A quick vent before I leave....

BF doesn't drive and I do, so if we're invited to his family events, his parents always just assume i'll drive him. They'll book a cab for themselves and his brothers, but just assume I'll drive.

We're going to his aunt today and I'd really like, for a change, NOT to be the only person in the house not drinking because I have to drive.

I said this to BF, and rather than saying 'ok, we'll get a cab then', he said:

'well I just won't drink either and then you won't be the only person not drinking'.

CAN YOU SAY 'TOTALLY MISSED THE P0INT????'

GGGGGRRRRRRRR, but I promise I'll be on my best behaviour and not argue with BF about it. Too late now anyway.....

Well if that's the entire exchange, then it doesn't seem like he "missed the point" at all. Why not be direct and not beat about the bush and just tell him you want to get a cab?

I've known quite a few people who live in a big city who do not drive. No need to since the transportation is fabulous and owning a car is far more expensive (parking and the like) than what it is worth.

My SIL and her parents grew up in Manhattan...none of them have ever driven either. No need to when the busses and subways are around. When they went out to family on the island (Long Island) they took cabs too. Now my BIL will drive them, but even though he has a car, he hardly ever uses it, they take public transportation all the time.

OHHHHHHHH ok, I thought she was in FLorida....I know in NYC its easier to get around without a car but I am from Long Isaldn and the public transportation around here is terrible, it would be very stressful to have to rely on cabs,buses etc here on the island.
