OK here's my scenario:

I am trying to book a room for Marathon Weekend Jan 2014. The plan was to book a room at Animal Kingdom (my home resort) and then try to switch to OKW at 7 months.

My use year is February. In order to book AKL I need to borrow 39 points from 2014. So those points move into 2013.

BUT what happens if at 7 months I get a room at OKW? Then do those 39 points get returned to 2014? Or are they stuck in 2013?

I think I know the answer (:() but I just want to double check with you guys... THANKS!

I believe that once you borrow the points, they remain in the year that you borrowed them into.

The borrowed 2014 points remain in 2013. You can free up 2013 points and bank them if you are within your banking window.

If you are able to make a change at 7 months, do it over the phone. Make sure MS releases 2013 points, not the borrowed 2014 points. That way you can bank them and use them in 2014.

Borrowed points stay borrowed. You can apply them to the OKW reservation but they cannot go back to original use year. If you want to avoid borrowing, reserve AKV only for nights you can get without borrowing or just wait until 7 months to get OKW. That creates some risk but for marathon time in 2013 (the Thurs through Mon), you could easily get OKW and AKV savanna or standard view at 7 months out.
