Hello and welcome to first ever PTR!
:welcome:

The plans are set, the trip is paid, and I am beyond excited, but I have no one to share it with so decided to give this whole PTR a try! Hope I can find people to join in on my excitement.:hyper:

Ok first introductions:
This is my husband and I

And this is my family, us with the two boys.

Our Travel dates: Sept 4th to the 12th, 2016.
People traveling: my husband and I (no kids)

How this whole thing started; a romantic surprise:
This June, my wonderful husband shocked me with an amazing surprise for our 12th wedding anniversary. We were up at my mom's cabin in the woods with a couple of friends and their kids. Even though it was our anniversary we hadn't planned on celebrating it. I woke up at 6:00am with the kids making a racket in the next room. They had risen before everyone and were playing loudly so I rushed over into the living room to remind them that our guests were still sleeping. As I got back into bed, I noticed a small booklet laying on my pillow case. I looked at my husband and asked him what it was. He told me to look through it. As I opened it, I realized he had made me a small album of all the trips we had taken together over the years, including the ones with the children. With every picture there was a small caption with the year of travel and the wonderful memories we made in each place. As I turned to the last page, the caption read: the next trip with my favourite girl. On the opposite page, he had pasted in a photocopy of a flight itinerary. I was a little confused so my husband encouraged me to look at the dates and destination. He had book us on a flight to Orlando this September. The ticket wasfor two people, my husband and I...no kids! I looked over at him still groggy and confused and he then began to explain that he was whisking me away on a romantic getaway to my favourite destination: WDW. He had arranged everything. His parents were going to take care of the kids while we were gone. Plus he had spoken to my boss and arranged time off for me. He had booked the tickets with his reward points and it was all set. I was in total and utter chock!
:earseek:
I couldn't believe it. This was so unexpected. You need to know that my husband is an amazing father and an amazing husband, but in the romance department, he fails miserably! I don't mean that in a bad way because he is loving and affectionate with me on a daily basis and would do anything for me . But he is not the "surprise me with flowers or chocolate" type if you know what I mean.
Just to put it in perspective, we've been together 18 years and married 12 years. In all the years I've known him, we've only celebrated our anniversary once and that was for our 10th wedding anniversary. And that happened only because I warned him that if he didn't do anything special for me on that day, that he would be sleeping in the doghouse.:rotfl:

Anyway, to get back to the subject at hand, I was in total shock. As the news sunk in, I started to get all mushy and emotional and we hugged and I cried a little. He was so happy that I was so surprised, I could tell he was pleased with himself. It was adorable. :lovestruc

The only thing he didn't plan was the accommodations 'cause he told me that he knew how much I like to plan my own trips. I think he was just scared to make a mistake. I was a little worried because now we only had two months to plan a wdw trip and I knew the longer I waited, the less chances I had to get all the ADR and FP we might want. So I got cracking as soon as we returned home.

We started discussing were we wanted to stay. At first I mentioned maybe doing a few days at Disney and then renting a car to go on a beach somewhere, but hubby wanted to stick to wdw the whole time so that we could settle in and relax.

Choosing the resort was hard. We wanted to stay at the Poly but couldn't afford the $600 a day price tag. Especially with the Canadian exchange that was killing us. So we had planned to stay at POFQ instead and maybe finishing the trip at BC for 2 nights. While discussing my dilemma on the DISboards, someone
suggested I check out this travel agency that offers regular promos.
We ended up getting an amazing deal at the Polynesian for 7 nights. :cool1:
We did need to book one more night somewhere else since we could not get it in the promo, so we booked POFQ for that last night. We want to take advantage of the boat to Disney Springs. It all worked out!
:dancer:

Poly here I come!
18 days to go and counting.

Next, my planned schedule and ADR.

I know! It was a great surprise. I was really touched!
Where are you from in Canada? I'm from Montreal. It's always nice to meet another Canadian on these boards.
Thanks for joining in;)

The planning stage:
After booking our hotel, I sat down and tried to figure out which park to do on which day. With the promotion we got with the Travel agency, we received one ticket each to one of Disney's water parks. We've never been to any of the water parks before so we were both pretty excited about it. We decided on Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach appeals less to us, maybe because here in Canada, we've got our fill of snow and winter blizzards. Don't want to see more of that on vacation:crazy2:. Plus Typhoon's whole tropical feel is feels more like a tropical getaway, perfect for a second honeymoon, don't you think?

We also decided that we wanted to attend MNSSHP one evening. It will be fun to stay up until the wee hours just us two and enjoy the halloween festivities. Two big kids, that is really what we are, so its no surprise that my husband was all for this. There are 2 party nights scheduled during our stay. One on the 8th of Sept and the other on the 11th of Sept. Since we are leaving on the 12th, we decided that it would be better to attend on the 8th. I don't want to attend the party on our last night of the vacation to travel tired the next day, especially since our flight is at 8:30AM. The 8th is perfect, right in the middle of the trip. We figure we will stay until closing and do the water park the next day so that we could sleep in. The water park only opens at 10am anyway and we will slowly make our way there with no pressure.

The other thing I wanted to try was the Wild African Trek at Animal Kingdom. We never did a private tour before since we usually always travel with the kids so I thought it might be a nice anniversary gift to us. My husband's favourite park is Animal Kingdom so I did a little research and found this tour which I know he will love. It is a three hour trek with a private guide. You get to walk through the Harmabe reserve and view the animals up close. Then we get to ride in a safari vehicle and have lunch on the Boma. The tour includes complimentary photography. Sounded like a pretty good deal to me. Plus Disney was having a summer promotion where we saved $50 each by booking an afternoon trek.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/animal-kingdom/wild-africa-trek/

With that in mind, I originally planned to visit Animal Kingdom twice, on two separate days. On the first day of our trip, on the 5th, I wanted to check out the Jungle Book: Alive with Magic night show at Animal Kingdom since that day was its last showing. I also wanted to do the African Trek on our last day of the trip, on the 11th, to finish off with a bang, plus I figured that the trek would eat up most of our time in the park. However after reading so many bad reviews of The Jungle Book show, and after discussing my plans with a few people on the Disboard, I decided to do AK only on the last day of the trip. I think there is not enough stuff to do there to allocate two full days to the park. Plus the Dinosaur ride will be closed so it leaves a few shows and maybe Kali River Rapids. We are not big fans of roller coasters so Everest is out. So with that decision, I called Disney and booked The Wild Africa Trek on the 11th at 11:45. I told my husband the next day and he was really happy.

Ok now that I had the big stuff scheduled in I planned the rest of my days accordingly. This is what I ended up with:

Sun. Sept 4th: Arrival Day
We fly in early from Montreal. Arrival at MCO at 11:30AM.
We check into the Polynesian and enjoy the rest of the day at the resort. Maybe do a little swimming, eat at the resort, watch fireworks on the beach and call it a night!

Mon. Sept. 5th: MK
I decided to do Magic Kingdom on our first day, because it is the best park to start off the trip with. There is nothing like walking into the park and seeing that beautiful castle early in the morning. :cloud9:
Plus I got an ADR for dinner at Ohana's that night so it seemed logical as we have quick access on the monorail. We will do the morning and afternoon touring and head back to the resort a little before dinner. I want to make it an early night so that we won't be tired out the rest of the trip. Plus I want to check out Trader Sam's that evening.

Tue. Sept. 6th: EP
Epcot has EMH that evening which we never take advantage of with the kids. It is usually way too late for them, but since we are two adult, I thought it might be fun to tour the country pavilions after hours. My only concern is that the park might be crazy busy that day, but I figure we'll maybe go back to the resort in the afternoon for a swim or a small nap to avoid the heat and crowds.

Wed. Sept 7th: HS
I planned HS on this day. The crowd calendar predicts it will be a slower day with low crowds. I am planning on getting there early and staying throughout the day until the Star Wars Galactic fireworks.

Thurs. Sept 8th: Pool day and MNSSHP
Since we decided to do MNSSHP on this day, we will hang at at the resort and relax by the pool to not tire ourselves out too much. We plan on getting to MK by 4PM doing a couple of rides, meet Jack Skellington and watch the parade and fireworks. Then we will hang in the park until closing.

Friday Sept. 9th: Typhoon Lagoon
We want to go to TL on this day unless they announce rain. If I see the weather is bad, I will switch TL for the next day and visit MK or EP again. I also wanted to organise a romantic dinner to celebrate our anniversary and decided to reserve CG on this night. Since the park closes at 5:00Pm we ill have time to go back to our resort, shower and change and then head to CR with the monorail. Our ADR is for 7:00PM.

Sat. Sept. 10th: MK
This was my biggest debate. I was wondering which park to do twice. I am doing MK on day 1 and am going again for MNSSHP but figure I won't be doing many rides that night. So I put MK again here. It was between MK and EP but for now I am sticking to MK and will decide that morning.

Sun. Sept. 11th: AK
We are checking out at the Poly on this day and will get my luggage transferred to POFQ while we are at the park. Like I mentioned before I wanted to keep the Wild Africa Trek for my last day because I wanted to finish our trip with something special and memorable. I wanted to check out AK at night but we might just forget that idea and head to POFQ around 5:00PM so that I can check-in, and settle in. We plan on taking the boat to Disney Springs that night and enjoying the downtown area a bit.

Sun. Sept 12: We fly back home

Those are my plans for now. What do you think?

Up next my ADR and FAstpasses.

I'm originally from New Brunswick, so we were province neighbours :) I now live in Alberta though.
Oh nice. I really need to visit New Brunswick. I heard it is beautiful. I have a lot of family in Alberta. I went to visit a few years ago. People are really friendly out there. Do you like it better than New Brunswick?

Hi! Another Sept PTR!! Yay!

I'll be there the same time as you but it looks like we have the complete opposite schedules! (Except for the 11th - AK day baby!) My parents and I are also doing Typhoon Lagoon because we feel it is more tropical and we live in Minnesota and also definitely have enough exposure to snow! I didn't even think of rain happening our waterpark day. Yikes! I hope this doesn't happen because we really don't have the flexibility to change our schedule like that.

That is SO AWESOME that you got surprised with a Disney trip. I teared up a little reading your report. Amazing!! I would LOVE for my husband to do that for me but I highly highly doubt he would. I think that he would be too scared to plan a Disney trip by himself and risk getting it wrong. :rotfl2: Though I like to fantasize being surprised, I'm a huge planner and I pretty much have my next several trips outlined. There is no room for him to surprise me!

We did the Wild Africa Trek in 2014 and LOOOOVED it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I actually considered it for this next time around but we're already cramming a lot in to what is supposed to be a relaxing trip!

Welcome to my TR!

That is so cool, we might run in to each other there! You know what I look like so say hi if you see me.:thumbsup2

I was so surprised that my husband did this. It is so not in his character to do such a thing. I am an over planner too that is why he just booked the flight but did not book any Disney packages 'cause he didn't want to make a mistake. You never know, your hubby might surprise you one day! I would have never guessed it, but look it happened. Maybe give him a few hints.;)

I am so happy to hear that you like the Wild Africa Trek. Can't wait. My husband is so excited. I think it will be a memorable experience for sure!:hyper:

Oh nice. I really need to visit New Brunswick. I heard it is beautiful. I have a lot of family in Alberta. I went to visit a few years ago. People are really friendly out there. Do you like it better than New Brunswick?

NB is beautiful! The two provinces are so different from each other - I grew up in a tiny little rural community in NB, and now I live in Edmonton, so it was a bit of a change. Alberta is my home now, I've bought a house here and my boyfriend and I adopted two dogs last year, and I have a really amazing job here, but I do miss small town living sometimes.

I love your schedule! My boyfriend has already asked if we can do the Wild Africa Trek on our next trip in January, so I'll have to stalk your trip report once you're back to see how you liked it!

You guys are going right before us!

The surprise was so cute! I think my boyfriend would be afraid to surprise me with a vacation because I like @DexLabDeeDee have the next several trips outlined, and I love planning them. I've thought of surprising him, but I couldn't keep a vacation a secret :rolleyes1
We ended up getting an amazing deal at the Polynesian for 7 nights. :cool1:

I love the Poly it's so beautiful! We're staying there 1 night in December. We also ended up adding onto our trip at POFQ because we couldn't get another day at our promo rate at CBR.

e decided on Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach appeals less to us, maybe because here in Canada, we've got our fill of snow and winter blizzards. Don't want to see more of that on vacation:crazy2:.

I agree. I would pick Typhoon Lagoon over Blizzard Beach too. Ugh snow :sad2:

We also decided that we wanted to attend MNSSHP one evening

So are we! MNSSHP is so fun.

he other thing I wanted to try was the Wild African Trek at Animal Kingdom.

We're doing this in December! My boyfriend loves AK too so we're doing it for his birthday trip. I've heard it's lots of fun.

Hahaha, my husband is so bad at keeping secrets. I keep teasing him about it so after surprising me he said: "see I can keep a secret!" I am like you, love to plan it all out but I am happy he surprised me!

I love the Poly! I am in love with the grounds and with Kona Cafe for breakfast. But if I can't stay at a deluxe resort, POFQ is my second choice. You'll love it there. I love the small charm of the place and the boat to Disney Springs can't be beat.

Snow and fun in the sun, don't mix!:crazy2:

Cool! I love Halloween. MNSSHP is such a fun way to be feel like a kid again.:cool1:

The Wild Africa Trek will be really fun. That is a great birthday present!:thumbsup2

Sorry guys for the long delay. Been so busy at work these days.

I just booked Disney's Photopass. I think this is such a cool option. I love that it is cheeper for the advanced purchase. So worth it for us since its just the two of us so no one to take our picture. Now we can get shots in all the parks and on all the rides.

Ok just as a recap: In 12 days we will be here:

and going to swim in here:

and hopefully going to get this view:

(I asked to be on the 3rd floor in the Fiji building with view on the marina.)

Here are they ADR that I have for now. I got the majority of what I wanted so pleased with that.

Day 1: Arrival day
Lunch: Quick bite at Captain Cooks
Dinner: at Kona Cafe at 5:45pm
(I arrive at the resort just before lunch so planning to have a quick bite at the CC and have a nice evening at the resort.)

Day 2: MK
Breakfast: Kona Cafe at 7:45am
Lunch: BOG at 12:55pm
Dinner: Ohana' at 5:50pm
(Planing to eat early breakfast at Kona Cafe, do early park touring and stop for lunch at BOG. Stay in the park until 4-5pm and head back to shower and go have dinner at Ohana'. Want to watch fireworks on the beach that night or have a few drinks at Trader Sam's.)

Day 3: EP
Breakfast: Not planned yet but Kona Cafe or Captain Cooks
Lunch: Coral Reef at 12:30pm
Dinner: Via Napoli at 8:20pm
(Want to be at EP at Rope Drop. Planing on staying until lunchtime then heading back to resort for some R&R then back to EP for the evening. That is why I booked a late dinner. I will miss Illuminations but have seen it way too many times anyway. Park has EMH that night until 11:00pm so planing on staying until closure.)

Day 4: HS
Breakfast: Not planned yet but Kona Cafe or Captain Cooks
Lunch: 50's Prime Time Cafe at 12:40pm
Dinner: Beaches and Cream at 5:50pm
(We have early FP for this day so will be in the park at rope drop. We plan to leave the park around dinner time and take the boat to the Beach Club to enjoy dinner there and maybe see the boardwalk afterwards. We want to make it back to HS in time to see the Star Wars: Galatic Spectacular show at 8:45pm)

Day 5: Pool and MNSSHP
Breakfast: Not planned yet. We might check out breakfast at the WCC at WL
Lunch: we'll most probably grab a snack
Dinner: a quick bite at Captain Cooks or at Casey's Corner in MK
(This day we plan on lounging by the pool if the weather is nice. If not we might check out the WL which we have never seen. We want to maybe relax in our room or take a small nap before the Halloween party. At 3:30pm we plan on heading to MK dressed in our halloween costumes. They usually let guests in starting at 4:00pm. We want to do the Haunted Mansion, maybe meet Jack Skellington and then find a spot to admire the shows, parades and fireworks.)

Day 6: Typhoon Lagoon
Breakfast: Kona Cafe (no ADR yet, might just do a walk up)
Lunch: QS at Typhoon Lagoon
Dinner: California Grill at 5:50pm
(This day we plan on taking it easy. We want to go and check out Typhoon Lagoon and enjoy the day. We reserved California Grill for our special anniversary dinner this night. Hopefully we will be able to watch fireworks from there if not might just watch them back at the Poly.)

Day 7: MK
Breakfast: Not planned yet?
Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern at 12:50pm
Dinner: QS in the park (most probably Colombia Harbour House)
(We plan on sleeping in this day and heading to MK a little later. We booked all our FP for the evening so we could go with the flow and hang at the park or go back to the resort for an afternoon swim. If so we will head back to MK around 5:00PM and will check out fireworks and Electrical Parade. Park is closing at midnight so we will stay until we get tired.) (We might switch this day for Typhoon Lagoon if the weather is not nice on day 6. I book California Grill on this night too so I could have the option open but will cancel the day before if I see the weather is cooperating.)

Day 8: AK
Breakfast: Tusker House at 8:25am
Lunch: Wild Africa Trek lunch on the Boma
Dinner: Raglan Road at 8:15pm
( We are checking out of the Poly this day and will head to the park early. We have breakfast at TH and then at 11:45 the Wild Africa Trek planned. We will stay in Ak until 4-5pm and head to POFQ for check-in. We plan on then heading to Disney Springs for shopping and drinking. Raglan Road sounded good since we love Irish pubs and we've never been.)

Day 9: Departure
We have to wake up early to fly back home so most probably will munch on a muffin in the bus.

What do you guys think? Should I make any changes?

Hi guys, I am back again with some more news.

I,ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how I can surprise my husband with something special since he surprised me with the trip. I don't have a lot in the budget left to do something too over the top.

First I was thinking of hiring a photographer to take some pics of us around the resort so we could have a nice memory book made. This idea kind of dwindled after asking around for prices. It was just too expensive and in the end, my husband would not have love this since he is a shy guy and would feel awkward during the whole shoot.
Then I thought about a dessert party and checked out a few options. I was going to surprise him with the Star Wars dessert party at HS but this too was expensive, and my husband is not a big dessert fan. It would be money wasted, especially since we can still see the fireworks without booking the dessert party.
I already had the California Grill booked for our anniversary dinner and someone suggested I order an personalized anniversary cake, but like I said my husband would not even eat the cake. He is not into sweets.

Then I thought long and hard about what he would really enjoy. My husband is not an extraverted person. He is private and enjoys more intimate shows of affection. Its been a while that we really have time to be together without the kids. So I decided to do something romantic for him in the room. On our first night at the poly I am planning on decorating the room. I'll send him on an errand like going to get me coffee or food to give me enough time to set it up. I bought a small bag of pink rose petals and got some LED votives to decorate the bed with. I am planning on bringing a half size bottle of champagne in my luggage with two acrylic champagne glasses.

I also found a free printable banner on pinterest that says "I love you" and was going to make one to hang on the headboard of the bed. Check out what it looks like here:http://somethingturquoise.com/2016/02/09/free-printable-alphabet-banner-2/

I also found this cool idea on pinterest, where you fill a couple of boxes or bags with some gifts labeled with each one of the senses:

I most probably will pack everything in my suitcase and bring labeled bags then fill them once at the resort. It is never a good idea to wrap things when passing customs, in case the customs officer wants to check my bag. I was thinking of doing a small bottle of massage oil for "touch", a couple of mini bottle of his favourite liquors for "taste", an itunes gift card for "sound", a bottle of his favourite perfume for "smell", and a pair of panties for "sight".

I also planned another surprise for him. I am not big on buying lingerie and have never really gotten into it but I know my husband would surely appreciate it. So I went out this week and got some pretty nice little lingerie pieces. I decided to do something a little more fun and went for a Disney princess theme. I got a different piece for each night of of trip. I figure I'll surprise him each day with a different piece and let him guess who I am supposed to represent:
I got a pale blue babydoll with white lace and a diamond hanging between the bustier to represent Cinderella. I also got a black velvet chocker to wear with it so that it really completes the cinderella look. I also got a sheer aqua blue babydoll with a ruffle bustier to represent Ariel. I purchased a starfish hair clip to go with the outfit. I went for a black and red corset with red bows to represent Snow White . For Bell, I already own a royal blue push up bra/underwear set in satin decorated with white lace to represent Belle's blue dress and bought a red rose in keeping with the "Beauty and the Beast" theme. I also own a pink satin nighty which I will use for Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. I just need to get a gold crown from the dollar store to complete the look. And finally, I wanted to be a little naughty and do a villain outfit so I bought a black sheer body suit with built in purple bra/panty to represent Malicficent. It is sexy, cute and a little naughty. It is my favourite piece. I figure I can wear the black velvet chocker with this outfit too.
Luckily, I was able to purchase all the lingerie on sale. I got everything for $75. Yay, I love those end of season sales.

I think he will be really happy and I am so excited to see his face when I surprise him.

So been trying to figure out what to wear at the Halloween party. My husband is not big on dressing up. I want to wear a costume but don't want to look out of place, especially next to my non-costumed husband. He told me he was willing to wear a t-shirt with a Halloween theme. I found him a cool Jack Skellington t-shirt at Old Navy which he likes and was at least going to use again after the party.

For myself, I narrowed it down to two options:

Since I own a little black polk-a-dot dress that I really love, I was thinking I could do a whole Minnie outfit with it. I ordered a cool red belt with a little bow on the front on Amazon. I also got myself cute set of Minnie ears and was thinking of buying a red petticoat to put under the dress to pouf it up and do the whole 1950's Minnie look.

My polk-a-dot dress

The cute red belt purchased on amazon

Minnie ears

Red petticoat to wear under dress

My other option is a Tim Burton inspired costume to go along with my husband's t-shirt. Along with the red belt, I also purchased a cute black and white dress on Amazon. I actually bought it for everyday use but after finding the T-shirt for my husband was thinking it kind of suits the Tim Burton look. I can maybe wear it with a white wig and with the right makeup dress it up to look like a Jack Skellington inspired outfit. I also found cool halloween pantyhose with spiderwebs. It think it will complement the whole look.

This is the dress

I can pair it with this wig

and these pantyhose

So which one do you like better Minnie or Tim Burton costume?

Hmmm...one vote for Tim Burton and One vote for Minnie! I'm torn!:scratchin

I love the Minnie look but I agree - go with the Tim Burton theme! The Nightmare Before Christmas is THE BEST.
