DS (15) just got back from the SeaWorld High School age Orlando overnight camp. He flew out last Monday morning and came back yesterday afternoon. This is his third time going (He did the Orlando Junior High one two years ago and the San Diego SeaWorld Junior High one last year). // What a great experience. He had so much fun and learned a lot. The kids stay overnight the first and last night at an animal venue. This year night one was at the Dolphin underwater viewing area, and the last night was at the Wild Artic near the Bulugas and Polar Bears. The other three nights are with a roommate (also in the camp) at the nearby Marriott Residence Inn. Kids get to pick a roommate or have one assigned. Kids get to see the rescue facilities, prepare food for the animals, meet animal keepers/trainers, find out about various animal careers (meet and talk to people who do these for a living), visit the world class animal attractions, shows, and rides at SeaWorld, enjoy Aqautica and Discovery Cove, and do a few of the SeaWorld behind the scenes activities -- snorkel in the shark page, pet a baby penguin. (Too cool and too fun). It's easy for kids to make friends too, as the kids automatically have something in common (a love of marine mammals). DS will be back again next year. If you have a child who would enjoy a camp like this and have a summer camp budget that would cover this, I highly recommend it. Buying a SeaWorld season pass gives you a 20% discount on the camp, so is the way to go too. Kids come from all over, so counselors meet the kids at the SeaWorld gift shop and help them get their luggage. On the return they help them check luggage, get boarding passes, and direct them to their planes to get home. This is included as part of the camp as long as kids can fly in and depart within certain time parameters.
Just wanted to express how well run this camp is and how impressed I am with it as a parent.
