A question about Indian culture - from India, not native Americans.

Can you tell me, do Indians have an exceptionally strong desire to feed people as part of their culture, or do I just know a really nice Indian guy?

I am doing some work for this Indian guy who just opened a restaurant about 10 days ago. I have been in his restaurant a few times since then, and will be 2 more times before the end of the year.

Every time I go in he wants to feed me. He even brings out food on plates. Rather than offend him. I just tell him I just ate, but if he wants to box it up, I will happily take it home and eat it...

He knows I like Indian food.

So, is he just exceptionally nice, or is it part of the Indian culture?

In my experience... Indians seem to pride themselves in being good hosts. And yes, this includes stuffing you full of food. :lmao:

My best friend is Indian and her family always prepares a feast whenever I go over to her house. When we were in college, my best friend's mom would send ME care packages full of food. :rotfl: We did a road trip once and were going to spend the night with a distant relative of my friend's family. We hit bad weather and didn't arrive until 10:00 at night... to a full multi-course meal. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding several years ago and the entire 10 day affair involved tons of food and alcohol. I must have gained 10 lbs that week! :lmao:

My DH also works with many Indians. Everytime we go over to one of their houses for a get-together, we make sure not to eat beforehand, because we know we'll leave stuffed!

It's one of the many things I love about Indian culture... they sure know how to treat guests! I've learned many lessons in being a good host from my BFF's family.

I work with a lady who is orginally from India. She loves to feed me too. She knows I live alone so shes constantly bringing me food or inviting me over for dinner.

Food is a huge part of Indian culture and hospitality. Also, they will not take no for an answer unless you say it 3-4 times.

Many cultures define "hospitality" as the offering of food and drink (and if appropriate) a place to rest. The other aspects that people place on "hospitality" are mostly a modern, Western perturbation, often driven by commercial interests.
