A shocking way to wake up

We're recently back from a wonderful week in a SSR studio, but I wanted to share a funny story about one unpleasant moment at the resort.

For anyone who has stayed in a studio, you know they don't leave a lot of room between the bed and the wall. It can't be more than a foot, if that much. My side of the bed happened to be the wall side. There's an outlet on this wall near the foot of the bed, and I always plug an extension cord in here to power the CPAP machine I use when I sleep. (There's never a spare outlet near the head of the bed.)

We're accustomed to a king sized bed at home, so the queen in a studio is always a little cramped. (I'm willing to make the compromise for the extra time at WDW, though.) I tend to hug the very edge of the bed all night, because I'm Pooh sized and there isn't a lot of room to spare. I also don't like the SSR bedspreads because they're so heavy. I usually push it aside from my side of the bed. They also make the sheets so tight that I don't like being under those, either. (They feel like they're pinning my feet down.) I sleep on top of the sheets using the spare blanket from the closet as a cover.

Ok, so that's lot's of set up to get to the punch line...

One night, I was awakened from a sound sleep, thinking someone was punching me or something. I lay there for the longest time trying to figure out what had happened. Apparently, I'd stuck my leg out from under the blanket and rested my toe on top of the extension cord. The plug wiggled out just enough to expose the prongs and Zap! I got a 110 volt 60 Hz wake up call. :scared1:

It was not a magical moment.

:: singing ::

"On this magic night
A million stars will play beside us
Cast a spell of light
Glimmering, shimmering, carouselling..."

:smokin:

I can't imagine you, from a dead sleep, trying to wrap your brain around it as your try to wake up and try to process. Thank goodness you are OK and can laugh about it. That's scary!

Yes, I'm glad you're fine!

I also hate just how tight the sheets are, I always pull them out from under the mattress!

Just for grins...

you should have woke the spouse up and said "hey check this out"... touch the spouse anywhere and then touch the old socket prongs again...

guess who gets "punched" then.... :scared1:

boy I hope my wife doesn't see this... :rolleyes1

Griz

I remember a time in public school on the bus... someone had a transformer and batteries assembled. We all held hands and when the last one made the connection to complete the loop... well it was shocking. A wonderful memory.

sorry - double post (don't press the back button while submitting!)

:rotfl2: I'm sorry to laugh, I'm sure it was zero fun at the time. We've all had those 'shocking' moments in life (former EE student here - lots of 'fun' to play with those old wax & foil capacitors in lab)

I'm sure you'll be sleeping on the nightstand side of the bed from now on.
Your experience is also a good warning for those of us who use that outlet (I usually charge my camera equipment on it) to watch out.

While I have been shocked many times but I was never awoken that way. Is this something that everyone should try? :)

I know it wasn't funny at the time, but your telling it was!:lmao: I too hate how they make the beds, and my first task upon arrival is to tear the bed apart and remake it correctly!:)

It could have been worse - nobody put your hand in a bucket of water!

Glad all is well - we need your continued talents to make our signature art!
