Just curious...

After you all "retire" (i.e. quit working at WDW), do you get to keep your name badges?
And what are the rules about wearing them while not on duty?

i'm not a CM myself but there are very strict rules about when costume is worn and when it isn't.

At MK, MGM, AK, Water parks (i believe) all costumes must be removed before a CM leaves to go home.

At least in EPCOT WS cast are allowed to wear their costume back home as many of them are international workers staying in Disney accomodation offsite.

costume is any piece of clothing/accessory provided by Disney that is worn on stage......

i'm not entirely sure than answers your question but it's a bit of info I picked up from one of my business studies lecturers who spent a year as WS CM in the UK as a research project for her masters....how lucky is she?!

You used to have to change before you left, but all the parks have changed to what they call "cast zooming" so you don't have to change, you can take your costume home (wearing it and all). You are allowed to stop at the grocery store/gas station, etc on the way home from work, but you can't have your name tag on.

CM's get new name tags quite frequently with the changes in the promotions. They are never asked to turn it in, so many CM's still have their old red name tags, or the ones with tinkerbell. They can keep the name tags, not the costumes.

Although I don't know about WDW (I think they have different rules), at DL employees have a locker and they have to leave eveything in the locker when they're off-duty. And I'm pretty sure they have to turn in their name tags when they leave. DS was a CM there, got 2 name tags because they'd spelled his name wrong on his first one. When he left to return to school, he had to turn in the one he wore, but they forgot about the one with the misspelled name. He gave that one to me, but he said not to wear it at Disney because DL CMs shouldn't have their name tags on unless their working.

i still have my name badge. and when you lost or forgot yours, they would just give you a random one to wear (with someone else's name! LOL)

I used cast zooming.....i was allowed to check out my costume at MGM and bring it home. I had about 3 of them at home and I would turn one back in for cleaning. It was much more convenient than having to change on property. they discouraged us from wearing our costumes though anywhere else- i.e. stopping at the store after work for some bread, getting gas etc. There is no way to stop it, but 10 years ago, they told us to avoid it if we could
