I don't understand. They're both computers right?
Someone give me an explanation in english please? (I ask my dad, the computer whiz on his spare time after work, and I get a long speech in mumbo jumbo in computer language)

they basically run different programs.
PCs usually run windows
and Macs dosen't
They are coded in two different computer languages which makes it more difficult for a mac to get a virus
They basically just have two different operating interfaces (programs and all that)
i have a mac, but i'm not an expert on this
hopefully that helped :)

Mac > PC

Like...PCs use Internet Explorer and Macs use Safari and Firefox. I just think Macs run a lot smoother than PCs. With my old PC...well, it just crashed from viruses and such in like...a year. I've had my beautiful mac for about 4 years, and I didn't get a single virus.
*knock on wood*

PCs can use Firefox and Safari...

And with the proper anti-virus software, PCs can be as virus-free as macs. I know mine is.

Basically Macs are more protected and are less likely to get viruses.
And PCs run on a different...thing. Like Mac uses Safari/Firefox and PC uses Internet Explorer. :teeth:

Macs are no more protected than a PC, they're just coded differently and not nearly as many people bother to create viruses that target Macs due to the lesser amount of them. If you have common sense and proper anti-virus your PC wont get a single virus.

Macs on default run Mac OS X but you can also get them to run XP/Vista like PCs but it takes a bit of work. Generally Macs look prettier but the average PC user can get a PC to look and feel like a Mac if they were to read some guides. Macs also use different software which sometimes is hard to find/inferior to PC versions.

I have no idea where anyone got the idea that Macs use Firefox/Safari...
If you use Internet Explorer on any PC you're just asking to get a virus, no wonder some of you hate PCs so much. You can download any Internet Browser you want on a PC, I personally use Opera and sometimes Firefox.

You can use Safari and Firefox for PC's.
I use Opera and IE
The new firefox is slow.

About a thousand dollars.

Omfg so true!
I bought my snazzy laptop for 900
Macbooks are around 2000

If you get a great virus protector on your PC, you'll get no viruses.
You just need to make sure you're using it right
Most virus protectors are free on download dot com

Yeah I meant like...not really programs like internet because you can even download safari for PC, I was talking more about the programs the computer runs on.
I might not be making sense, it makes sense to me, but I don't know if I'm saying it in a way that makes sense to others.
Sorry

Meh. I have a Mac, but I run Windows, Mac, and Linux on it. I'm indifferent as to which one is best, although I spend most time in Linux, I 'spose. In general, I think, Mac OS X is easier to keep running well than is Windows Vista, but I personally don't mind dealing with either.

The general difference for a casual user is the operating system. This is the basic computer program, essentially, that controls the fundamental aspects of how your computer runs (well, slightly above BIOS or EFI, but that's another issue). The appearence of Mac and Windows will be somewhat different, but they have their similarities. The main difference is that Windows programs cannot run on Mac OS X, and visa-versa. The reason for this is because of the libraries, mainly. Computer programs are coded to do many different tedious tasks over and over again. Instead of re-writing the code over and over again for those basic tasks, a programmer will call a function in a library... essentially, it opens a book and looks up how to do something, so that the programmer doesn't have to type those instructions over and over again. Windows and Mac have completely different code libraries, or instruction manuals, so to say.

However, some programs work on both Mac and Windows (and typically Linux), such as Firefox. I highly recommend running Firefox or Opera on any computer.
