A plea from late risers

If this is you at Pop Century... PLEASE don't prop the door open with the swinging latch and let the kids run in and out at 7 AM. I don't usually get up until 9 or 10 unless the banging door wakes me up. It's worse than the turbo toilets.

This has happened with next-door neighbors at 3 different stays in Pop Century.

Ugh! That is so annoying. I'll admit that I sometimes will leave the door propped if I step out to grab ice or something, but I try to be really, really quiet about it.

And if you were in the room next to me at the Embassy Suites in Cleveland last night, sorry if I woke you with the hairdryer at 4:00am. I closed the bathroom door and only dried my hair partway, but it was freezing out and I had a 6:40am flight out of Hopkins, no way I was going to take the RAPID out to the airport with dripping wet hair in that weather.

BTW--I can not ever recommend that hotel--it's seen much better days, we won't be back to it.

I had to laugh when I read this post..I have no problem complaining about noise in hotels, this summer we were at a hotel with many other family members and our room sounded like we had a heard of elephant staying upstairs running around at midnight. After I complained it stopped, however; the next morning at breakfast I found out that it was my cousin and his children making the noise!!!

When we stayed at POR our neighbour left early and arrived back late. Wearing high heels. The kids were loud and excited which didn't bother me considering where we were. But the shoes!! ! Clomp, clomp, clomp, every day and every night! We tried to take a picture to send to 'Badshoe' but alas we were unsuccessful! I have to say I admire the lady though, she went for hours in those shoes!

Hi all,

The only thing worse than those noisy early risers are the late night partyers! Last time we were at AKL, a group came back (from the bars, would be my educated guess) about 2 a.m. and proceeded to open the doors to their balcony and PARTY. They were right next door to us. Honest, in my deep sleep, I at first thought it was coyotes, being AKL and all. Anyway, other people came out on to their balconies to "Yell" at the partyers to be quiet, they yelled back, etc... Finally I called the front desk, and I don't know what security said to them, but there was no more noise after that. The next morning (early, as I am an early person, although NOT noisy) I was tempted to use every house phone I passed and call them (I certainly had their room number) but instead I wrote a note something to the effect of "We all need to be considerate to others, this is a family resort. I chose to be considerate of you and not call you multiple times at 7 a.m. when I was up and ready to have fun while YOU try to sleep. Please pass along the courtesy by being quiet tonight for your new neighbors" and pushed it under their door.

The only night I had a problem with noise at night while staying at ASMo was the night Hurricane Jeanne hit. This neighbor has his latch on and kept opening and slamming the door. I was so upset because I thought the hurricane was going to be bad and wanted to sleep through it and this jerk was opening and closing his door all night.

What's sad is parents that were never taught manners and courtesy have CHILDREN that aren't taught the same....and so on...and so on.... and so on. Disturbing trend isn't it!

We are early risers. Like 5:30 or 6AM. And believe me, we try to be as quiet as possible. And we don't talk loud going down the halls. We usually don't talk at all till we get outside. No escaping the turbo Toilets and the showers though. BUT we keep the noise level to as little as possible! You won't hear us! Shhhhhh!

I too wish people wouldn't make so much noise late at night! What I hateat the moderates and I assume values too, that some people just set up their chairs ouside of their front doors and yack it up till the wee hours. It's like they're sitting IN your room too! That's a huge reason I like the deluxes and an even bigger reason why we're going to the SoG rather than the value resorts! I hear it's QUIET there most of the time. Makes sense if you consider the clientel. (Disclaimer: I know it's not ALWAYS that way...just a general comment. Most miliary families I know ...mine being a HUGE one, all have children and adults with respect and manners).

Sigh...sounds like more of the degradation of society. Children not learning respect and parents too busy or clueless to teach it!
:(

We stayed in a town house villa at the beach once where the next door neighbors decided to have a party on their deck the first night they came. It was loud and late! My children are very early risers and very boisterous. I actually didn't tell them to be quiet or to stop doing handstands against that common wall the next morning.

After that, the neighbors were quiet at night, and I kept my children quiet as church mice in the mornings.

It's funny, even in the middle of the afternoon, I'm telling Brittany not to run down the halls and be quiet. Someone may be napping.

I guess some folks think they are the only ones on vacation. :sad2:

people any where can be rude - it doesn't matter what class - rich kids can be worst than poor ones....so don't get me started on that route.

Military - the Cont now needs a complete overhaul in the north wing.....

you are going to get rude people where every you go....

those of you with big houses probably don't realize how easily noise travels.

I have more trouble with partying drunk adults than anyone else.

a drunk doesn't know when he is being rude.....no excuse but you would think adult would have more pride.

I am not sure about it being the parents fault - some of these people had good parents - there so called friends were the main problem.

This just made me LOL so much!

We recently stayed at POFQ. My partner is an early riser, gets up on vacation at about 7:30-8am. I, on the other hand, drag myself through the paces starting at 8:30-9am. That said, he usually always steps out for air, steps out to get coffee, steps out to pick up breakfast, steps out for a smoke... all while I try to sleep in a bit.

He kept stepping out, and letting the door thud into the latch time and again that I stepped out myself, glared at him while he was enjoying the early morning air and piping hot coffee, lifted the latch... and quietly closed the door after announcing, "You are not allowed back in until I officialy wake up."

Of course, that culminated with snickering at the door, followed by light tapping, and quiet begging of "C'mon... lemme in..."

Every morning I had to go through that. 14 years and I haven't killed him yet.

I too have encountered the BAM bam bam of the metal latch when I was at Pop Century -- however, when I spoke with our neighbor, they were unaware that other rooms could hear the noise. Once they knew, never heard a peep from the latch.

So perhaps it isn't rude people, just clueless people?

My fav is the adults... they are worse than the children. Granted, I have come back to my room (not necessarally at Disney) before extremely drunk. But I am very quiet when I am drunk, quieter than usual to a point where it will scare my husband. But those loud drunks are hard to deal with because they are so impared, it doesn't matter what you tell them.

The other is the loud adults engaging in adult activities. I had to explain to my niece (who was 7 at the time) why there was lots of cursing and yelling. Initially, she wanted me to go over and make them make up... um, that's what they were doing. In your own home, scream... but in a hotel, you should at least try to be a little quieter.

Our last trip, last December we were staying at the Contemporary with adjoining rooms with my cousin and her family. Her two kids (DD 3 at the time, DS 6) are very hyper kids. The night they got in, they had flown from Rome, to London, to Chicago to Orlando and they were all so tired they were wide awake. The kids had to immediately take a bath ( they only have showers in their house in Italy so the only time they get to play in the tub is when they're home in the states visiting) and you can imagine how the giggles reverberate in the bathroom in the middle of the night!

It was after midnight, closing in on 1 and we could hear them running and giggling next door. We're half asleep and I hear my aunt mumble, "you know those obnoxious kids we always complain about? This time they're family"

They called to let us know they were in (like we couldn't tell!!) because we'd left a message for them to do so at the front desk when they checked in, so we went over and the kids were SO wound up. Skylar was trying to talk over everbody, Jaylen was chasing her so she'd let out these screams. I felt so bad for the people on the OTHER side of their room! And under their room. . . and in the other wing of the resort. . . LOL!

RICK!! I was just thinking about you the other day!! I hadn't seen you and was going to do a search for you!

As for the topic..I have learned to buy earplugs after my trip in February...the person above us must have slammed the bathroom door a gazillion times at 2-4 am! Drove me batty!

I'm always amazed at how inconsiderate people are while staying at motels/hotels. We were at the Jersey shore this summer and a couple with no kids next to us came in at 11pm and slammed their door about 3 times, while yelling back and forth to each other. The next morning they had a Do Not Disturb sign on their door at 8am. Can you guess how quiet I was??

Our last trip to WDW we stayed at POFQ. After the 2nd night a family moved in next door. They had 2 kids. The kids would kick the wall adjacent to our room every night (or maybe they were jumping on the bed) until about 12:30 p.m. It drove us crazy until we decided that it gave us the perfect excuse to hit the late entry at MK!

ROFL - I thought that it was just me who got THOSE PEOPLE as my neighbours.

We have had a few 'situations' over the years, but I have to say that Disney have always been great about moving us, if we have requested it.

I found AKL to be the noisiest WDW resort that I have stayed at - it was double whammy of corridor and balcony!

This time we have opted for a FW cabin in search of some peace.

;)
