A signature dinner a day keeps the doctor away Dlxddp August 2010: upd FFish 10/10

I've just joined and spent hours reading dining reviews but this is my first post! Your reviews are brilliant and the pictures are making me very, very hungry!

I have Cali Grill booked for my last night in December and I can't wait! It looks soooo yummy! I've wanted to eat there for years but didn't do and TS when I was there last month...I'm starting to realise how much I missed out on!

I think in December last year, Bob was my server, as well. I know I had a Tom and a Bob. One was at Flying Fish. One was at Narcoossee's and Tom sticks out in my head better there than the Flying Fish.

I also agree that Grand Floridian Cafe is the best 1TS place in Disney and a true hidden gem.

Oh my, I missed the start of this ...............

I am so in - and now need to go to work, but I will come back to read it all tonight! Will so NOT help with the "post Disney Diet". :lmao:

Can't wait to hear all about it!

I've just caught up with your reviews. Dh wants to try captains grille next year so your review was really helpful as I wasn't to keen previously.

California grill looks good and the pina colada looks delicious!

Okay, all caught up by now!

We dropped YS as well :lmao:, and I am completely on your side, when it comes to the GFC and CG!! Two of our all time favourites! :thumbsup2

Now, patiently waiting for more .......... popcorn::

Great review of CG :thumbsup2

I loved your choices, the halibut looked wonderful

Great pictures too :goodvibes

Thank you Linda..it really was delicious

Our first ADR is at the California Grill and I've been dreaming of that ravioli for some time...looks delicious. The fact that your husband loved CG so much may help convince my DH about the whole experience....he is a little skeptical and I've been trying to find things on Disboards to help ease his mind. He's actually a big seafood fan so I'll have to show him your pics!

We love fish...don't think you can go wrong at the Disney restaurants. Hope your DH comes round.

I'm so privileged you've posted here as your first post...thank you!!! Cali is such a nice restaurant.

Hello hello so nice to see you! I've told you before that all Mickey related food has zero calories...Walt told me!:rotfl2:

Hello disjunkie, hope all is well with you! I really rate Captains grille, the desserts in particular were different and delicious.

yak & yeti is up next...

Yak & Yeti

We were so lucky as literally seconds after we arrived the heavens opened. We had a lovely table up on the first floor (second floor to those of you from the USA) right by the window overlooking the pathway.

Our waitress here was Nikki and she was great.

I had a Yak Attack and DH had a daiquiri (pina colada). They are huge and good value at $7.99.

We ordered one portion of the wok fried beans to share

And then both ordered the miso salmon which was gorgeous. What struck us again was the consistency in quality, standards and taste...

The kids shared a TS credit here.
They had the veg lo mein noodles and fries as their appetiser and shared a plain salmon and jasmine rice for their entree.

For dessert, DH ordered the wontons, which he really enjoyed and I had the sorbet which was so refreshing and tasty

And the children got a cookie to go.

Once again, Yak & Yeti scored highly on delicious food within a theme park. We’ll definitely return...it’s great value for a 1TS credit in our opinion.

Another great review. I love the green beans and the yak attack, they're both gorgeous. I've never tried the salmon there yet but it looks really good, I might give it a try next year.

Mmmhhhhhhhhhhh, Yak and Yeti! Everything looks so yummy!

We had the wok fried green beans too! Tried them for the first time, but definitely not the last! ;)

More, more please popcorn::

Thanks for continuing to read along everyone, today's journey takes us to:

Artists Point

This was our first visit to Wilderness lodge, and my, what a stunning resort! We fell in love with it, and would love to stay here one day.

So we checked in to our ADR and were shown to a table towards the back by the windows on the left hand side...I was so surprised at the size of the restaurant, it felt much larger than some of the other signatures.

DH asked our waiter, Sean, if we could charge up the camcorder while we dined as we were going to MEP and Summer Nightastic that night and the battery was almost flat. No problem!

The bread was particularly nice here:

A Mickey straw

We both had the cheese plate for our appetiser, and whilst this was nice, it wasn’t a patch on the one at Narcoossees or even Flying Fish, but I did like the medjool dates and the bees honey:

We then both ordered the cedar plank salmon, the signature dish. I loved the way that this was presented to the table, but of all the salmon dishes we had that week, this one fell a little short...not sure why, it just was not as good as the others. I did like the samphire in it, however, had never tried that before. We both commented on how we did not miss the potatoes/pasta/carbohydrate either.

For dessert DH had the berry cobbler, which he really enjoyed

And I chose the chocolate ganache which was nice but very rich...think of a chocolate Gu pod and you’ll get the idea:

The girls shared a meal (2TS credit) here, starting with the watermelon:

They then had halibut, French fries and broccoli (one plate each, even though they were sharing a credit)

And mixed berries for dessert:

Overall we enjoyed our meal here and we would definitely return but it was not in the same league as Cali, Narcoossees or Flying Fish as far as we’re concerned.

Thanks for the update - we had nearly the same meal when we went to Artist Point, just my appetizer was different and we had a very similar experience. :thumbsup2

Great photos! :goodvibes

Yum! Still trying to decide between Yak and Yeti or Flame Tree for our early dinner AK day. Yak and Yeti looks so good...and looks like the meals are big enough to share.

Hello again everyone, thanks for continuing on the journey with me

Flying fish round 2!

We’d had a really busy day today, ended up in 3 parks!, and watched Illuminations in the preferred viewing area in Morocco boat dock before slowly walking back to check in to Flying fish on the Boardwalk for a late dinner.

First thing to say is we didn’t get Bob tonight (although he did come over to chat with us for 15 mins or so at the end of the night) and the server we did get annoyed me somewhat by calling me “Lady”...I didn’t feel that this was an appropriate way to address me:confused2. Perhaps i was upset that we couldn’t have Bob again, I don’t know, but the contrast in service and attitude was immense.

Now my notes say 2 tropical freezes, but I have no idea now if i drank them both:blush: or if we had one each:spin:! Anyhow, 2 more of these beauties:

We both started with the cheese plate tonight, which was very good. Same photos again, so perhaps i did drink the 2 drinks:D

I so wanted to get the potato wrapped snapper again but decided I really ought to switch it up a little and try something different, so I had the salmon dish with wild mushrooms and Zellwood corn. Wow, this really was a beautiful dish..I love mushrooms and the blend of flavours of the salmon with the sweet taste of the corn (which was almost a mash type thick puree consistency) and the salty salmon...wow, it just took my breath away. Really this was so good.

[

I can’t remember now whether DH had the same dish as me or the snapper again, but either way it was great again.

For dessert, DH went with the sorbet again, really refreshing, and I asked for the banana napoleon to go. This was just average so far as I was concerned...I don’t think I’d bother to order it again. In fact I don't even have a picture of it to hand...banana, phyllo pastry sheets and cream, and that's about it.

The girls had the fruit skewer to start,

and DD1 got the toasted cheese sandwich with roast potatoes and French beans, whilst DD2 got the fish sticks,

I asked for a dessert puzzle "to go" for them to share, and here again the waiter really annoyed me by packing 2 of them and charging for 2 of them when I’d only ordered one...I know it’s all included on the DDP but I knew it wouldn’t get eaten and I was annoyed at the waste and the presumption on his part, presumably just to get the extra tip:nonono:. Anyhow, the photo is above, won't reproduce it here.

So to score the food, well again it was fantastic, I truly don’t know which entree I’ll have next year as the snapper and the salmon were both A+, but the service the second time was a little disappointing, perhaps because the service the first time was really top notch. Either way, a trip to WDW would no longer be complete without a visit here:wave:

Great reviews! We are trying GF Cafe for the first time in Nov and I was a little worried because I haven't heard much about it. Now I'm really looking forward to it:cool1:

TIME FOR SNACKS

This little beauty is the Magic Cookie Bar, found only at the food court at POR and Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge. It is chewy like a flapjack, with caramel and chocolate chips in it...yummy

[

Sugar ice cream cone cookie from Villains at DHS

Mammoth cashew patty from Villains. This is filled with cashews and caramel, yum.

Sugar cookie, from Villains

Wow - great updates :goodvibes

Flying Fish is on our reserve list for May but looking at these pics really makes me think we should try and fit it in

I will 100% be getting one of those Magic Cookie Bars from Wilderness Lodge :cool1:
