people there will help you figure out how everything works. See if you can find a DVC member who has a room booked at the WL for the extra night and see if you can rent their reservation from them. If you can find someone who has a reservation already then it would use: 12 points in January or 13 points during Feb. 1-15.

Points generally rent for $10 per point so, you would pay $120-$130 for the one night! I bet that is not much more than the value resorts and much better!

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this process or if you need some help looking for a reservation! Good Luck!

We stayed in a value our first night on our trip last march before 6 nights at CSR and we stayed our last night at the Dolphin after 6 nights at POR. We do not like the split stay and will not do it again. It takes time to check in and you are out of your room from 11 to 3 or 4 on the moving day and we found we wanted to use our room to rest or change clothes during that time. For us we have decided to stay at one resort only each trip. We had a car and transferred our luggage ourselves..but there was a mix up at the dolphin and we waited quite a while in our room for them to deliver the luggage to our room. Many people love the split stay but it is just not for us!

We split stay all the time. It has never been a hardship for us. You just call bell services and they take care of everything for you.
